It's an arcade style score-based game, you're meant to replay each level until you've mastered them. Next thing you know people will be complaining about shooters because you can "beat" them in 25 minutes. o wait

I don't know what's worse, Ubisoft charging $50 for the game, or people defending that price point. If anyone else other then Miziguchi made this game, people would be bitching about it being so short and so expensive.

I am tired of level 1. I always miss an enemy during the final section, so I always wind up with 99% purification. Very annoying.

Whatever though, gold stars should be easy enough. Getting 800k is pretty easy, the hardest part is memorizing each stage so you can kill the enemies before they run away.

edit: Finally got the gold on Matrix. I got 99% on the final section like 6 or 7 times in a row, so once I got 700k score just now, I stopped comboing enemies and just killed everyone as fast as I could. It worked. :)

Got the gold stars on Beauty now, that one didn't take long. I still need to play it a few more times to get the rest of the unlockables for Lumi's garden. Guess I'll do stages 4 and 5 tomorrow.

On a side note, the achievement guide on x360a really overrated the difficulty of this game. No way in hell is it a 9/10... more like a 7. Maybe 8 depending on how hard Hard mode is (I haven't tried it).

Anyway, just gold starred stage 4 on my first try. :bow me

Just gotta do stage 5, then I'll do them again on Hard. Shouldn't be too tough.

You'll get used to it after a while. Just count 1-2-3-4 in your head along with the beat, and tap your foot or something to help keep the rhythm. I only got 300-500k scores on each stage the first time I went through the game, but once you get used to the timing, it's pretty easy to stay in sync with it.

Damn I got 92% Purify and only 450k still. I'm poo at these Octalocks... trying to Gold Star before moving onto the next stage.

Ok I read some info on Octalocks...

You can kill enemies in-between and not lose your rank, or if you need to shoot away some purple / bullets. You only lose the multi when you screw up the Octalock beat. I think that's what was throwing me off. I assumed I kept losing my multi when I didnt hit 8.

Also need to learn how long an enemy hangs around before disappearing... so I can take my time to get the beat.

Stage 1 was by far the hardest for me to gold star. I just did it on Hard, and while there are some changes, you can mostly use the same strategy.

Some things to know about stage 1:

1. Right at the start of the first section you can miss a wave of enemies if you don't kill the jiggly orange guys fast enough. I think it's the third wave specifically that you need to kill quickly, otherwise the 4th won't spawn.

2. On the section right after, only do 8x octolocks on the giant worm dudes that fly around. When the smaller enemies come flying in, just kill them by rapidly hitting A as fast as you can so they don't fly away.

3. On the section before the mid-boss, you can miss enemies if you don't give them time to spawn from the orange cubes. This was only a problem for me on the third phase though, so just give it a little time so they all come out.

The area after that with the walls is easy to do.

4. On the next area, the one that leads into the boss, it's easy to miss the small flying enemies as they spawn out of the spheres that you have to destroy. It's usually the third sphere where I would miss the enemies, but I found that if you kill the two that come out on the right side quickly, you can take out the other 3 that went to the left before they run away. And then 3 more (IIRC) will fly in, so just kill them as they come in. Then you need to kill the giant worm that's flying around, because if you don't do that fast enough, one of the purple worms won't spawn from the bottom sphere. There should be 2 of them. And then the rest is straight forward.

And when going for gold stars, just aim for 700k score because if you save the 3 bombs, you'll get 100k bonus at the end. If you find yourself ahead on points, you can use a bomb to clear out enemies before they escape, but having two bombs at the end only gives you 50k bonus, so it costs you a decent chunk of points.

Yeah what was throwing me off was that, I thought if I did like a "1" shot, I would lose my multi, so I kept trying to come up with an Octalock, then the enemiees would fly away and I'd be screwed. It's ok though, I'll focus on octalocks when I know I can come up with them.

There are videos on YT for getting 100% so it's not so bad.

I wish I knew what was a good "score" to have at specific waves, and what enemies don't run away after X time. Someone needs to hurry up and make a scoring guide.

About to gold star all of Hard... I've only got the last level left, but I messed up and let an enemy run away during the 3rd phase or whatever. So annoying.

I'm not sure about score at specific waves, but most of the bosses are worth a shit load of points, so keep that in mind. The stage 2 boss gives ~250k I believe, the boss on stage 3 gives ~350k, the stage 4 boss is worth 200k or so, and the final boss gives another 300-350k. Stage 1 I don't really remember.

Is there any places you can milk? For example, the mid-boss. Can I chill back and milk the little fish, and leave the 3 orbs sitting there? I mean, there's gotta be some extra points somewhere. Dudes have 1.3 million, and I'm having trouble cracking 800.

I think the only place that you can milk a little (like 50k worth maybe) is the first area of stage 5. That's the only milkable spot in the game AFAIK.

People who get 1 million+ are just comboing the entire stage, octolocking almost every enemy and never dropping their combo. I got 1 million on stage 1 and I still stopped every now and then to rapid fire enemies before they escaped (and I only got 91% purification lol).

But anyway, I finally gold starred the last level. That was actually the hardest this time around, because I actually died a few times toward the end. That was really annoying. I'll probably clean up the last achievements tomorrow for the 1000/1000. Gonna go play Shadows of the Damned now.

Cleared the Hope archive, woo. That level is kinda tough, but after practicing for an hour or two it's not so bad. Just gotta memorize the tricky parts.

I'm still missing two achievements - one for collecting all of the shit for Lumi's garden, and another 20 pt achievement. Not sure what that one is, gonna have to look it up.

I liked the game but thought Rez is better.  Music was better in Rez.  Child of Eden level 4 was probably the best.

random thing: I play rez with inverted controls, but this with regular controls.  the third person character on screen messes with my brain.
