We'll get a Killzone (ugh), and maybe another Resistance. Sony might try a Vita-specific original FPS at some point.  The Medal of Honor games obviously sold well enough on PSP for EA to produce two of them, so we'll probably get another one of those.  MAYBE a Battlefield, but it'll be one of those mediocre iOS Battlefields ported over.  id might do a simple spin-off of one of their franchises just to test the waters.  Gameloft will likely port over one of their Modern Combat games. A couple of other iOS devs might port over their FPS games, as well.  There's a good chance that the COD Activision is coming out with this Fall will be the only full COD we ever get from them, but after that they may break off the Spec Ops and Zombie modes and sell them on PSN or something.  I have a feeling that Bioshock game is going to quietly disappear and never be mentioned again.

I'm gonna reach deep inside my ass and pull out a guess that, over the Vita's lifespan, we'll see a dozen or so FPS games altogether, including smaller PSN-only stuff.

has anyone seen any talk about the new XSeed PSN game Sumioni?

I watched a guy play the demo, but was curious if any of the JPN account users had given it a shot

I've only watched a few gameplay trailers of it, but even at $20 it's a bit too expensive for me. Maybe I'll consider it once I'm done with all the launch titles I picked up.

"Hey, you know a pick up and play game that might be perfect for a handheld? Quick matches you could play on the go, sharing collectibles, creating levels, all based on a fairly successful and established franchise?"

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2012-03-20-playstation-vita-god-of-war-idea-was-floated-by-ready-at-dawn

Quote
PlayStation Vita has sold over 1.2 million units worldwide so far, and the key to the platform's long-term success will be software, of course. Unfortunately, Vita won't be receiving any titles from God of War PSP developer Ready at Dawn, who confirmed to GamesIndustry International recently that the chance to make a Vita God of War game was considered.

Ru Weerasuriya, co-founder and CEO of Ready at Dawn, acknowledged, "It's an idea that was floated as far as what could happen on the Vita. And especially with a platform like that, we were enticed I think by the prospect of doing something on that platform, but it just didn't align with what we wanted, so I'm hoping that they do something on that because I definitely think that they should. There's so much potential for it. But it's something we toyed with for a little while."

...

So now Ready at Dawn is taking its one team and applying it to work on an unannounced next-gen project. According to Weerasuriya, it's what his team has always wanted to do.

"When it came to really decide what we wanted to do next, I think most of the guys internally just wanted to do something that, in some ways, we had built this company for. It's taken us time to get there and we've wanted to do new IP, we've been working on it for a while, and we felt the time was right and it was just the perfect alignment of everything that was happening," he said.

"And I think the big thing for us was just that we took the decision early to just skip a generation. I know that most people would have jumped on the current generation... most people ask us that, how do you go from a handheld to a next generation console? I think it's the right thing to do. Sometimes you've just got to make your bets and live by them."

Quote
So what's the studio working on? What platforms? Needless to say, Weerasuriya wouldn't divulge any specifics, but he did tell us this: "What I can tell you is that it's going to follow the lines of the type of games we make. It's going to be an action/adventure game, single player driven mainly, and there might be other components to it, but really, our goal is to tell a story where we want to be a story telling kind of team the way we built ourselves."

He also explained Ready at Dawn's desire to be prepared for next-gen from the start.

I sorta take back what I said about Unit 13. It controls well, and looks good enough, but the random difficulty spikes (suicidal shotgun guys = dead screen on loop) plus the trial and error gameplay have kind of turned me off to it. Getting almost to the end of a mission and having it fail completely out has caused me to close the game in fury several times. I guess I'm just too old and too short of patience nowadays for games like this.  I think I might sell it, online code is unused so maybe I can recoup most of my money.

Is the online play in UMVC3 cross platform? Like can you be playing on the Vita and be matched against someone on the PS3 with an arcade stick?

No, but if you own the PS3 version you can access its DLC. GamesRadar put up a feature about cross-platform gaming a few weeks ago.

Man, I don't give a shit what the review scores were, I am really enjoying Modnation Racers: Road Trip.  I played the demo enough that I decided to use another $10 off coupon at Gamestop and pick it up for $20.  Menus were a bit laggy until I patched it, and it's still not perfect, but the patching did smooth things out somewhat. It's not as bullshit cheap with weapons and last-minute robbery as the PS3 version was (before they toned it down in a patch, anyway).  Framerate slows some during hectic parts, but I actually found that helped my old eyes see what was going on more clearly through the chaos :lol  There's no online MP (just adhoc, and I hope they patch Adhoc Party on PS3 to add Vita games compatibility - it already works for emulated PSP games on Vita), but you can download any tracks/carts/dudes created on the PS3 version. Haven't fucked with any of the creation stuff yet, seems like it can get pretty deep if you want.

