Ys Vita is out September 27th in Japan.  Don't think Xseed mentioning any plans to localize it.  Ys 7 came out about a year after the Japanese release and Oath was a few months.

Last time they showed the game was close to a year ago.  I thought it'd be canceled and moved to PSP/3DS.

Falcom said they weren't showing it because the original reveal was too early, everyone made fun of their extremely early alpha version graphics, and so they were afraid to show the game again until it looked like a proper HD game and not some psp title.  The only reason they showed it early was to let people know they were seriously backing the Vita pre-launch.

I'm hoping/expecting the visuals to blow Nayuta no Kiseki away.  Really wanna see the new scans.

I vaguely remember playing a bit of the first one from the PS2 collection a few years ago, but literally gave away my PS2 and games to a friend a couple of days after I bought it (I'd just bought a PS3). I cannot recall if I was enjoying it, or anything about it. The little time I spent left no impression whatsoever on me.

Some PSP games are on sale.  I picked up the Power Stone Collection so I can sort of make it my portable Dreamcast when JSR comes out.

Only messing around with the first game of the two, it seems like a solid port.  Runs really well, has proper horizontally extended widescreen (and options to play 4:3 or stretched 4:3), and some other improvements.

So how's Gravity Rush?  I haven't popped it in yet.

A little half-baked but great.  Feels like an Assassin's Creed or ZoE where a sequel could wrangle all the ideas into a really well designed complete game.  It's probably the most amazed I've been playing a portable game since GTA on the PSP.  Just controlling gravity and messing around in the world is a ton of fun even if the game doesn't do a whole lot with it.

Doesn't the Vita port use the revised control scheme like the subsistence editions?

MGS3 does.  It doesn't use the MGS4/Peace Walker/MGS3 3DS controls that are more like other games.  The PS2 games are some of the few games that used the analog buttons so it's unusual to play if you're accustomed to modern controls.  The 360/Vita version try to make that work with regular digital buttons.

from reading gaf it seems the way firing a gun works is: hold R, hold square to ready weapon, release button to fire weapon -or- press down on the d-pad to put weapon away, aim with left stick.  I don't think right stick does anything in MGS2.  In MGS3 it controls camera.

Yeah, I don't really see Falcom games made for psp being ported to other systems (yes, I know they outsourced a chinese company to make a chinese version of Zero no Kiseki for PC).  Falcom is not going to spend the time to port/rebuild a game on a totally new platform.

Plus one day Himuro will get a Vita, so it's all good.

Maybe if Sony stops treating it like the red headed step child and like an actual product, I will get a vita. It all depends on the next few months and what games are announced for the system. I'm not like you people who buy 300 dollar systems with no games and then bitch where the games are at. I've only done that once and with the Wii.

I said on the gaf thread that yeah, the bump in HW was too low.  Vita has a price problem.  For sure.  No game, despite how much demand there is for it, will push the Vita past 40k weekly in 2012 because that is the max sales you can get out of $250 portable.  In August Miku will probably give it a 40k bump, in September Ys4r might give it a 30k bump, and depending on the lineup in Oct/Nov they might have more bumps as well (such as Zero no Kiseki DC).  But between those bump weeks it'll go back down to about 10-20k and a bunch of 15k weeks with a 30-40k once a month is still really shitty.

They need to take the loss and drop it a full $100.  At $150 the Vita would be flying off the shelfs, especially in August/Sept when more games are coming out.  The problem is Sony is slow and careful.  I'm sure the first price drop (if it even comes in 2012) will be like $30-50 off making it $200-$220.  Which is still going to be too much I think if they want to catch up to the 3DS in popularity.

TGS will be interesting though.  In August/Sept you should start to see the Oct/Nov/Dec lineup for the Vita and then at TGS you should see the Q1/Q2 2013 lineup for the Vita.  If the Vita dies, those are going to be the final games for the system.  If they announce some good titles during those months Vita has a chance, but they need to price drop before those hit.  If I were Sony, for each major game I would do a new color, bundle, and for the first set of major games I would time a price drop along with the release date.

Maybe if Sony stops treating it like the red headed step child and like an actual product, I will get a vita. It all depends on the next few months and what games are announced for the system. I'm not like you people who buy 300 dollar systems with no games and then bitch where the games are at. I've only done that once and with the Wii.

Yeah, I agree.  I'm going by the optimistic assumption that the library will continue to grow and get good jrpgs and the type of games you enjoy.
