Evilbore will decide the fate of my next arcade cabinet
« on: May 04, 2011, 01:55:55 PM »

I bought this arcade cab for cheap, it's kinda shitty looking right now; and this isnt my picture.. Right now its running NBA JAM TE, and the control panel is configured for 4 players. I already own NBA JAM and i'm kinda tired of it; and since that cab is kinda run down (and the monitor is aging), i'll just restore it completely and turn it into something else. What do you guys suggest?

I was thinking about turning it into a Smash TV cab, or maybe Tetris. Suggest awayyyy

Dungeons and Dragons

I must agree here. I'd actually love to make one of those myself.  There was a little mom and pop pizza place that had one years back about 45 minutes away from here.  It was neat.

Are the D&D boards hard to find? The Saturn port is pretty perfect, though.

Seems to be somewhat hard to find, and in addition, it's running on Crapcom's CPS2 which means it has a suicide battery that'll require replacement every so often and there's the risk that it's already dead prior to purchase.  Damn good game, though.  Definitely would wanna get D&D2 over the first one.

there's a board on ebay right now going for 200$  >:( , and it seems unmodified. Gah, i'll have to look around. But its an excellent idea. I'm still open to suggestion.

I'll post pics over time showing the progress..

Be aware that the arcade version isn't nearly as good as the NES game.  It's more or less just a reskin of the first arcade game.

If I can figure out how to compile MAMEoX, I might take an old TV and build an arcade box around it, and put a few original xbox arcade sticks on it and make a makeshift cab.   Iono.

I wish cabs were easy to come by where I live. I still have a Dynablaster JAMMA board I'd love to play. Got it ~12 years ago as a gift and haven't even booted it up once. Sucks. :(

So, anyway, in honor of my poor board I can only suggest you put Dynablaster or any other Bomberman game in your cab. Works with the 4player setup, too.

Alien vs. Predator  :bow

I see a listing on ebay for $50 for the B board.  Doesn't say anything about the battery, though.

Honestly, the solution tehjaybo mentioned above is probably the best thing you can do with an old arcade cabinet.  A friend of mine has a sit-down Japanese style cabinet wired up to an Xbox running emulation software and it's like a fucking dream come true.  We fire that thing up for some rounds of arcade perfect Super Street Fighter 2 X, switch over to Third Strike, wrap it up with a run through of Metal Slug 3 -- it's just standard emulation, but something about playing those games on an cab makes it so much more exciting.

Yeah, I'm super excited about building a cab with my modded xbox and an old tv and some plywood.  I think with a little paint and some arcade stick controllers, it'll be a great addition to my media room.  The ability to FTP to it and add any rom/emu that will run on it is absolutely amazing, you literally have thousands of games at your fingertips.
