Aww, you're going to be disappointed.

I just chose it for the amusing juxtaposition of an "anti-police brutality" day and the lofty rhetoric used for it, with the picture and caption the faithful activist chose to highlight for the event:

"comrade throwing a firecracker at cops at yesterday's demo"

Clearly, this is the image of a peaceful, freedom-loving activist who only desires a just, fair, and accountable society.  :spin

I was listening to a This American Life that went into the quota system, actually.  It seems to only affect metropolitan areas but it was really icky to hear about the things they would cite citizens for.  The cop who got the information out was thrown into a mental institution at one point cus the head people in his precinct got wind of him trying to contact higher ups.

That's every day around these parts. Run from the police around here, and you'll end up with injuries that should put you in the hospital not the drunk tank. They're also a bunch of thieves.

I should have clarified. "Run from the police" also equals didn't consent to search.

And a couple semi-local sheriff's deputies made the mistake of trying to steal a roll of money off of a Hell's Angel they had arrested for possession. Big mistake, there were 100+ plus of them there the next day. They not only got the money back, they also got the pinky fingers of the two deputies in question. The two men are still police officers, sans pinkies.

This happened? I had no idea.

http://www.torontosun.com/news/canada/2011/03/15/17633206.html

Quote
At the height of the event in Montreal, gases and projectiles mixed with the over 300 people gathered to commemorate the 14th anniversary of the International Day Against Police Brutality.

Members of the black block, an infamous anarchist organization, stood at the centre of the event, with gas masks and sticks. They threw rocks and anything else they found on the ground.

At least one Montreal cop suffered an eye injury after having a rock hurled at him. Protesters also knocked out a GAP storefront window

Meanwhile, in Toronto, anarchists whined about being made to look like idiots after they allowed undercover officers to infiltrate deep within their groups:

http://www.citytv.com/toronto/citynews/news/local/article/119050--g20-activists-say-they-feel-betrayed-by-orwellian-secret-police

Quote
Some G20 activists held a press conference Tuesday claiming they were “betrayed” by undercover police officers as part of an “Orwellian” infiltration in the lead-up to the international summit last June.

The activists, led by Centre for Police Accountability founder Davin Charney, outlined instances in which undercover cops posed as protest organizers. One young woman from Guelph expressed anger over the fact she was unknowingly roommates with an officer pretending to be an activist.

Those meanie cops!  So sneaky!  Why would they even need to infiltrate these peaceful, family-friendly liberty-activists, anyway?

Police-brutality protest to feature man who was accused in Glebe firebombing

A man who was at one time facing charges in relation to the Glebe RBC Bank firebombing last summer was scheduled to speak Tuesday night at an Ottawa rally to support the International Day Against Police Brutality.

...

People scheduled to speak at the event were Andrew Nellis of the Ottawa Panhandlers Union, Frederique Chabot from Prostitutes of Ottawa/Gatineau Work, Educate and Resist (POWER) and Mathew Morgan-Brown, whose arson charges were stayed in November after a Crown prosecutor told a judge there was insufficient evidence to successfully prosecute him. (Roger Clement plead guilty in the case and was sentenced to four years in prison.)

Ironically, my jiu-jitsu instructor in college was an HA.  Didn't realize he was a full member until joining the police and learning what the tattoos meant, etc.  And I considered him a friend, though not a close one.  Never saw him do anything illegal other than smoke weed.   But damn did he hate police.

Since the HA is a criminal organization, most are assholes by default tho.

Couldn't go back there after joining the Force though.  Only seen him once since then, a four second handshake at Toronto Airport.  Thank God he was late for his flight, would have made for one hell of an awkward conversation. :lol

Yeah, that's a 22-year old Boogie posing for a photo at a jiu-jitsu tournament with my HA instructor, wearing a Death's Head toque and with his Death's Head forearm tattoo prominently visible.  :-\    :lol

Anyone ever shot by the police, anywhere, is always "widely respected in the community", "a respected member of the community", or, at worst was "turning his life around."

No, but since they are gang members who engage in widespread hard drug-smuggling, extortion, and murder, they tend to be assholes.

also, fines != criminal record.

So, in summary:

Biker gang members are mostly assholes, except for the HAs in the east end of Kentucky, because they only sell guns illegally, and throw great parties.

Gotchya.

HA has a reputation for doing illegal things, but I don't think every HA member is a criminal.

The 1999 Canadian Organized Crime report said that there were 214 full-fledged HA members and 35 prospects in Canada.  A total of 249.  (this was before their big expansion where they pushed rival gangs to the margins).

205 of them had criminal records.

So, you're right.  Not every HA member is a criminal.  Just 82 percent of them.

happens quite a bit, criminals are crafty:
Chavis Carter, a 21-year-old African-American man who was found dead from a gunshot while handcuffed in the back of a police patrol car on July 29, 2012, was ruled a suicide by the Arkansas State Crime Lab.

...

Minutes later, the officers discovered that Chavis Carter was shot in the head. The officers found a semi-automatic, .380-caliber Cobra pistol near the body.[1] The Jonesboro Police Department believe that he had hidden the gun on his person that the officers did not detect through the two searches and used it on himself

The officers found a semi-automatic, .380-caliber Cobra pistol near the body.[1] The Jonesboro Police Department believe that he had hidden the gun on his person that the officers did not detect through the two searches and used it on himself

And this one:
Quote
Victor White III died in a Louisiana hospital, the victim of a gunshot that police said White fired after being frisked twice, handcuffed and placed in the back of a New Iberia police cruiser.
The father of a 22-year-old Louisiana man who authorities claim fatally shot himself while handcuffed in a patrol car is angry that the district attorney’s office has declined to pursue criminal charges.

“It’s disappointing, disheartening, baffling and disgusting all at the same time,” Victor White Sr. told The Huffington Post.

Prosecutors had been investigating whether charges were appropriate in Victor White III’s shooting death, but found no “evidence to suggest a violation of a criminal statute,” First Assistant District Attorney Robert Vines told HuffPost on Monday.

The death has been ruled a suicide.

...

“White was taken into custody, handcuffed behind his back and transported to the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office for processing.”

Upon arrival at the sheriff’s office, White became uncooperative and refused to exit the patrol vehicle, according to the release. “As the deputy requested assistance from other deputies, White produced a handgun and fired one round, striking himself in the back,” it continues.
