The PSP is an embarrassment of low cost riches
« on: April 24, 2011, 11:40:47 AM »
I'm guessing it is because it is either a mild bomb, clearing out space for the 3DS, or the PSP2 on the horizon, or maybe a mix of all of the above.  Either way, there is a lot of great shit on the PSP for dirt cheap brand new:

Castlevania Dracula X: $10 http://www.amazon.com/Castlevania-Dracula-X-Chronicles-Sony-PSP/dp/B000R37S00/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1303659195&sr=1-9
Killzone Liberation: $10 http://www.amazon.com/Killzone-Liberation-Sony-PSP/dp/B000HNJ5WE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1303659091&sr=1-1
Mega Man Maverick Hunter X: $12 http://www.amazon.com/Mega-Man-Maverick-Hunter-Sony-PSP/dp/B000CBCVEK/ref=pd_rhf_p_t_4
Mega Man Powered Up: $16 http://www.amazon.com/Mega-Man-Powered-Up-Sony-PSP/dp/B000CBCVF4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1303659138&sr=1-1
Power Stone Collection: $11 http://www.amazon.com/Power-Stone-Collection-Sony-PSP/dp/B000FG65EO/ref=sr_1_2?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1303659047&sr=1-2
Street Fighter Alpha 3: $9 http://www.amazon.com/Street-Fighter-Alpha-Max-Sony-PSP/dp/B00005B5RQ/ref=sr_1_2?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1303659245&sr=1-2

This is just a small portion.  Losers who want to get the 3DS say "Well, I gotta get something" and get Ridge Racer 3DS for $40, could get Ridge Racer PSP, Ridge Racer 2 PSP, and Wipeout Pure for almost the same price.

http://www.amazon.com/Ridge-Racer-Sony-PSP/dp/B0007UDYUQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1303659293&sr=1-1
http://www.amazon.com/PSP-Ridge-Racer-English-version-Sony/dp/B000JO8PXG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1303659412&sr=1-2
http://www.amazon.com/Wipeout-Pure-Sony-PSP/dp/B00006FSLC/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1303659428&sr=1-4

vs.

http://www.amazon.com/Ridge-Racer-3DS-Nintendo/dp/B002I0JLPU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1303659449&sr=1-1

In fact, you can get a PSP core unit and all of the games I listed above for less than a 3DS + Ridge Racer 3D or Pilotwank Resort.  These are just the in store Amazon new prices.  You can see from the links that some places are selling these games new for almost half of what Amazon is asking for.

I guess my point is that now is the best time to get some of the best of the best of the PSP.  It reminds me of the Dreamcast days post cancellation where people were unloading their Dreamcast stock for a small fraction of what they used to go for, allowing poor fucks like me at the time to get all kinds of classics for the cost of a new PS2 game.

I wish I hadn't given my PSP-1000 away.  That thing was in gem mint condition, and it took less than two weeks for it to be dropped and the disc drive was broken.

Capcom Collection Remixed: $10 http://www.amazon.com/Capcom-Classics-Collection-Remixed-Sony-PSP/dp/B000CBCVEA/ref=sr_1_3?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1303685507&sr=1-3
Capcom Collection Reloaded: $12 http://www.amazon.com/Capcom-Classics-Collection-Reloaded-Sony-PSP/dp/B000FG65EY/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1303685507&sr=1-1
Hot Shots Golf Open Tee 2: $6 http://www.amazon.com/Hot-Shots-Golf-Open-Sony-PSP/dp/B0016QCCG2/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1303685928&sr=1-1
Resistance Retribution: $8 http://www.amazon.com/Resistance-Retribution-Sony-PSP/dp/B001COTC3E/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1303685821&sr=1-1
Wipeout Pulse for just $5 brand spanking new: http://www.amazon.com/Wipeout-Pulse-Sony-PSP/dp/B00127VDWY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1303685403&sr=1-1

I thought about just buying all of it and be good for the next few months.  The only disappointment is that the original Lumines is going for more than I initially paid back in 2005.  As I said before, these prices remind me a lot of the Dreamcast clearances where all kinds of great shit is going for almost nothing.  Especially in the light of people having to buy C or D grade 3DS games and quick cash in ports just to have something on the handheld.

At this point, the only UMD games I'd buy are imports.  With the PSP's successor coming at the end of the year/early next year, any backwards-compatibility is gonna be using games bought of off PSN.
