Anyone have any guess on how Square is going to react to the vita. Support doesn't seem there for it unlike the psp

o.O they had a launch game

2 new in house games for the 3DS vs 2 published games and FFX thats also on the PS3

Announcements for the Vita have been slim from them, unlike the 3DS

Why would they wait to announce games that people in japan would want considering its basically dead there? Even some hint to japan that hey we didn't forget you, although from all appearances they did

I'm not excited for KH3D after BbS. That game didn't tickle my fancy at all, even when I approached it with the "right mindset." The only SE game I find even remotely interesting is Bravely Default, but gosh I wish they'd scrap that name.

Having another big Japanese publisher on board and announcing games for vita is the reason to care. Even if their resent output has been subpar

Personally, I don't give a shit about the next DQ or KH. However, looking forward to Type 0 (hopefully) and Bravely Defaulting

Bebpo's review of Type-0 and its mandatory RTS sections :yuck have distilled my hype on the game... Bravely Default I'm pretty hyped for but I am praying to jebus that it doesn't use the busted-ass Four Heroes of Light system, and at least has a bit of a story this time.

SquareEnix will be on the Vita.  They're just slow to arrive on any system that requires budgets and dev time.  Their first major PSP game was Crisis Core and remember how it was vaporware and took years to come out?  They had a bunch of DS games in the mean time like TWEWY, Rocket Slime 2, DQ remakes, FF3r.  Then after CC, they started pumping out more stuff and eventually got Dissidia, T3B, BBS, Type 0.

I expect to see a lot of the big Japanese players on Vita, but like the first year or two of the psp, I expect Vita to be ports and low effort games.

btw, KH is on 3DS because Nomura doesn't give a shit about system wars.  After BBS, he wanted to make a KH game in < 2 years with the BBS engine and team and at the time, 3DS was the only option (unless he wanted it on PSP again, but no one knew if the PSP would still be alive in 2012), so it was on 3DS.  After KH 3D, he'll figure out where the next one will go.  KH has been on GBA/DS/PSP/3DS.  It'll probably be on Vita too.

since when did Katamari introduce a new control scheme? demo doesn't give off a good impression, but the new controls make it easier and the stretch/squash thing is a nice gimmick.

game doesn't look good, and I don't mean in that Katamari quirk way.  ugly ugly shadows, not so great image quality, etc.  for a game so basic this stuff shouldn't have been difficult.

Not sure when they introduced the new controls but I never even tried them, haha.  I wouldn't be surprised if they made it easier to play, but honestly Katamari without twin stick rolling doesn't feel like Katamari to me.  Part of the fun and challenge is dealing with the controls.

And you can tell that from the first year of a console?   ::)
I guess the PS3 shouldn't be having a long lifespan either.

Vita sales suck.  They could be worse, but they're definitely not good.

However the system is awesome and the games already out and on their way are top notch gaming that people who are not dirty poors or ntards are currently enjoying the shit out of.  This thread is for those people to splooge over how great the games they are playing and awesome the hardware is while trolling Namco.

I'm surprised tech-heads like you haven't bought one considering it's probably the hottest piece of tech on the market in years.

I started playing Escape Plan last night after switching to my US account for a while to play Tales from Space, SSDD, and Escape Plan.

I reaaaaaaally like the aesthetic of the game.  Fantastic classical music to fit the black & white somber atmosphere.  I also like the creative used in the touch puzzles.  It's the first game I've played that has made good use of the rear-touchpad and kind of "innovates" gaming a bit with pushing objects on the Z axis by using front & rear touch.

Still, the controls, being so touch based, are pretty iffy!  Get ready to die a lot and be annoyed.  But the levels are short and I hear the game is only 3 hours so hopefully it won't get TOO bad.  Enjoying it other than the finicky controls.  Would probably recommend it if you like these types of puzzle games, but maybe not at $15; depends on how you value money.  I think it's worth more than Super Stardust, but that's because I find Super Stardust mind-numbingly boring after about 20-30 mins of circling around a planet shooting rocks with a couple of weapons.

Tales from Space seemed pretty cool from the first couple of levels.  Traditional platformer with katamari growing gimmick.  Controlled pretty well and has wall jumping.

