there's a lot of choppy shit about the vita, like that godawful web browser

It feels like an incomplete POS. Someone mentioned Sony promising improvements, as their original objective was to optimize it enough to run alongside games (right now it prompts you to close your backgrounded game), but I won't believe it until I see it. Even my 3 y/o 3GS renders websites better and more smoothly.

what is the Vita's excuse for not running Flash, btw?

Adobe ceasing mobile Flash development, if Sony is to be believed. "We're still negotiating with Adobe" was the last thing we heard about the subject.

The PS3 is mobile?

I guess i don't understand why something with the specs of the Vita or the PS3 can't run a browser I can run on a Pentium II

i can't imagine persona 5 going to the 3ds.  if it goes to a handheld, it will be the vita, for sure.  i still think it's going to be a console game, though.  catherine was the warm-up for the persona team.

the 3ds seems more like a place where smt4 would go.

Vita is in a place where Persona 5 could be 3DS and upgraded for the Vita, covering all mobile bases, or all relevant consoles (including Wii U) and a slight hit for the Vita version.

I don't get why companies will make game for one platform anymore.  It's like that 'update' on the Vita Bioshock where we learned it's not Bioshock Infinite and still "real".  Unless Sony invested in it, release that on XBLA/PSN too.  Exclusivity seems so archaic when it's not first party.

Oh, the PS3 situation can probably be explained by...

a) People --including Sony-- not giving a fuck, and viewing browsers on consoles as nothing more than a bullet-point feature.
b) The small amount of memory allocated for the OS. It has access to a whopping 50MBs these days.

360/PS3/Vita seems like it could be a good place for P5.  I just saw some dope on GAF suggest P5 development should be moved from PS3 to Vita because of costs.

I can attest that this is a universal problem and cannot be attributed to Eel's technocurse.

Sometimes I almost feel that downloading content from PSN, as terribad as it is, is quicker than transferring from the PS3.

the USB transfer speed is very slow, yes.  I don't get why.

given the way Catherine sold across PS3 and 360, there's no way Atlus would want to leave 360 out for P5.

plus, why do an initial Vita port when you can wait 6 months to a year and call it a special edition and get tons of double-dippers?

Now that's true.

I was just saying that Vita is capable enough to accept down ports from the consoles.  I'd also like Catherine on Vita, since I didn't play it on consoles.

Theres no reason to put P5 on 360. Theyd sell more on PS3.

At this point I think it's fairly safe to assume it's a mix of both, as is the case with almost every system and pre-launch hype. But I'd give it more time until we see more original games, since most of the ones released right now are quick ports or games that started out on the PS3. Most devs received their devkits as late as April '11.

That's not great news.  Show should run smoothly since baseball games only show a few players at a time.  Why didn't they just lock FIFA at 30fps?  A jumpy framerate makes a sports game much more unplayable.

I wanna jump in but it seems that either devs don't know what they're doing or the vita is not as powerful as expected.  Gimme some hope.

I'm hoping that devs are just learning how to squeeze more horsepower out of the Vita without draining the battery too soon.  Also, both the GPU and CPU are multi-cores, right?  Portable devs probably don't have much experience with such complicated hardware.

The problem is the system is not as powerful as a PS3 or X360 (which it doesn't need to be) yet devs are trying to hit the "port" button and just port over PS3/X360 games "as is" so of course they're gonna run like shit and be sub-HD and stuff.

They need to go in and downgrade everything until it runs smooth.

Getting near the end of Tales from Space & Escape Plan and I think I prefer the latter at this point.  Tales from Space is a really nice little indie platformer but I feel like it's slow to introduce a whole lot of new concepts in its level progression so after about 10 levels it started getting a little less interesting.  Still a very solid little platformer, but I don't find it engrossing like vvvvvv or super meat boy or anything.

Otoh, Escape Plan does a good job at continually introducing now puzzle concepts and challenges every room (so every minute or two).  Keeps it really fresh and enjoyable.  Game has been a pleasant surprise tbh.  I really like the art/animation/music.  Reminds me of The Neverhood.

It's all moot.  Any money spent on making a built-for-Vita game take advantage of its specs is money in the toilet.  Vector-based games like Loco Roco or whatever should look nice tho.

Vita owners are more likely than not to care a lot about graphics, no?  Game companies should keep that in mind if they wanna make a Vita game that sells.

Well, I'm sure Epic will port Infinity Blade or whatever.  If I ran a pub I wouldn't even consider greenlighting a new Vita game that cost more than a couple mil - unless I was Sony, who don't have to pay royalties and are trying to sell the platform.

Actually they scrapped the Catherine engine and opted to make their own for P5.  Weren't happy with Gamebryo even though the final product looked good and was bug free.

I suspect this might delay P5 a bit, since Japan + custom PS3/X360 engines has been problematic for many a dev.

Finished Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack.  It was ok.  A good solid game, but it never reaches beyond being a solid game by a small dev.  It never feels like a GREAT game from a top notch developer; there aren't any moments of genius.  It's definitely worth it $7-8 price and is a fun little platformer, but I could've played better Vita games during the same hours spent on it.  7/10ish.

Escape Plan has shown me the dangers of systems with multi-touch screens.  I'm in the final area now, so the difficulty has gone through the roof and I just did a stage where you have to hold down 6 spots on the screen to prevent poison smoke from coming out and then perform touch movements with two characters while holding down the 6 areas.

...yeah.  Devs can make EVIL THINGS if they want out of a multi-touch screen.

The Show doesn't look bad at all. Anyone who says it looks like a PSP port has never played a PSP version of The Show.

The Show was one of the only reasons I ever pulled out my PSP, and this is a HUGE improvement.
