OMG @ Classic Sonic

I mean, I know it's still going to be awful but the aesthetics are exactly what I always wanted a 3D Sonic to be

If all levels are based on old sonic stages, that'd be neat.  Casino Night Zone in 3D and all that.

It sounds like the 2D and 3D stages are completely separate instead of transitions like in Colors and Unleashed.

I was already pretty excited when the first trailer showed up, like been implied before it's great that Sega finally decided to pretend that modern sonic is not an actual 3D realization of classic sonic.
It would be great if you could choose your preferred sonic from the start and play the entire game in classic sonic style, but these type of awesome "your choice" game designs are something only developers from the olden days would do. You can bet the game will flipflop between the 2 styles between like every level or something in that direction.

Well, I am a little butt hurt.

Excluding the Wii and (3)DS doesn't make sense at all, given how positively received the Sonic Colors were, which iirc translated into good numbers. I wonder if the Wii's successor has anything to do with this and Nintendo is withholding a Sonic announcement for E3. But that would infer that the Wii2's release is even closer than anyone expected since the Anniversary is just around the corner, so nvm.

But again, really weird.

Will not buy into the hype until the crazy sonic fans have verified classic sonic's exact pupil color, the stripes on his socks, the exact rpms of his spin, the feel and bounce of his jumps, the number of frames in his standing animation, and the blueness of the skies and have confirmed everything is okay for consumption.

Classic Sonic music and sound effects :omg

Edit: Wow, that video really highlights what's wrong with modern Sonic compared to classic Sonic.  :lol

Classic Sonic: Build up some speed here, jump on these monsters, jump over these spikes, make sure you aim to jump on the swinging bridge, and then stop to collect these coins.

It seems like every Sonic announced in the past five years initially starts off with some "old skool" Sonic looking screens.  Then comes the bait and switch of having it take place in a city with a dozen of his stupid and shitty friends.

One thing that bugged me is classic sonic's faded out shade of blue.

this didn't seem to be the case from the first trailer, he didn't look like that here:

he looks so.. flat in those gameplay screens.

Basically, yeah. This 2.5d klonoa-y stuff their showing now looks cool but who knows what other godawful shit they'll throw in to sabotage the game.  :gloomy

I hope they keep the remade stages to a minimum. I want NEW stages - if I wanted to play old shit I already have plenty of versions of the old games.

Game still looks fantastic though. Sonic Team finally stumbled onto the winning formula with Unleashed.

Jesus, you Sonic fans never learn do you? How many times have you been excited at the deceiving CRUMBS Sega repeatedly dangled in front of you only to find yourself wallowing in your own misery after actually playing these abominations?

Had Nintendo released as many god-awful mainline Mario games as Sega has with their Sonic brand, I would have jumped ship a decade ago.

Not true, I'm pretty sure me, himuro, and wrath are all big sonic fans.  We just don't care for anything that came after Sonic and Knuckles.  Although Advance was okay, and I can say I liked Colors.

edit: And I'm starting to think you're not really a sega fan at this point.   I need to school you in blind loyalty sometime.

Classic mode looks awesome, and It sounds like you have the option of playing the entire game in one mode or the other. I was afraid they'd go the Unleashed route and force the change of gameplay on you. Now my only concern is if either mode is long enough, satisfying and worth playing alone or not.

modern sonic style isn't too bad in sonic unleashed. It's fun learning levels and then S'ing them. The problem with Modern Sonic style is that it's best be served as warp zones. You know, like back in the day? Having a whole game of it just tedious.

PC and 3DS versions were mentioned on Sega's latest financial report.  It hasn't been fully confirmed, but I believe there is a good chance it will be in the future.
