The Anti Motion Controller thread
« on: April 02, 2011, 10:11:39 AM »
Has the motion controller craze convinced you that games are more fun playing while flapping your arms? I thought so. Neither the wiimote, move or Kinect have enhanced the gaming experience for me. Yes, sure the small mini games with family or casual friends are more fun to play now, but the epic game experience does not get any better at all. Playing a really good RPG for example, has no benefit from the motion crap. I want my good old controller in my hand while sitting on a comfy couch instead of moving your arms the whole fucking time. No wonder games these days get stale because developers has focused on the wrong thing this generation; Improving the actual gameplay in the games.

It's SantaC.

He continually makes dumb threads to prove he's hardcore or something like this is GAF.

This is just this month's version of his last dumb thread on the subject where he got owned left and right.

There wasn't even a Kinect thread on the front page when you made this thread. There was no thread dedicated to a Kinect game on the front page either outside of Forza which is only there because somebody put it in the thread title. The only person who posts in the only kinect thread on the board is maxy who is a clear xbot and trolling sony people. Nobody here cares or talks about motion control outside of maybe Child of Eden.  Because the ultimate sign of not caring about motion control is not posting about it. The subject mainly gets brought up by you and your "hardcore" threads.

Oh also remember this post?

so what if kinect bombs? Who is stupid then.

Wanna answer that one now?

motion controls aren't bad. they can actually be pretty fun and enhance the game (Resident Evil 4 wii) and make really fun experiences.

like anything it depends on the implementation.

hey hey

My only interest in Kinect is purely from tech side, trolling low iq sfags is a side affect. But I will say this,if you want some new quirky stuff this gen you will get it only on Kinect and 3DS.
E3 will prove that.

Motion controls will not go away, the only thing that people can do is to accept them.Just like me and many others accepted mouse controls like 20-30 years ago.
Motion controls will heavily influence future games...no going back now,for better or worse

I also think that lots of hardcore people like motion controls but they are too ashamed to say that.

Kinect is much more than some gaming stuff, check Kinect hacks.

I just feel that there aren't enough developers who are using the full capabilities of Kinect/Move/Wii. We keep seeing ports of controller games to the motion format and that's not really what these technologies are made for.

hey hey

I meant it as a compliment.  :-*

My main point though is that nobody cares about motion controls on here for the most part period. And it's not like I even have something especially against them. They just aren't relevant to the taste of most people on this board and its reflected in the amount of talk that goes on about them whether its Wii, Kinect, or move. The only time I even reference Kinect is to point out how utterly wrong most hardcore types were on how it would do sales wise (myself included). Which just goes to show we are the last people able to speak to that subject.

It's like making a I hate facebook gaming thread. Who cares. Nobody ever talks about it on here anyway. It's just something hardcore types feel they have to worry about to show how hip they are. To spend time whining about things they never would play or interest them in the first place is so odd.

yea! the only big motion game i can think off,it's zelda and it's going to work using that crappy little add on that goes out of calibration every 5 seconds

and that's not mentioning zelda is a boring game and that they are stealing puzzles from zack & wiki :(

I reserve judgment on Kinect until I'm not poor and am actually able to afford one.

Wii motion controlling is a hit or miss. Some games I can't imagine not playing with waggle (Trauma Team!) and other games I desperately wish I could just use a normal modern controller. The Classic Controller is lame.

Move is just  :-\  :-\ :-\

Exactly. We need a developer to sit down and figure out what kind of motion and action works best with these things and use that to its full potential within the game design.

If you remember, the iPhone had a similar problem when games started coming out for it. Originally it was filled with hackneyed ports until devs finally realized how to best utilize the iPhone's method of control and we started seeing games of a much higher quality pop up. I only hope the same resurgence will befall the motion controllers.

To be quite honest, I actually hope Kinect/Move/Wii (well...maybe not Wii, but that's more my hatred for Nintendo) stick around for as long as possible. That way, hopefully, a developer out there can take the time to craft a truly original experience with design in service to a motion control method.

For what its worth I visited some cousins of mine recently and they had a Wii and a Kinect. And I was a bit surprised because these people are kind of cheap to be kind.

But then it clicked to me. These are the "safe" options for their young kids. They wouldn't feel comfortable probably buying a 360 or a PS3 for their kids to buy them stuff like GTA or Gears or God of War or other very violent videogames. But they do feel comfortable buying them cutsey-kid oriented stuff that goes with this motion control stuff. All that's really happened is the disappearance of all those kid friendly games that use to be represented by sonic, or licensed nick games, or those mascot platformers has been replaced by motion control stuff.

Ha for real? Because like three people post some stupid shit every now and then?

come to fuck on , you set of cumslurping n00bs.

Motion control is FAR from the biggest issue we have - the problem is a massive lack of ANY fucking progress as people spend lots of jizz-$ on absolute fucking TRASH games. And even when something GOOD comes along, the figures aren't good enough to sway people away from just pandering to the complete camel pube munching ferret cocked sack nibblers that are driving the industry.

Gamers think they have a say - lol - oh dear. The people who beat you up at school decide which games "win" now - and i'm sure their D/K rates hose most peoples too.... P.S. they'll fuck your asian nerd G/F as well... just because they can.

There are a few games that use motion controls in a fun way [like Boom Blox], but shoehorning motion controls into a game that never had motion controls before is almost always a horrible idea. Unfortunately there's way more of the latter than the former.

this post is moronic on so many levels but I will bite.

We only typically bring up GAF when YOU post another banal, meaningless thread about something that could easily be discussed in another topic, if it were even worthy of discussion. Which is what people do on GAF, for attention.

This forum was founded by "GAF rejects" yes, but EB is it's own community nowadays, I have a perfectly valid GAF account but I hardly post there. Weird huh? I wonder why that is? Why am I posting on EB if I'm not banned from GAF?

"Just insecure"? - what does that even mean? We're insecure for calling out your bullshit threads?

I thought the Wiimote was great in WiiSports, Boom Blox and aiming in RE4 and Zelda.  It's just too easy for developers to fuck up motion controls, unlike buttons which are pretty hard to fuck up.
