Definitely different in North America, where kids who had an Amiga or C64 were seen as distinguished effete fellows and beaten daily for their lunch money.

When I was in the UK there was no talk of the amiga/etc. either. It was still mostly nes kids. Then again at that time the company our mother kept was mostly american military folk.
