Dunno, he's made similar comments before - I doubt he felt ashamed, and I also doubt he was drunk. The "intruders are ruining the mother land" argument is pretty prominent among some Europeans, especially on GAF. He was making an argument he probably makes in real life to friends, associates, etc.
