Section 8: Prejudice

I didn't really care for the original game but maybe they've improved the sequel. Certainly the price of $15 is a lot more tolerable than the full price the original tried to get away with.

Is this the Tribes revival game, or is that something else?

Seems like there is always some Tribes revival game floating around and this does have the jet packing action but its probably overall different since it has a lot more mechanics in place.

The original simply didn't feel very good on consoles and it barely sold any copies so it was very difficult to find full games. Some people liked it on PC.

Ugh, that black suit looks so much worse than the white one.

It's out. Eurogamer claims its great but then I don't think sites like that are really great for mp reviews. I'll try it out the trial edition this evening to see if I think its improved.

I played for a bit this evening. It seems mostly similar to the first game but with a story based campaign. The campaign isn't good or worth playing through but it at least resembles a campaign unlike the first game where the campaign was really just mp games pretending to be a single player campaign. Didn't have time to try the MP which I'll try tomorrow.

Better do the MP before the weekend is out, and it becomes a wasteland.

So I actually did end up playing this last night on the multiplayer side.

This is a game that ends up obviously feeling a lot better at $15 dollars than $60. I still have complaints about it. The controls aren't as ideal as they should be. It still does a really poor job of teaching you the fundamentals of how to play. It's ugly (which I don't care about).

But beneath all that there is actually a relatively solid mp offering which is a bit easier to see now that people are actually playing it versus the original which was mostly a ghostland. If you're a big mp player its worth the 15 bucks. I bought it after playing a few games because I was enjoying myself. Game has dedicated servers (although not a lot of them) which is nice. Also has server browser lists, if you are into that kind of thing. In many ways the game feels similar to the multiplayer of Homefront. You kill people and get money. And then you use that money to buy vehicle or other upgrades to help your team.

Not a bad product. And just goes to show how the game industry desperately needs more variable pricing. This is a game that could never stand at 50 or 60 dollars. But at this price its worth it imo.

Yeah, variable pricing, esp. in this climate where some games are being made for 10m USD and others for over 100. Digital distribution should make it possible, but Xbox Marketplace is not sufficiently navigable to the average user to really sustain The Long Tail, and the rapidity and frequency with which they put items on sale must surely put many consumers into a wait-and-see pattern.

...I had a point when I started that paragraph, I'm sure.  :-\

I played this game a bit more over the Easter Holiday. This game is actually quite deep. MP I mean. Surprisingly so. Quite impressive in its way really.
