I liked COD 1-3, MW1 because it was so different at the time, WaW, and Black Ops. To me they're like a Universal Studios ride where they give you a gun when you buy your ticket. Totally forgettable for the most part - I can go back and play them and not remember much of anything about previous playthroughs. I used to prefer Battlefield to COD in MP, because you could play your role and still have fun without being a pinpoint killing machine, but they have COD'ed that up to the point where it's not as fun to me as it used to be.

I like the WWII setting. Everyone got tired of it because they used the same set pieces over and over again. If you got your history from WWII FPS games you'd think WWII was only fought in France, Russia, and Germany. There were tons of other settings and battles which could have been explored, but devs and pubs stuck to Normandy forever with only a couple of memorable exceptions.

A WWI battlefield game would be pretty boss, fighting in fokkers and using those early tank prototypes. It wasn't all trench warfare.

Why are you looking forward to the Call of Duty game?  It looks pretty bad.

I just wrote a list of all the games I have any kind of interest in.  I got Resistance Vita for the multi and it was...OK.  I now know to lower my expectations to the lowest point for CoD.  If it's not complete shit and is at least better than Resistance I'll get it.   You'd think there would be tons of FPS and TPS games on the Vita and 3DS...but instead it's like everything comes out for iOS.

bork's a big call of duty fan.

I buy 'em for the multi and treat those games as yearly expansion packs.  Not a huge fan but I enjoy playing with my friends.

I don't want to sound like i'm upset by it, just that i don't care. I'll still likely plod through them but there's no real reason to do it. In fact... i think i'm done. I've no interest in BLOPS2. In the unlikely event the Vita version doesn't chew on a mouth full of camel dick and theres a meaty bot mode thats better than anything else i -might- try it but i just can't see it.

I've only played CoD from Modern Warfare onward.  Played MW1, MW2, Black Ops, and MW3.  Like MW1 and Black Ops the best.  MW3 was disappointing and I ended up buying BLOPS back again.  I'm going to get BLOPS2 but if Halo 4 MP is good that may be a waste.

PC and Vita players play together as well. iOS/Android peeps are in their own sandbox.

But with DQX, this time it will be different!

And of course I'm interested in series that move off my consoles. I watched all the RE5 cutscenes on YouTube you know!

(This proved to be a really stupid idea since the RE plot is pants-on-head and the gameplay is what got me into loving the series.)

I've said like a billion times Pokemon is the exception.

I don't know why. I can't explain it.

But other turn-based RPGs are grind city or feel like they take forever to get going. I also really fricking hate random encounters with a burning passion.

Somehow Pokemon makes it palletable. (Avoid the grass and use repels, hey oh.)

I *would* call Pokemon a grind in a way closer to the word's meaning outside of gamer vernacular, in that it feels dull, repetitive, and meaningless to play.

Nah, pulling an Andrex isn't suddenly becoming interested in something just because it's on your platform (if that was the case, Andrex wouldn't dislike DQ, and he really dislikes DQ), it's not being interested in further installments in a series you enjoyed just because they aren't on your platform.

I'd describe the former more as Hero of Legenditis.

Oh, in that case if I like Liberation I'll probably play the other ones.

Yeah, I wouldn't call Pokemon a grind in the sense that we usually use it with RPGs (which is to say, a dungeon or boss is unfairly difficult and requires you to stop progressing and fight random battles repeatedly to earn xp and/or gold).  Pokemon games are pretty easy to clear without any grinding.

I *would* call Pokemon a grind in a way closer to the word's meaning outside of gamer vernacular, in that it feels dull, repetitive, and meaningless to play.  And naturally, catchinemall is pretty grindy, but that's like getting 1000/1000 or a Platinum - if you choose to subject yourself to that, that's your defect.   :lol

It is only that way because the animations take so long.  I remember pokemon red blue and green, so much quicker the battles.

I'm not really into the AC series but I think having a black female as a lead character is a pretty cool move. You hardly ever see black girls in games (there's Alex in Half Life but she's more blasian I think, Elena in SF3, Vanessa in VF, one of the kids in Bebe's Kids, the Williams sisters in tennis games, and uhh...)

