SURRENDER OR DIE IN OBSCURITY.

Personally, I played Tactics Ogre before FFT, so I always liked TO more. I always disliked how the story goes from a story revolving around socio-economics and class structure and political low fantasy (my preference) to silly shit on demons and the occult. Story gets stupid.

But I still heart it.

Over the past three or so years before the release of FF13, I replayed every mainline FF. I tried to replay X-2 but couldn't finish it for some reason despite :heart :heart :heart ing it. I got FFT for psp, War of the Lions, and while the translation is a step above the original's, the lag completely ruined the game for me. What an absolutely pathetic port.

In any case, because it takes me so much effort to get into games today and I'm pumped for TO, I started a new game of FFT, emulated on epsxe, with the Final Fantasy Hacktics WotL translation. I hadn't played the psx version in some time but now I remember every time I do, something comes over me and I obsess about it. About the same thing happens with TO too. What is weird is that I'm honestly not a big srpg guy, but these two games really tickle my dickle.

First off: RAMZA

This cute mother fucker kills like a billion people over the course of the game. He ROCKS and is an angel of death.

2. The job system, while completely broken off its rocker -- and what FF game isn't broken as fuck? -- is awesome as hell.

Making your perfect character through a subset of abilities is genius. Ninja monk? Why the fuck not? A priest that can jump? SURE! Nothing can stop you in Final Fantasy Tactics.

3. The story and cast is steeped in drama and tragedy. FFT pussyfoots around serious issues unlike TO, but it's still nothing to scoff at. I'd like to see another game that evokes tragedy as well as these two games. Every single character has some bad shit happen to them. If something good happens, 4 or 5 bad things will happen just a few minutes, if not a few battles, later. Everyone is fucked in FFT, even those who "win" and that's what makes it so depressing and deliciously awesome.

btw the FF Hacktics patch owns. Now you too can enjoy the wonders of a great translation and a coherent plot without the game giving you a finger every time you cast a spell or use a skill.

Meh, it's fun but only memorable to me for

> Velious fight

> Getting TG Cid, etc. And basically winning the game from that point on

Since I'm in a rush to beat this before TO, I'm putting all my cards on the table.

NINJA MONK PARTY.

Got through Dorter Trade City now known as Merchant City of Dorter with ease since I pre-planned and got my chemist up to Black Mage before the battle. Massacred them niccas. I fired every single character except Delita and Argath and now I've got me a few squires working on getting jp till we all get move +1, jp bonus, counter, Yell (forgot what the hell it's called in this translation but the skill names are certainly better than the psp version's which confused me), and auto potion.

CUE THE VIOLINS AND TROMBONES.

Didn't care about astrological birth signs this time, just went with whatever. Bad mistake for someone speed running, I should have made Ramza a capricorn and made the party members compliment that but whatever. It's in the past.

The One Piece party! :hyper

Paige's low brave makes me want to get rid of her, for real. I only kept her because dammit, she's such a high level and she has a good faith stat. I might as well do the same for Nami too. :(

:yuck

great soundtrack, though

What is wrong with you

But yes, its soundtrack is great.

Frag and Drinky also masturbate to the likes of boredom aka Europa Universalis.

I'll take this game over any rts any day. Go play some crappy Euro game and leave me alone!

I couldn't figure out how to change jobs until after I hooked up with Gafgarion when I first played this. I'm pretty confident you could beat the game with nothing but squires and chemists

Mediocre is probably a bit harsh

Chemist + Gun = win

there's just so many "basic" jobs you can beat the game with its a waste of time to bother making LEET NINJA MONKS

I usually make Ramza a Monk in the 1/2 way point.

It's the only FF I've ever played, and I enjoyed it so much that I don't even want to try the others. I know SRPG is not RPG, and this is an SRPG-lite according to all the hardcore, OCD-riddled Ogrezealots. But I enjoyed it.

I never finished got past the first major battle after that big boat ride. I heard buffing your party through random encounters allows you to breeze through the static-designed story fights, but I ended up with an underpowered party at a point where there was only one spot to catch a random. I tried that fight about a dozen times, and then I think a guy I'd just given all the good equipment to decided to bail from my party. I set it aside and didn't go back.  :'(

The Algus fight near the end of Chapter 1 can be a sticky spot if you are kinda unprepared.

