Fantastic show. I don't really care for the "up swell of music during an emotional scene" but maybe if they weren't there i'd be like Seinfeld without the laugh track. Other than that, very methodical and the Parents PoV is very, very good. Feels genuine.

I hated that bitch in Big Love, but so far I like the show. This is like the 5th great show AMC's released in the last few years, and it's basic cable! :bow AMC :bow2

AMC used to be such a shitty channel. It has really turned around the last couple years

Their movies still suck, but their original programming is pretty good.

if by "pretty good" you mean "the best two shows on television"

Agreed. The music is just too predictable. But this show is VERY good. The pilot and second ep were very compelling

Planning on catching up when I get home, but is this another one those "takes place in Seattle but we filmed in Vancouver" shows?

Yep, unfortunately. They do dramatic pans over Seattle but the ground stuff is Vancouver. The shows very dreary though.

Being a native Seattleite, stuff like that always bugs the shit out of me. Totally pulls me out of the "reality" of the show.

Also, every time they'd show Caprica on Battlestar, it just looked like downtown Vancouver with some CGI thrown in for good measure.

I'm really liking this so far. Has anyone seen the original? I'm thinking of downloading it, but then I'm worried that it's going to be exactly the same. I'm kind of pissed I started watching this first, as I like to watch a whole series in one go rather than waiting a whole week for a new episode (fuck that).

has anyone been watching this at all?

really the only reason I have been is because it's right after GoT.

i hadn't been able to put my finger on what I had against the show. I was somewhat enjoying following the case but there was something that wasn't right about it.

finally this week I understand. Throughout the weeks this show has been on. after following the case play out. we haven't really learned much of anything about Rosie as a character. After the first 3 episodes or show Rosie is dropped and we now follow the two detectives in their crazy loopy case. It's a case to solve Rosie's murder but at no point do I feel like it's about Rosie. The show traded getting inside of Rosie's head for a convoluted police procedural with red herrings abound.

The tagline of the show is "Who killed Rosie Larsen". It's assumed that she is a the focal point but she is not. She barely even matters. It isn't until now - weeks later - when the show is nearing the end, that she's even brought back.

It's a shame. It could have been so much more but ended up falling on it's face.

Didn't read most of your post for fear of spoilers (haven't seen tonight's ep yet). The show started off so strong only to fall apart over recent eps, especially last week's. I saw a bit of your post about Rosie not being explored, and I agree. Initially that wasn't the case. We got to know her family, and more importantly her friends. The show hit a peak when it seemed like we were learning Rosie wasn't the saint everyone portrayed her as. Yet that arc was completely abandoned as every other plot got expanded: Bennett's wife/community, Holder's AA, more political figures, etc.

Rosie has completely been lost, especially as red herring after red herring further moves the plot away. I'll probably watch the episode tomorrow; I'd rather rewatch GoT, then continue my movie marathon. There was a time when I'd watch The Killing right after GoT, but that isn't the case anymore.

tonight's episode was the best episode in many many weeks. because it focused on the Rosie case and not some dumb terrorist teacher bullshit. the interrogation scene in the middle was really good

The interrogation scene was over the top and it made me giggle a little bit, even though it was intense and fun bit of acting.

I know I'm in the minority in liking this show and liking the parts people don't like. A lot of viewers want them to cut the political stories or the family stories and I don't see a purpose to the show without those things. If it was a straight forward investigation then there would be no reason for this to be an AMC show. There isn't a lot of violence and there's pretty much no sex and little foul language. Without going into the greater scope of a murder, the show would fit right in on network TV.