It's also that way because they keep, for all intents and purposes, remaking the same game again and again.  From what I hear Black and White finally shook things up a little, but A) that took 13 years and B) they're right back to fucking the dog again with BW2.

"From what I hear," you're seriously pulling this Oscar?

Black and White are blazing when you turn animation off. :o Lots of stuff happens in parallel now too like the weather crap. :bow Best JRPG battle system. :bow2

It's sadly a bit of a necessary outcome.  The games have considerable depth if you opt to dig for it, and they have a lot of adult fans, but the bread and butter of each installment's sales are children, so the games have to keep things appropriate for their level, which doesn't leave a lot of room to do anything interesting.

"Not a lot of room" isn't what I'd call the entire postgame/Battle Frontier stuff. That is pretty blatantly targeted at the hardcore players. And they introduce helpful hardcore tweaks every game, which was surprising to me.

did anyone crack the mystery of why Handdregs hates all turnbased RPGs except for Nintendo's big banner turnbased handheld rpg yet?

Roughly speaking, there are about ten to fifteen million other people like him, judging by sales of Pokemon vs the next highest turn-based RPG, so I have to believe there's something in the water there other than it just being Nintendo.  If it were just that it's Nintendo, I'd expect him to bonar for the various Mario RPGs and Fire Emblem, and I don't think he likes those, either.

Paper Mario was so boring. :( Good humor though.

SRPGs like FE interest me even less than normal turn based JRPGs.

I thought I'd mention it in this thread since Takao will surely see this.

Saban bought the Digimon anime.

Quote
Saban Brands confirmed on Tuesday that it has acquired the Digimon anime franchise outside of Asia. Saban noted that it will work with MarVista Entertainment to distribute the series outside of Asia. Toei Animation will handle licensing and distribution of the franchise in Asia.

Saban "will debut the newest season, Digimon Fusion," to potential broadcasters and distributors at the MIPCOM event in Cannes, France on October 8-11. Digimon Xros Wars premiered in Japan in 2010, and its follow-up Digimon Xros Wars: Toki o Kakeru Shōnen Hunter-tachi premiered last October. Neither of these television series have aired in North America yet, but Crunchyroll streamed the first series and simulcast the second series as it aired in Japan.

Saban Entertainment's Fox Family Worldwide distributed the first Digimon Adventure anime series in North America in 1999, just months after its debut in Japan.

New Video Group is slated to release the complete first season of Digimon Adventure on DVD on October 9. Twentieth Century Fox and Buena Vista Home Entertainment both previously released part of the series on DVD in 2000 and 2002, respectively.

Of course, being one of PlayStation's top executives, his opinion is just slightly biased. But he openly admitted that developer apprehension towards the Vita was unexpected. "One thing that was surprising and disappointing to us was the [lower] number of third parties to come out [in support] after launch.

"...In retrospect, there are so many options for publishers now that we cannot take it for granted that our new platform would be supported by third parties, like [it would've been] many years ago."

Sony's biggest problem is that they failed to let people know that the Vita even existed.  You had the Taco Bell campaign and that was it.  No hype, no advertising other than that Taco Bell promotion deal, Sony just kind of dropped it off and let it fend for itself, which in a world that has iOS and to a far lesser extent Android, was an extremely stupid thing to do.  Which is par for the course for Sony.  That is why I question why people think PS4 is going to turn it all around: Sony has been fucking things up for six years now and even if the console is a fine piece of kit, Sony could fuck up a cup of coffee.

The Vita is being killed off by Sony's utter incompetence.  When the device's manufacturer is doing its best to make sure it is dead, that hardly inspires confidence from third parties, many of whom are teetering on the brink of financial problems.  Why spend a million or two on something that sells 10,000 copies?

Pretty much.

And while Nintendo gets shitted on constantly at least that move they did with the 3ds showed that they want that thing to live and will do what is needed.

SCEA said the lack of pre-release Vita marketing was due to them switching marketing firms. I believe they switched marketing firms, I just don't believe that the advertising would've been any more wide spread if they hadn't.