It really isn't. It's Tactics Ogre-lite in many ways, but not an srpg-lite in the least. Even then, it makes some gameplay enhancements upon the TO formula to the point where the game is its own beast. They play entirely different.

Sounds like Algus. The trick to the Algus fight is taking out the mages.

Also, you can beat the game without grinding. It's a matter of preparation, mostly, and replaying the game makes it much easier because you're prepared for every road block.

dude my matsuno boner is soooooooooooooo hard right now! :-[

.......

all right, all right serious reply... i finished the game back in ye olde psx days and i liked it but here's the thing,i don't remember a single thing about the game, there was this very over-powered character,a few battles that were a pain in the ass (like that one were ramza starts inside the castle together with the big bad and the rest of the party stay outside) some people turned into monster thanks to magic zodiac balls and there was a stab happy character i think?

seriously i got nothing,i tried replaying it recently and it feels like the slowest drag ever... and you control only a team of 5,i'm not sure how people can play tactics ogre without falling in deep coma considering you control a team of 10!

it takes 1:30 before one of your unit happens to pull off a single attack, seriously in that time with the animation off,i already played 5 turns of disgaea!

and near the end you have to mop any remain because "smart ai" really means "have fun wasting time chasing already dead enemy " :duh

Himu

Of course it takes over a minute to do an attack. There's so much space between your units and the enemy units that it's going to take a while. I guess I don't mind FFT's style since my first srpg was TO anyways. I happen to like FFT's slow style.

Also, that chemist is an excellent way to get jp. You can master a few jobs with ease because he refuses to die.

EB plays some FFT:

Intro

: His is a heroism of great renown - a story familiar to all who dwell within our
land.
: Ah, but what the eye sees is oftentimes a mere fragment of the truth.

: There is no official record of the role he played on history's stage.

: The Church maintains he was a heretic, an inciter of unrest and disturber of the peace. Which accounts is to be believed? Join me in my search to uncover the answer.

Orbonne Monastery

: I'll not be much longer, Agrias.
: Your escort has already arrived, Majesty.
: Please, heed the good lady's words, Highness. You
must hurry.

: Gaffgarion, you forget yourself, ser! You are in the presence of the
princess!

: A guard captain in these rain-sodden hinterlands ought not expect chivalry. We are in the employ of the Order, not of it. Our pay des not cover trite courtesies to the likes of you.
: Guard your tongue!
: Enough. Let us be on our way.

A wounded knight stumbles into the chapel.

: Right then, to battle!

Outside Agrias confronts our would be victims.

: Does he mean to start a war?

Gaffgarion and Ramza bust out of the chapel.

: A head-on assault. These swords of Goltanna...lackwits one and all.
: In that case, we should be able to handle this without you, Gaffgarion.
: Mayhap you could, but there's no money to be made in that! Ladd! Ramza! With me!

Most if not all battles are of the defeat all enemies or kill the leader variety in FFT. There's no much diversity in battle victory conditions.

 :lol :o :o :o :lol

This battle sucks. I hate guest ai fights.

In this battle you square off against a sole enemy knight, three archers, and a chemist. Not tooooo bad.

See?

One of the archers is a goner already.

Go easy, Gaffy.

An extremely easy battles, especially when your entire party consists of guests.

Why are princesses always trouble?

: I'll not take orders from you!
: You've quite a mouth on you, Princess.

He punches her in the stomach, knocking her out and lifts her over his shoulders before making a run for it on a chocobo.

Gosh, Ramza looks like Cloud in chapter 2 armor.

Restarted. Got Ramza to level 5 squire, made him capricorn. Got new units: two males, two females. Cancer, Taurus, Scorpio. They all compliment each other. Had them all master chemist, get jp+. Working on black mage, white mage, knight and archer (barely gonna pool points into this, it's only temporary). Managed to get enough jp for magick counter and regenerate through jp+. Gonna get Ramza to level 2 knight and then turn him into a monk and I should be good for the rest of chapter 1.

My army:

2 hours in, gonna get my mages some rods and staves and head on to the swamp and then Dorter.

If I push myself I can beat chapter 1 tomorrow.
