My friend recently bought a vita and called it a shit box and that sony were crooks because it wasnt backwards compatible and had no games(he likes rpgs like me).
Er-There's
Persona 1
Persona 2: IS
Persona 3: Portable
Suikoden (okay, this one isn't available in America or Europe)
Disgaea 1
Disgaea 2
Final Fantasy Tactics (granted, not the best port but...)
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together
Final Fantasy 1
Final Fantasy 2
Final Fantasy 3
Final Fantasy 4
...
...
...
etc. on PSN right now (Okay, FF3 isn't out yet but it's coming) and there's more on PSX as well if he has/hasn't played them like Front Mission 3, Parasite Eve, Wild Arms...?
I can't fault him for thinking it's a "scam" because of having to rebuy and be at the mercy of Sony/licensors for RPG's to be put on the system but if there's one thing the Vita has, it's (some of) the PSP's back catalogue of JRPGs, the ONE thing it had as a claim to fame.
(Unless he likes WRPG's only, in which case safely ignore my point because the PSP never had any of those and the only decent WRPG on the Vita so far is that Diablo clone from Gameloft of all people)

Is he right?
Is Jim Sterling ever right? No.
Except in certain cases he is in this case. The fact that Sony's 1st party titles like Wipeout 2098 (or whatever the Vita title is) has dropped in price in retail stores but hasn't dropped in price in over a month after that price-drop on PSN is absolutely ridiculous and people are gonna go with the cheaper/faster option in general. Not gonna drop your DD service's prices to be competitive with retail or have sales? People are gonna go physical. Hey, that's great and all but you
may not see a dime of that cash. And hell, if people wait longer and the Vita gets cracked they may just go around Sony's carts and PSN because Sony has to be absolutely a pain in the ass in wanting to give them money.
I love the Vita hardware but the fact I can't get Uncharted: Golden Abyss digitally for less than $30 (more like $20-25 for me) right now is stupid. The fact that Wipeout Vita is $30-40 (forgetting the price currently) on PSN versus retail is stupid.
Then add in the DRM schemes and issues of having to deactivate physically in the hardware itself instead of remotely --Good luck managing your two handheld slots if your Vita dies and you have another Vita tied to that account-- into the mix and well...
Throw in proprietary memory cards that cost 2x as much as one of your games digitally for max storage space if you want to go the digital route and well....
