Added more text to OP. Wedbush threw out 750K as the number for COD but curiously 441K for Dead Space 2. Makes me wonder if those are console only numbers and, if so, if Dead Space 2 sold just 11K on PC. Presumably one or two other people, um, rented it... digitally... for free... and never returned it.

The PS 3 may or may not catch the 360 worldwide. My guess is it probably will but I highly doubt it will in the United States and the lead has only been increasing within the last year or so. The 360 has established itself right now as the default hd system of choice in America and dominates with the leading genre preference for the hardcore demo of shooters.

The PS3 is over that catastraophic failure portion of its lifetime but this is clearly not how this gen was supposed to go for Sony. 3rd in America. Battling 360 for ww numbers. And way behind the Wii. It's been a big fall from them. Which drives the Methodis types of the world to stupid posting.

On a preference level the Ps3 is a perfectly fine system. The reality is I'm perfectly fine with my 360 and PC so I have no desire or need for a PS3 but certainly I could see why somebody else would feel differently if they particuarily liked certain Sony franchises.

I don't know. There is this perception that MS will drop the 360 before Sony and let it languish but I'm not sure that is the case. I mean I think they will launch their next gen system before Sony but MS has good reason to want this gen to go on for as long as possible.

Agreed. The 360 is THE console right now, and with HDTV ownership increasing there's no hurry to jump into another expensive tech race.

If the PS3 winds up surpassing the 360 sales wise it'll be because of Europe/Japan, where it has a popularity lead. But those markets aren't bigger than the US obviously so yea..

In the PlayStation ecosystem, the PS3 to Sony is nothing more than an Exxon-Valdez or BP sized spill: embarrassing, expensive, and can't be done away with soon enough.

I'd also say that given that the 360 system is the only one that is seeing positive YOY while being in 1st place, it is most definitely getting a second wind. The PS3 will never reach the 360 in the US and is sketchy at best worldwide. With my insider trading knowledge, I have my doubts that Killzone 3 and Uncharted 3 will light up the sales charts the way they need to in order to kickstart a similar second wind for the PS3.

KZ3 and U3 will sell better than their predecessors because there are more PS3s out there, but ultimately they won't change anything. Black Ops is the premier shooter right now, and most people I talk to haven't been blown away by the KZ3 beta

Sony entered the next gen banking on all their old franchises mimicking the success they had on the PS2 and it just hasn't happened. God of War 3, MGS4, and especially GT5 did nothing to give the PS3 the momentum it needed to surpass the 360, whereas Halo exploded 360 sales.

It's hard to argue the PS3 isn't a disaster for Sony. They banked on it being a trojan horse for living rooms. And while blu ray is a success it has little to do with the PS3

Sequels won't help anything,they already have their audience so they will sell about the same or underperform,talking about ltd
They might perform better in opening NPD month because more of the same people will decide to buy it new,released in different month,more days tracked,etc
Market is getting saturated with games,lots of cheap used games,huge backlogs,etc

100% sure that MS won't make the first step(but will follow),360 launched at $300-$400 and had just $100 price drop
In January Kinect bundles were about 3/5 of total 360 sales.Their price is $300-$400...
Combine that with low 360 inventory and you will see that price drop is nowhere near,maybe in November

Then they will have big "core" exclusive hits,Gears,some new Halo,Forza,probably something else too+plus tons of exclusive Kinect stuff(Japanese +Western "core" Kinect games)+Kinect mainstream games+big third party games that sell much better on xbawks(COD,Skyrim,Saints Row 3,etc),those games will probably get some timed exclusive content

xbawks will be a very tough opponent this fall,even without a price drop
we all know how casual family friendly things perform during the holidays and Kinect is like a definition of casual family friendly

One other thing,I was listening to Giant Bombcast,Jeff and Ryan were at DICE and developers said to them that Kinect can track fingers now

And what sir is going to get it there? Best case scenario is that microsoft kills their console again when moving to the next one. Sony has released all their big guns with maybe the exception of twisted metal (Lulz), so nothing outside of a pricedrop is going to matter. Microsoft can do that too. Speaking of which Nintendo needs to get on that. Wii not being at most 150 by this point is baffling. Maybe they need to go as low as 99 in japan.

Nintendo reports show that they can be hit pretty hard with exchange rates,that tells that Wii is not exactly highly profitable anymore(in the West at least).And that is kinda surprising,Sony is making lots of money with cheap PS2.

Wii slim?they can always reduce internal components but they need to invest money.They could be doing something silently but it's nothing big for sure,tech sites would talk about it...in units that are out now

They mishandled the Move launch, for sure. They've got a decent piece of hardware, very accurate, and kept harping the whole time about it being more for core players. Then they launch it with a Wii Sports knockoff in the box. Now, it's a good game, but at first glance that's exactly what it is - a knockoff. What should have been in the box is a hybrid disc - say, three of the sports from Sports Champions, a short shooter similar to Modern Combat, and a puzzle/drawing game of some sort. Show the variety, something for everyone. All the retail launch games were Wii derivative. Everything interesting was something you had to seek out and download, and none of that had any promotion. And they should have taken the hit and included a navigation controller in the box, but instead decided that no matter what customers bought they were still going to have to buy something extra for a complete experience. They're catching up to their initial "core" promise with KZ3, Socom 4, etc, but it was certainly a sloppy launch. Even their Move web page is half-assed and lacking in real information.

The revisionist history from the Sony camp is hilarious. Shane Bettenhausen is always talking about how the PS3 is doing great, according to Sony's 10 year plan. But who, including Sony, would have thought that in 2011, it would still be 3rd overall and a distant 3rd in the US?

Worldwide numbers are overrated anyway. Because of how demographic sales work in videogames, it's always better to secure a strong 1st or 2nd in a major market than to be moderately strong in all regions. It's why the Genesis and Xbox did so well compared to something like the Gamecube which had more popularity worldwide.

There was one eastern europe forum that i used to read a lot for laughing purposes,one dude there said something like "my best part of the day is when I come home from work and read what has been written here,lol"

Some(lots) people there were like dead serious that MS will announce new console in 2007 because PS3 will crush them in like a month and they were not just some teens arguing,something like 20-40+ people.And they wrote long readable posts like they are some Sony PR,conspiracy theories,Japan supremacy,etc you could read anything there...fun times
They backpedaled a lot now,but Western anti-PS3 conspiracy is still to blame
10 year plan is dropped now though and mobile phones will never have PSP2 graphics,3DS is a toy

I thought that it would literally be impossible to make a slim version of the Wii, people have opened it up and there's really not much they can do with it, maybe remove the Gamecube support but it would be such a minor reduction that it probably wouldn't be worth the loss (at least with the DSi you got new features to make up for the GBA slot). Nintendo isn't known for console re-releases anyway, other than a new color.

Fitness games aren't usually done in company. Its more like they are cheap alternatives to gym memberships/home equipment. I like wii fit plus myself because the few spurts of weeks I've gone to the gym were super boring.
