New Super Marios Mii is a sequel! Nice.  I kinda like there's a stylus with it.  I don't like drawing on capacitive touch screens.

Is it true EA is their online partner?  I kinda don't like the sound of that.

they showed a load of third party games, all running on -whatever- looking exactly like their 3rd party brothers - yet when they showed games OBVIOUSLY made for the WiiU (the Mii games and, especially, Tekken) they all looked poor.

Mii games never push hardware, even on wii, and Tekken is a year and a half off at least.

do they expect core gamers to re-buy stuff like Batman AA and Battlefield 3 when this thing hits? why? the controller looks cumbersome. the gimmicky touch screen stuff won't be much of a sell to core gamers who already own a 360/ps3, or casuals who already own iphones/ipads

the online won't be up to par either, so you can forget the CODbro audience

this thing is about 4 yrs out of date

aesthetically, it looks like a kids touch-screen toy

the path to their imagined victory seems to rest on all Wii purchasers rushing out to upgrade.

That seems to be Nintendo plan too,but i think that they will be surprised.

Why would some waggle loving casual buy this thing?
-because his Wii games and accessories work on Wii U?lol

Why would some dudebro buy this?
-no reason at all

Wii U sounds like some Wii upgrade, people will be confused

And that leaves who exactly?

Nintendo deserves to be trolled.

Lets take a look at an early example of what the system can do....then shows something that could be running on the 360. Give me a fucking break, these guys live in another world.

I like instant switch between controller and TV but that's it, this shit will make controllers pricey and very sensitive.

Controllers often get dirty, greasy, thrown to the wall...etc so this will just add more trouble to the gamer.

These console makers need to learn that when you lose focus and try to please everyone, you end up alienating everyone. I want my game system to do one thing and one thing only, play games.

The Wii U can output up to 1080p video via HDMI, and it can handle one tablet controller plus as many as four Wii Remotes or Wii Remote Plus wands. (In fact, the Wii U is backward compatible with all Wii games and accessories.)]

well, there goes that concern of controller cost.

Except DS has a touch screen and controller parts, it gets dirty, greasy, and thrown to the wall, and lugged around when I travel and I've never had mine break.  It will be about as much trouble as that.

Indeed Nintendo always has very good hardware build quality.

Do you think we're moving any closer toward that theoretical "one-console future"?

If...and it seems this time as though its no exaggeration...Nintendo has truly garnered the support of third parties. And they have still maintained an innovative perspective, and brought to the table a controller that enhances gameplay...

I believe we might be a step closer. Imagine. The WiiU will have first party nintendo games, hardcore and casual, AND the DEFINITIVE version of multiplatform games like Call of Duty, FIFA, Grand Theft Auto, etc...

What reason do you have left to buy any other system?
(For me, Sony's first party efforts are the only remaining competitor.)

All of this combined with a gradual move toward Cloud-computing/storage and digital distribution...

Seems to me like its just a race to see who gets there first.

Please try to keep this discussion civil.

No, but what we are moving too is Nintendo's handheld being the controller for their home console, which is something they have wanted since gba linking to gamecube.

The Zelda thing isn't really a playable demo. It's just an interactive movie where you can change the lighting from day to night while Link fights. You can move the camera too.

I think the best thing about it having 360 quality graphics, is that it probably extends this generation out till 2014.  360 sales are still rising and the console hasn't hit $150 yet, and Sony invested to much into ps3 to start next gen early, and this doesn't really force Microsoft to do an early launch.

I think Skyward Sword looks really good  :-[

It and Mario 3DS (which was slightly disappointing because it looks slow and rigid compared to galaxy) are the nice things Nintendo showed.

Watched the rest of the conference.  The audience retardishly cheering for Batman Arkham City coming to Wiiu at least six months after other platforms.  Does Nintendo stack the audience or just gas sane people that happened to wander in?

Wiiu looks really dumb.  There are some neat concepts and ideas shown, but Nintendo's approach is so stupid and dated and stupid.  iPad 2 is more how it should be, and Sony is daft if the Vita doesn't have TV out now, because both those can essentially do the same thing except you're not tethered to a base station.

I did appreciate the honesty when Reggie kept saying "or", because that's what it is.  That fake-Zelda tech demo had touch screen controls when it was on TV, then switched to use the controller display as the main one...where did the touch screen inventory stuff go? bunch of mutually exclusive design decisions.

The system seems relatively powerful, I guess.  360 came out in late 2005, this is mid-2012...you'd kind of expect something like that.  If I do buy one of these, I'll probably get multiplat games on it for the ~year before the next gen consoles show up.

The demo doesn't impress me, but the new batch of info has me excited:

From Something Awful

Quote
-Skyloft is the "hub" and is like WW's Great Sea, but with flying
-Hyrule is one giant dungeon, and the actual temples are like dungeons-within-dungeons
-Giant birds replace the horse/boat
-You will be required to revisit dungeons you've already beaten, a la Metroid
-Items will be upgradeable, but you'll have to find the necessary materials
-Dungeons have warp points like the cauldrons in WW, but they warp you back to Skyloft
-Zelda is a Saria/Malon/Ilia-type character and does not start the game as royalty
-There is orchestrated music, and it's awesome