I am getting the itch to buy one (especially after seeing the Lumines tracklist) but:
-I spent a fortune on condo renovations (with still more to spend).
-No idea how well it will do in the future, I was kinda hoping it would pick up right where the PSP left off in Japan, and get all the good weeaboo games, but now they seem to be stuck on the 3DS
-Still haven't gotten the 3DS, which seems like it'll have a slightly more appealing library in the future. Waiting on the inevitable redesign for that system.

as a fairly neutral gamer the 3DS fucking sucks. it is underpowered, the battery life is terrible, and it's getting a redesign soon because its initial layout is pure fail.

full disclosure, I was in the camp that thought the DS was going to be DOA, and the PSP would smash, but this current scenario is last gen amplified to where I really can't understand it.

the DS ended up with some really good games. The 3D was atrocious, but there was some good 2D support, and I dunno...it ended up working with enough money thrown at it.

buying the 3DS I regret more than buying the Virtual Boy. there are a few good (great?) games for it, but it's still underpowered, and the 3D gimmick ensures there really won't be a lot of cool 2D (or even 2.5D) games. I haven't played Mario or RE, kinda want to, but am also really tempted to sell off the system and all the games for it and re-buy a DSLite and the new round of console stuff I've been missing.

I really just want the Vita to at least get the support the PSP did. It is (like the PSP before it) doing things the 3DS just can't, and it gels more with what I really want out of a portable. If the thing gets PSP levels of support, I think it would be good enough...I just kinda smell another Dreamcast at this point. Hoping I'm wrong.

INB4 MAGUS

buying the 3DS I regret more than buying the Virtual Boy.

::)

there are a few good (great?) games for it

I'd say in terms of AAA efforts it's easily better than DS's first 1.5 year.

but it's still underpowered, and the 3D gimmick ensures there really won't be a lot of cool 2D (or even 2.5D) games.

Take a trip to the eShop. This idea has no basis in reality.

Also a 2.5D Mario is coming this year. If it follows was NSMB did for DS and NSMBW did for Wii, then a lot more 2/.5D games from third parties and Nintendo themselves will follow. This isn't something to be remotely worried about. 90% chance the 3DS will end up with more 2/.5D games than Vita, as well.

I haven't played Mario or RE, kinda want to, but am also really tempted to sell off the system and all the games for it and re-buy a DSLite

::) Go right ahead.

I'd want Vita to get more support simply because it's good hardware.  I'm stupid enough to think "This is the best hardware, why wouldn't you want it to succeed?" That just makes sense to me.  It's why it's hard to have empathy with people who care about Nintendo hardware.  I like Nintendo's software a lot, but its hardware is sad.  I believe if you put that good software on good hardware, it would be even better.  Dolphin on PC sort of gives a taste of that.  I'm not talking Nintendo software on the Vita or 360 or anything.  I'd be more than happy if Nintendo would make quality hardware.  That's getting a bit off topic.

I'm thankful that some of the companies I like are Sony fanboys so regardless of how the system does they'll support it with original titles.  Namely Nippon Ichi and Falcom.  And that companies like Namco and SquareEnix support pretty much everything so they'll put Tales games (mains or spinoffs) and FF-related stuff on it at some point.  The ones in the air are companies like Atlus, Capcom, Konami.  It used to be that Kojima Productions were big Sony players, hence all the MGS stuff at PSP launch and MGS4, but their support of Vita right now is vaporware so who knows.  I don't even know if Konami makes videogames anymore.  A new Metal Gear Ac!d for Vita launch that used all the system gimmicks would have been cool.

I the end I expect 3DS to get the lion's share of the low-budget/mid-budget handheld Japanese games, but it seems likely that Vita will still get a lot of games I want.

Plus I simply expect to see more low-tier/mid-tier stuff get multi-platform releases like 999-2.  999-2 sold pretty damn close between the versions despite like a 100x install base difference.  I think a lot of games that are the less mainstream titles that will sell <100k will probably do pretty close on Vita/3DS, at least close enough to make it worth spending the $1,000 to port over the game, add Anti-alaising + trophies and call it a day.  I am completely fine if the Vita library is 3DS games with superior versions + PS3/X360 portdowns.  No reason to play the 3DS then besides Nintendo 1st party games.  For instance if they port over RE: Revelations with better visuals + better controls + trophies...improvement!

Mutant Mudds isn't good. And none of those games are worth anythign except maybe Pushmo. Wow you really begging for straws

To get back on topic, let's talk about Vita's sales some more.

vvvvvv doesn't really count because everyone already played it on PC unless they were a dirty po-(oh wait it was a penny in many indie bundles)-oblivious to good games.

For instance if they port over RE: Revelations with better visuals + better controls + trophies...improvement!

yeah, that's pretty much what I want and expect.  ideally it helps both the 3ds and vita, gets more projects going since there are now multiple systems to support, and all that.

honestly I'd be satisfied if this was just Sony pre-PS3's nomad or turboexpress.

I often wonder about those who consider Nintendos digital offerings as fantastic. Are they deliberately ignoring the PC indie scene or are they actually that ignorant?

Pushmo is the only legit AAA game on the eShop. The rest ranges from decent to mediocre. (All six of them)

Oh yeah, I've never given DSiware a chance. I can't justify those prices for second rate iOS ports. Oh LAWD those prices.
