Hm. I didn't feel like I was having trouble traversing anything. Right about the point where I was tired of running, I was able to slide. When I was getting tired of the brief running moments on rooftops between wires, I got glide. Just this morning, I got the re-charge when sliding. WOOOOOOT.

Good game is good. Definitely buying inFamous 2.

hmmm, sounds like I should avoid this, coming off the greatness that is inFamous 1.

read more posts than just demi's and you'll see that most people are pretty positive about the game.

Probably the same goofballs that complained that the fast cars only show up on Shoreside Vale in GTA3.

The progression has been handled really well from my perspective. Considering I'm the type who avoids story progression missions until I just can't stand any more side missions, unlocking actual abilities has made me anxious to get on with them early, and then use them during the territory unlock missions.

There's just a lot of smart stuff going on in inFamous. I'm sad that I waited this long to play it.

Definitely. Biggest disappointment this year.

the traversal is still my favorite part in infamous 2.  by the end of infamous 1, you could move around the city incredibly fast but it still felt like you were doing something (unlike prototype).  infamous 2 makes traversal even better without losing that feeling.

part of why I think the game is disappointing, but still better than the first, is how Cole never feels overpowered in combat.  I didn't like that it pulls a god of war/metroid thing at the beginning.  Actually, it's nice to read that in Arkham City, you keep everything from the first game and just get stronger.  It's balanced by giving Batman more challenge instead of weakening him.

the ice jump power is my favorite thing about this game. just something about the way the Cole gets thrown into the sky, the sound the ice makes, and the how you can use the momentum to leap across roof tops is really satisfying.

Did we mention the crappy enemies like the Ice Titan, the Hive Mind, the Ravager, the Behemoth, heck, all of the Ice Conduits, Cole's shitty stun that makes him get pelted over and over, the crappy locale (Flood Town lolllllllllllll), the crappy characters (not ONE mention of Moya? They took the time to retcon John back in), the smorgasborg of developers involved (a sign of a malformed game, no less), the horrendous second half of the game, the boring side missions that are even more repetitive than the first game

what's wrong with flood town and the ice conduits? I just got there and finding it pretty entertaining. more so than anything as of yet in the game.

Exactly.

It's players like that who convince developers that players don't actually know what they want.

Take AI as an example. Seriously, the gameplay complaint you'll hear the most is "brain dead AI," right?

But the easiest AI to make is one that's just about perfect. One which is always locked on and always scores the most debilitating shots. What is hard is making an AI that doesn't make the player feel outmatched from the outset.

And they'll say, "Yeah, but what I want is something like a human player..."

No, no they most certainly do not. The average action game has a player taking on 5 or more NPCs at once, and emerging triumphant, before moving on to the next skirmish. The average player, in an online fight against 5 or more organized PLAYERS, is a fine red mist before he knows he's been in a fight. And this example forgoes the human players who can do magic looking shit in a game, and would give this whiner The Tony Danza.

So they don't want "human" and they don't want a cakewalk. What they want is a challenge and, yeah, that's damned hard.

Man, I was in a pissy mood when I wrote that. I messed up my back last Friday, and have been in nutzo pain ever since.

Thank you, kindly. I'm in a bit better shape tonight: I can bend at the hips, and no longer want to kill everyone.

ending
spoiler (click to show/hide)
yeah not that great ending. at least there's a little bit of hint that Cole will resurrect with the final big lightning bolt in the center of the screen where the boat was.

the game didn't leave an lasting impression like the first game did. still really enjoyed it.

Played a little bit of this at a Best Buy kiosk. Looked very interesting from the little play-time I had.

The demo for inFamous 2 took a long, long time to download. What the HELL is up with Sony's download speeds? It's one thing to know about the DDoS, but this has been true since before the breach.

So, anyway: The demo is really impressive. I'm glad I downloaded it. I'm playing the original pretty intensely lately, so I'm able to contrast the two readily. inFamous 2 is GORGEOUS. Everything about it looks better. You know, I really didn't care about the ventriloquist dummy style facial animation in the cutscenes until I saw how far they'd taken everything in 2.

When I went back to playing the original, I was happy to see that the game isn't ugly in comparison, but the differences are really clear. It also looks like the animation blending is much more smoothly handled this time around.
