They should just announce things when they are ready to announce them.

This whole announcement of an announcement thing backfired on them badly with VITA RISE TO HEAVEN because it hyped everyone up for some amazing announcement and it was less than that.  This is going to be the same thing.  Whereas if they had just announced the game as is, people might've been "oh, hey that looks kind of neat".  When will they learn.

Vita Game Heaven was actually pretty good for what it was. Sony announced like 6 new games there (Phantasy Star Online 2, Super Robot Wars, Inafune game, Discovery Project, and the two Game Arts games - yes I know 3 of those are basically announcing a logo), and a tonne of new DLC/updates for games but of course Duckroll gave everyone the impression that it was literally nothing outside of PSO2 and dates for MGS: HD and Persona 4: The Golden. In terms of announcements it was greater than any Nintendo Direct, but the presentation style of just posting up a bunch of Youtube videos was laughably stupid.

Given this is an actual physical press conference, unlike Vita Game Heaven where it was always advertised as a web release-only I imagine this game is important to Sony.

It was pretty much as Bebs said, though.  Yes, "for what it was", it was fine, but they hyped it as something far bigger than "what it was".  Right down to the name even.  When the people of the realm are starving, you don't announce YE DELICIOUS FEASTE and then hand out Tic Tacs and wonder why everyone is giving you the stink-eye.

The fact that it was a webcast should've tempered expectations in my opinion. Sony's never going to reveal a Final Fantasy, or Monster Hunter game (should they exist) in an event where the press are not at hand. Game Heaven did leave a lot of people disappointed, but the fact that both this Soul Sacrifice game, and Miku were announced just weeks after it should help alleviate the fears that Sony showed everything. Miku is an interesting situation, since the game is coming out this summer, yet they gave another SEGA game top billing. Yes, Miku is coming to PS3 too, but PSO2 is on PC, and at least Miku is launching on Vita first. I guess SEGA felt it would hurt Project Mirai or something.

Sony called a press conference for this Soul Sacrifice game and if it ends up being a Monster Hunter clone by Matrix Software that barely looks better than a PSP game than that's where I'd say "What are they doing?", haha.

the more i play ssx the more i am bewildered why some version of it isn't available for the vita

the courses only last about 4 minutes max, that's a perfect length for portable gaming

they wouldn't have had to port the full version, just a few of the mountains and riders, then pop it on psn for 10 bucks (it would have even fit right in with their insidious love for dlc, via rider/mountain in-game purchases)

To be fair, EA hasnt even formally "announced" any of their fall sports titles yet.

I'm just surprised there wasn't a Tiger Woods on it.

and SSX is weird considering SSX On Tour was on psp

Pretty sure if I ran SEGA and everyone actually listened I could make them money AND restore some e-cred

Sega's one of the better Japanese pubs this gen. Simply having Platinum on lock is a huge boost. Plus not having released any super crappy Sonic games in a while has boosted their rep a bit.

Platinum? Those guys making games for Konami and who SEGA has vowed never to publish again? (At least in the west)

Oh, I fully expect their main sports games.  I wonder if they'll try NHL again?  Probably not, that was pretty disastrous on PSP.

Surprised by the lack of Tiger, the lack of SSX, the lack of Need for Speed especially, lack of Burnout... they were super bullish on the PSP right from launch, and they hung in there longer than most Western publishers.  It's weird to see them playing it so safe on a non-Nintendo launch.

How poorly did NHL 07 do on PSP? I loved the game and always wanted another entry  :( I wasn't alone either, since there's an active community who still edits rosters so that players can download the save data and have current players.

I remember seeing new copies of NHL 07 on store shelves in like early 2009. I live in Canada so that's probably not a good sign.

FIFA is a nice game also. Hopefully next version will be a little better.

Nah, he said gamer cred AND money.  Given they're doing the stuff you mentioned already with neither e-cred nor money to show for it, it's obviously not the best plan.

Well better than extorting all that money. :lol

The only reason I didn't buy FIFA was because I sucked at it. The graphics were nice, and the game was fun. I really liked the ability to shoot with the back touch pad. It felt pretty natural.

It could be up Friday. I believe they've done that before as to not break UK (who releases games on Friday IIRC) street date.

The problem is that I rarely can get in close. The defense usually takes possession whenever I enter the penalty area.

I wonder if From is involved in some capacity.  Even if it's just asset creation or whatever.  It might be a collaboration.  But if that's the case - why not use the Demon's Souls brand?  Unless that would be kind of stepping on From's toes considering that Dark Souls is a sequel to Demon's in every way but legal technicalities.

Paint Park needs an online multiplayer mode. Sony shouldn't be pulling a Nintendo and being afraid people might send pictures of their penis drawings. People will find a way to do that anyways.

I'm sure it's not a Demon Souls/Dark Souls From Soft game.

It's Sony trying to copy the success of DS & Monhun and combine them into a single game.

I don't even know why people are putting stock into that rumor, if it was even one to begin with. It always sounded like a thought one delirious Souls fan came with and everyone ran with. It feels like an unlikely collaboration to me, especially after the success From enjoyed by releasing a more recognizable style of game on HD consoles. Why risk it and waste time, if you ask me.

Either way, from the released material (which I'm digging), I'm not picking up on any From aesthetics. Unless they're from their pre-Souls games.

Orgarhythm:

It's from a studio formed by a former SEGA programmer who worked on Shenmue among other things. His name is Tak Hirai IIRC.

Speaking of SEGA, what an interesting way to market a Monkey Ball game...

Amusement Vision said their goal was to make a more challenging Monkey Ball game, since they feel the PlayStation audience is better suited for that. It releases this summer around the world.

Takao - NHL07 wasn't an out-and-out disaster, but it sold basically about as well as a Gamecube version of an EA Sports game.  I suppose that wasn't enough for EA, cuz we never saw another.

Has EA Montreal shrunk in size? I noticed they were the studio behind the SSX, Army of Two, and NHL PSP titles.

Yeah, my bad.  I five-star'd or golded or whatever all the stages in SMB1 & 2 back in the day.  Some of the best games ever.  But it's been a while.  Gave up on the series when the DS and Wii games were PoS.  I just remembered the controls being all kinds of terrible on the DS one because of the d-pad and the Wii one because of the tilt controls.  Still could be good on Vita with a decent analog stick unless it forces you to use tilt in which case it will be the next SMB game with terrible controls.
