MGS HD (lie) collection is supposedly sub-native res and runs at 60 fps.  Makes sense for MGS3, but not so much for MGS2.

I should mention that I didn't mean it as a negative for MGS3.  For sure it seemed like MGS3 would revert to 30 fps.  60 at a lower resolution is a fine compromise there.

If it and Gravity Daze weren't coming out on the same day, I might've been tempted to pick it up.  I like that it shares saves with the PS3 HD Collection.

No one should buy monkey ball unless they've played and beaten the demo first.

Monkey Ball is next week - but so is Persona...

this is another one of those times where I'd prefer EDF2 in HD and smooth frame rate over porting the 360 game.  also because EDF2 is better than EDF2017.  or they could just add pale wing and make it better.

also, reports of 60fps MGS HD collection were false.  Seems like both aren't native res, MGS3 is 30fps, and MGS2 jumps between 30 and 60fps depending on the scene (VR missions are 60 fps).

I think EDF2 was ported to regular ass PSP in Japan? Putting 2017 on Vita makes sense since it was a 360 game initially and nobody in Japan has a 360.

And this happened because it wasn't worth spending Bluepoint money on some Vita game, so they got a less experienced studio to port them.

Interestingly Bluepoint is handling the Vita port of PlayStation All-Stars. IIRC wasn't the studio who ported MGS to Vita made up of former Retro people?

So are Vita hardware sales up now because of P4?

Used MGSHD PS3, it is.

That should have been obvious from the get-go-- the lack of Peace Walker HD on the Vita version sucks.  And no, Konami, it being on PSP doesn't make a difference- 60FPS and real analog stick support for the camera would have been nice.

I only got the "HD" Collection for Vita 'cuz Best Buy had a trade in deal going on.  Dumped some old stuff I didn't care about and got the game.  Haven't tried it yet but figured if nothing else MGS3 is better on Vita than its on 3DS.   :P

And also, hurray, someone finally removed the "PSP2" from the title!

Got tired of seeing it!

I've been patiently waiting for a portable P4 and will definitely be buying it.  As someone who doesn't go for JRPGs, I spent a good bit of time on Persona 3 Portable and liked the way it played.  Will probably never finish it, but that's okay.

Eh, they aren't for everyone.  I'm not even a huge fan like some people and I think the series is overrated in terms of megaten.  But they're good games with good stories and good character development + great megaten battles.

How could you play P4 and not finish it?  It's a murder mystery.  Don't you want to find out who the culprit is?

i got really annoyed on the penultimate dungeon (usual atlus shit, monster exploding in your face getting insta game over and such) and then i just spoiled myself the rest on the internet

besides i wouldn't really call it a murder mystery, nobody really seems to care about "who did it" as much as "we have to save the next character until we run out of playable character" when the plot happens and wacky slice of life shit when the plot doesn't happen, actualy that's a pretty good comparison

P3/P4 = Slice of life anime

in fact there is even less mystery than there is in P3,in P3 you got these weird monster, this mysterious hour where everybody freeze, this weird tower... in P4 there is a murderer on the loose and... that's it,there aren't any suspect,no evidence, the plot moves forward simply because there are more "victims" and the victims are the focus but the game never seems to give a rat ass about who's doing it until near the end

now i know that not having finished the game this might come of as pretentious but...

spoiler (click to show/hide)
the plot twist seems kind of pointless, like the only reason it happens is because they tought "dude! plot twists are cool!" there is no reason or evidence for him to be the murderer nor does it change much in the story, does it matter if the villain is some random minor NPC you know about instead of some random minor NPC you don't know about?

this feeling actualy doubled when i heard that after finishing the game, there is a bonus dungeon where it turns out that the first NPC you meet is actualy a.... god? what the heck? what's next? the fridge in your house is actualy an alien? there is no point in this
[close]

my megaten listing for PS2 megaten:

SMT3 > DDS2 > Raidou 2 > P3 > P4 > DDS1 > Raidou 1

yes SMT3 is awesome, which is why i liked strange journey,it was the closest they got to SMT3,the rest of the megaten games are "meh"

raidou premise is super cool but the game is choke full of fetch quest and annoying bits, raidou 2 fixes this and that but ends up recycling a lot of the material of the original and ends up feeling more of the same

DDS... i hate the ability system, the thing that i like in SMT3 is that you have to adapt as you keep playing, you have to introduce new demons in your party to keep up in strenght but at the same time, you have to be carefull to have the right demon for the jobs, but when i can just handpicks the ability i want all of this just get thrown in the garbage,i also really hate the fact that your SP don't get stored yet at the same time each skill set cost money so you have to keep paying for new skill sets

also i know that the whole point was to have a more story focused game but even that feels wrong,in SMT3 you got all these character with their own philosophies and in DDS everyone is a walking caricature, there is this girl with pink hairs and a tear tattoo under her eyes that spends every single line of her dialogue going "buuhuu killing is wrong,i don't want to kill : ' (" it's like watching the power ranger but without the explosions

yes DDS is probably the worst megaten games so the ranking would go

SMT3 > P3/P4 > Raidou1/2 > DDS

P3's story was distinguished mentally-challenged.  The gameplay was pretty fun up to 75% and then it got tedious.  The combat got boring because there just aren't enough variation in new personas to get the really cool combinations.

i tried playing the original SMT1 and SMT2 but they really show their old jrpg pedigree with their super obtuse UI and encounter rate which would drive a zen monk crazy

i think i snapped in SMT1 when one of my character got poisoned and at every step, the screen flashed with the most blinding-like variety of green, like at a certain point i started to think that was the actual ailment and that the lose of HP was just a way to make me understand that i should remove it instead of the other way around

It's interesting to see that the megaten tastes are all over the place.  Some people like magus HATE "final fantasy 10 meets megaten" which is DDS; whereas other's dig it.  Some love modern Persona, some prefer the old Persona games.  Raidou is all over the place.  About the only constant is that SMT3 is fucking awesome.

It's probably why Atlus need to keep regular spinoff series to appease their fanbase from all angles.
