America is a dying empire, our children will be fat and learning chinese in 20 years, because people are so pc everyone will have to know spanish because hispanics have taken over the country and are a majority, as the country gets more hispanic and colored poverty rates will rise and likely lead to civil unrest because no one really wants to fix this problem and ignores it, and as the fossil fuel peak reaches we'll see a bigger and bigger decline without the necessary restructuring of our cities and ways of living to prepare ourselves for it.

I just filed my taxes. Apparently I make too much money to deduct student loan interest on my taxes.

So no aid whatsoever with student costs when I went to school so I had to take on brutally high amounts of debt ($87,000) and now I can't deduct any of the interest from my taxes as I am paying them.

Yeah I'm raging.

I don't know how it is in other countries but in America, most people demand that everything fall into their laps. Hard work is considered gay, learning is for nerds and fegs, and not getting piss drunk and driving makes you a loser. Where most people look like you admitted that you partake in kid-diddlin' if you opt not to get the biggest, nicest house and car (that you can't afford).

Yet I probably won't leave either. It has a lot of good things going for it; people will bitch and write snarky comments but they'll never leave. I guess half assed passive aggressiveness is an American trait too.

I love it here. There are things I hate about the people and government but I love a lot of the culture and very american things (muscle cars, guns, big budget movies, tv shows, etc) to really ever want to leave. I think it has some really big issues, but considering the scope and circumstances of it, I can see and even to a point understand why. I'll take the good with the bad.

That being said my family and friends are here so its unlikely I will ever leave permanently at least.

personally, my own self-inflicted problems overwhelm any problems I might have w/ my environment, to the extent the latter don't even register. I'm sure I could be transported to any other (rich) country and, modulo language differences etc., barely even notice

Being a dual-citizen and having lived in both countries, I sometimes feel alot more comfortable in Canada and probably think the system is working better, but won't deny I get invigorate by the US which drives me to higher-highs and lower-lows.

For what its worth California is a pretty cool place to live culturally. If they could somehow secede I would easily join that nation. NCR for life!

NY doesn't interest me in living there for some reason despite being relatively liberal. I think its because anecdotally a lot of New Yorkers I've met have been assholes.

It's ok, I guess. It's hard to say as someone born and raised here. For my parents, it is probably a big deal and opened a lot of opportunities for them that in turn gave me a better life.

I don't really have a good reference for other countries. I've had extended stays in Paris, various places in Italy, various places in Germany, and those were all great (oddly, I liked Germany the most). My one time to Canada was a disaster. It took two hours to order some chicken tenders. I kept telling these people, in the lord's tongue, that I wanted Le Chicken Tenders, and it was Le number 2 on the menu. To say I was cultured shocked by a country where they'd let people starve is an understatement, and I've been to Africa. The only good thing about my trip to Canada was that I left with a copy of Heavy Gear II on PC.

Yep. Suburban America is shittastic. It's everything I hate about America. Wasteful, boring, repetitive and ultimately unnecessary. How someone could enjoy living in it is beyond me. Their idea of a nice neighborhood is a Chili's and Burger King in the same plaza. Yech.
