They could have spent a billion dollars marketing the thing in the US and it wouldn't have changed the outcome.

The Vita has many problems, but problem Alpha is that it is a product for a market that does not exist.  You can't market your way out of that.  SCEA was handed a sure-failure product for their market.  Not throwing good money after bad by marketing was probably the smartest thing they've done with the Vita.

But what about the 3DS? That was a big pile of crap that even Andrex didn't want, but Nintendo just kept pushing that turdburger on an unwilling market until finally we all said OKAY WE'LL BUY ONE, GEEZ!

the other big issue is how Sony handle their own first parties. It's a case of "so - are you going to make a Vita game? No? Oh... okay"

That's a huge difference - if you don't have -most- your 1st party teams hammering out games then how the hell do you convince 3rd parties that you mean seriuz bisznuts?

Nintendo do this - it's a massive statement of intent from both sides.

Back to LBP now that it's officially out and the network component is up and running.  Some of the outfits I bought on PSN don't work on the Vita version.  No Street Fighter Sackboy for me.   :(

Sony's PlayStation Vita will receive a price cut next year, according to Sony UK boss Fergal Gara.

The executive confirmed at the Eurogamer Expo that a price reduction is coming in 2013, but precisely when it will be introduced is "still under discussion".

Wouldn't it make sense to do this for the holiday season?   :lol

Little King's Story should be decent. I mean you cant screw that up right?

And that Zero Escape should be good. Even though I feigned hatred to it, I want to play that one.

It's definitely a problem, and I don't know if Sony doesn't see how the game is played or just doesn't want to play it.  Like, taking Nintendo as an example, Tokyo EAD made a 3DS game.  Hey, that's the Super Mario Galaxy guys!  Making a 3DS game!  Awesome!

Was it the same staff as Mario Galaxy?  Was it even most of the staff?  I don't think so.  A few key people and fill out the rest with whoever.  At the end of the day, you can still say it was Tokyo EAD.

You don't have to take all of the Uncharted 2 guys and have them make an Uncharted game for the thing.  But put together a smaller B-team within ND (hey, the Uncharted 3 guys are already this), have a few key people supervise, and now you can say "Yes, Naughty Dog made an Uncharted game for the Vita."  That's a much more powerful symbol than "Uncharted, from the makers of those good PSP games almost nobody played!"But if we sat here picking at obvious problems in Sony's judgement, we'd be here all day.  Their engineers delivered above and beyond with the Vita.  More the pity the rest of the company couldn't be arsed to even half-try.

I'm baffled they didn't do this in the fucking first place and let Sony Bend do their own thing or even get some ND guys/some Bend guys as a hybrid team but place the ND guys at the forefront.

Its even more hilarious since comments from ND claimed that one of the reasons they did last of us is to keep their employees challenged but yet couldn't make a fucking game for a new handheld  :lol

It depends on how much they'd be losing with the price drop.  Probably better for the system's long-term future to drop before the holidays, which is really what they should worry about if they aren't planning on writing it off next year.  If they aren't considering the long-term future, then it's better to reap the holiday sales at the higher price.
They're relaunching early next year with a drop to 199 and PSO2/SS/GE2 etc.  Book it.  In the west, a price drop with a CoD/AC or UC bundle? idk

Yea official quotes painted the picture of it being dead but rumors still swirled about a PS3 version.

I think Bend doing a Uncharted game could have been seen as the final nail in the coffin though

The biggest issue with Lumines is the long play sessions. You need to play for 30 minutes before it gets challenging. I wish they added something similar to Super Stardust's endless mode.

Sony(John Koller) has a solution...10 year life-cycle
Quote
“We’re in year one, so we’ll be supporting it for some time. But yeah, it does have its own 10-year life cycle. All of our platforms do… it’s a marathon, not a sprint. We expect long-term success from all our platforms.”

Koller is one of those really bad spin doctors you thought Sony laid off but haven't. I'm pretty sure he once said PSP was experiencing year over year growth in North America ... in 2010. Ignore what that man says.

Back to Syphon Filter, supposedly Garvin once said even Resistance: Retribution outsold the PSP iterations of SF. That's not say Resistance: Retribution is a bad game (because it's not, and it did some things online wise that we've yet to see anyone attempt to do on Vita) but it's pretty sad to see their own IP be outsold by Insomniac's generic shooter franchise.

And yeah, I agree that SCE should've forced Naughty Dog to make a Vita game. What Oscar has been saying (the small team dedicated towards handheld development while a big team works on console games) is what Media Molecule is doing right now. Tearaway is being developed by a smaller team within that studio while the rest are presumably working on a new IP for PS4. But Media Molecule wasn't forced to do that do, from what the people there said they wanted to make a handheld game, and it seems SCE's big studios will only work on a handheld title if they want to ...

Didn't stop people caring about the Vanillaware games on PS2.  Muramasa is also probably the best thing they put out, though that's probably not saying all that much.
I think it will look great on the Vita and they'll probably fix the controls too so hey.

Whereas I quickly dropped Odin Sphere, I thought Muramasa was fun enough on the Wii to play through Kisuke's story.  I'll replay it on Vita for Momohime's story at the least, and yeah...maybe they will improve the controls a bit (which were decent with the classic controller).

I'm way more interested in Dragon's Crown...if that ever comes out.

Yea since a software now exists that gives access to PSP ISO loading on Vita but its still in the PSP "sandbox".

It also needs a specific game to run this exploit and Sony has already removed the game.

I'm sure it will be localized ... on 3DS.

They're just waiting for the TV show to get a US broadcast partner I suppose. They have toy license deals done for both EU and NA already. The problem was that the first game was on PSP, and releasing that in the west in 2012 and beyond is suicide. So they ported that to 3DS. The sequel however is PSP/Vita. I'm sure Level-5 and Tri-Ace will also be porting that to 3DS, lol.

The reviews for Monkey Ball Vita were alright. It appear it's not an amazing game by any means but no where near as offensively bad as the 3DS one was.  It's received a lot of 6/7/8s.

It's $30 so at least SEGA had some semblance of a brain to not try to charge $40 for a game no one really wants *cough*Konami*cough*