Not a $30 game, but for $20 or under I'd say it's worth it for some quick pick up karting, and the possibility for a lot of replay via downloading track creations.

I also picked up Splinter Cell Essentials and Endwar for $2.50, and GRAW 2 for $5 off the PSN Clancy sale

I'm interested to know if Splinter Cell is any good and if the Vita's right analog helps with whatever shortcomings they had to make.  I had no idea there was a GRAW on PSP until today, but apparently there are two Ghost Recon game and Rainbow Six Vegas (doesn't work on vita yet, apparently).

Apparently some PSP games have been pulled from the PSN store (Motorstorm and Hot Shots Tennis because of an exploit/hack), and removed from all download lists - if it's not already on your PSP or Vita memory stick, you ain't getting it, in other words. They'll probably go back up at some point, but that and the fact that I have already bought a handful of PSP games got me to thinking:

According to their TOS they can remove the ability to download games at any time, and don't necessarily have to refund your money or credit your account (at least in the US). There's no guarantee that the April firmware update (which supposedly fixes some things on the browser and updates Vita/PSP compatibility) won't "shut out" certain games from being played on the Vita, whether it's because of rights issues or exploits or whatever. Particularly the ones which aren't on the official BC list that folks have been transferring via PS3.

So if, like me, you've been buying cheap PSP games to play on "dat screen," I'd be careful about updating the OS whenever the firmware releases. Check around on the various message boards first to see if anything's no longer working, or transfer has been blocked. If that happens, you might just be shit out of money/luck. I'm personally going to hold off on buying any more PSP stuff from the store until the update happens, and see what shakes out then. They certainly have a history of snatching shit away without much (if any) warning or explanation.

yeah, the new art style isn't bad, but the Wii game was really charming and unique.  the only positive is the art style change will look better at higher resolutions, while the Wii games was purposefully a bit smudgy.

I wonder what else was changed.  The music was a big part of the original game too.  I know touch controls were added, but the original didn't use waggle or pointer controls at all and if anything would've benefited from dual analog controls.  Combat was like an RTS/Pikmin mixed with a twin stick shooter, only without the 'twin sticks' part on the wii.

LKS is one of my favorite Wii games and maybe the best third part one.  If LKS Vita comes to the states I'll still end up buying it if it's not completely butchered.

I have a feeling that it will be completely butchered.

I haven't played the original, but the art style and music (from whatever media and trailers were released) were *the* hooks to get anyone interested (or repelled, depending on your tolerance). So with those two major aspects missing I'm not sure if the game can stand on its own [core content], especially with that more derivative new style.

I'm also worried about the new touch control scheme. I doubt they care enough about the game to tighten it up enough to justify it. Only time will tell, but I have a bad feeling about.

You can be half a lap ahead of everyone on the final lap and some unavoidable randomness will come out of nowhere and knock you back to last place. Ugh.  So far I'm 1 for 3 on Vita games.

I'm a bit worried about Vanillaware.  The English version of Grand Knights History seems to have stalled waiting on their work, too.

Should have stuck with Wii games.  :maf

OK so that didn't work out great for them either. >_> Vanillaware was always screwed when a true PS2 successor never really happened.

this is exciting, hope someone starts making |OT| for these

hey, didn't one of those sony dudes say they knew how much everyone hated updating the ps3 all the time for little stuff, and how they weren't gonna do that with the vita

There might be stealth features in the patch. Dylan Cuthbert mentioned that a patch in April would make PixelJunk Monsters compatible.

according to gaf there are other fixes that weren't mentioned.  downloads now continue when you put the system into sleep, and that was something I complained about, so...good jon?

one simple thing I'd like is a download list that doesn't include incompatible items.  I have to scroll through dozens of PS3 games to find the one PSP game I can download.

everyone's calling for PS1 and better remote play, i'm gonna say no one's getting that until E3 so they have something else to talk about

i've just been kidding about the "vita doomed" stuff so far, but if they only spend five minutes of their E3 presentation on the vita and are presenting PS1 BC as a big thing then you'll know something's up

i think they'll probably have some activision rep demoing COD vita, and a LBP demo, those are likely gonna be their two big Fall vita games along with a handful of PSN announcements
