It might've been due to the update deleting locally stored trophies.  Same thing happens when you switch accounts, but there's no warning here that mentions you'll need to manually sync trophies before updating.  Either a firmware error or hilariously stupid oversight.

and going from using my 3DS lately back to the Vita, I think I actually prefer the face buttons on the 3DS.  The face buttons are the one part of the Vita's hardware design that's lacking.  Buttons are really small, stick out, and sit too closer to the right analog stick.  For such a large system it's odd to have these tiny bumps all cramped together.

edit:  I think it's just the position.  I checked my PSP Go and while those buttons and flatter and clickier, they're roughly the same size and I never had a problem there.  the reason it isn't a problem on consoles isn't just the size, but the right stick is far more leftwards.  maybe putting the stick over the buttons would've helped if they're on the same level, but there's only so much room to work with.

I haven't been in a game situation where the size of the face buttons created a problem, but it goes without saying that bigger will probably end up being better. Placement of buttons right next to the right analog bugs me a *lot* though.

seeing as i'm using my vita predominately as a psp emulator these days, my x button is getting a hell of a work out and feels looser compared to the rest of my buttons.  it's a very minor difference but one that bothers me more and more as i play the vita.

Random review of Disgaea three. Interesting tidbit in bold.

Quote from: PhantomOfTheKnight
First review: 9.5/10

http://www.justpushstart.com/2012/04/disgaea-3-absence-of-detention-review/

Also states that owners of the 3G model will get a higher Honor Quotient than WiFi owners.

Regardless of what that means, I think this is the first documented attempt of offering in-game exclusivity to the 3G model. Up until this point, it was 3G supported features and modes. I hope it doesn't turn into a trend, but if it did, I'm covered lol.

Another great feature included is GPS functionality (for 3G/Wi-fi PS Vita owners) that essentially tracks how far you travel while you are physically playing the game, and translates the distance into an in-game stat boost called “Honor Quotient.” Your Honor Quotient can still be increased by defeating monsters and clearing stages, so you Wi-fi PS Vita users can also take advantage of this new stat feature.

sounds like a reward for shamelessly playing disgea in public

whoops, brain spasm.  Sony goes up Wednesday morning for me here, which is Tuesday night in the US, yeah.  I was thinking of Nintendo and App Store there.  Sorry!

PSN used to update on Thursdays, but years back switched to Tuesday.  Don't know if it was to be on the day most games release or to undercut the Xbox.

Been playing Hot Shots Golf on and off.  Got to the 4th course and was having a little trouble with the starter moe moe gal with no power, so I changed to CHINA MUSCLE BUILDER CHANG and demolished that course with my 270 yard shots.  Game is so great.  So much fun in calculating where the ball with land and how it will roll after landing.  Almost got my first hole in one where the ball landed and rolled right over the hole because it was moving too fast.  So close!

4th Course (Italy?) is pretty crazy though.  Lots of up/down/left/right curving terrain and obstacles everywhere.  Good times.

Because the 10k magical barrier ever meant anything @_@

But yeah, Vita is fucked.  For sure.  It always has been unless it gets a price cut + some killer software in Japan.  The next generation of Nintendo only handhelds is going to suck.  Playing my PSP-3000 again after playing my 3DS, the PSP still blows the shit out of the 3DS.  It's bad enough to be 1 generation behind, but to lose to the previous generation handheld in visual quality & audio quality is a total joke.

the sad truth is the vita was doa the second it was announced.  it takes a lot more than just videogames to make a handheld device nowadays, and sony isn't capable enough to make a competitive tablet or phone.  also like oscar said, the biggest market for handhelds was always children, and you can buy lots of cheap devices for kids to do just that.  there is no market for the things, especially not for something that would require such high-budget games.

i see them making a final "big games" push at some point, then tossing their hands up and going down the path of smaller stuff like mutant blobs and escape plan

they won't outright kill it, at least not in the near future - instead they'll likely start marketing it as a high-end component of the ps4, a sister accessory

i still think there's somewhat of a market for more "adult" handheld titles, 13-15 year old boys like gore and shooting shit just as much as any frathouse rat

but it ain't gonna open up at a $270 entry price
