It's sub-native res, but just because it is doesn't mean it won't look great on a Vita. Uncharted, and Gravity Rush both are and both are great looking.

Sure,I have no problem with PSP games on PSP too.

But low res is not really a problem, plently of much bigger problems here--isn't this device supposed to have free AA,PowerVR tiled rendering durr durrr

Yeah, pre-launch the only thing I was counting on was decent IQ thanks to the screen res and "allegedly" free 4xMSAA. But now everyone is realizing that the norm set for this platform is the exact opposite, especially with respect to resolution. It did set a precedent for sub-res games on handhelds, but it sure popularized it! Sub-res PSP games were extremely few and far between.

Basically nobody gives a shit about this system.

Every game from Vita's birth to Death will be sub-native it seems sadly.  What the fuck was the point of releasing Vita with a screen at a resolution that games won't run at smoothly?  We could have just had a screen at these 500p resolutions and it would be sharp and awesome looking.  Instead we get blown-up, blurry, pixel-fest on every game and they all look like shit in IQ.  I'd rather play most PSP games than Vita games just because PSP games are sharp and detailed while Vita games are blurry.  Ys Seven PSP >>> Ys Celceta Vita visually imo.

LittleBigPlanet is subnative but still looks great due to AA. I don't know why a lot of these games are looking this way. I blamed early titles on the fact that most were developed on PS3 hardware initially but at this point? Ehh.

Some people have ACIII Liberation early.

Quote
After playing a while last night, it looks like the single player campaign is a fully fledged "big console" campaign. Main story, side missions, collectables, weapons, inventory, pickpocketing, etc... Plenty of things to do.
The world feels alive and populated. Sometimes you'll see more than 20 civilians on screen at once, in other zones it will feel more deserted: it just feels right. It's more than people walking directionless. There are plenty of animations like dogs scratching their backs, leaves falling, dust, people working in the street. There is plenty of attention to detail.
Parcouring has many different animations, zones where you can climb, vistas, etc... I like the jump button. It is not needed when parcouring, it is used to enlarge the movements Aveline can do.
Multiplayer still not active, so i can't tell you. There are near goodies.
There are some framerate dips. For the most sensitive of you, this could be a problem. It's not for me.
The only negative for me, is the compression of audio. The OS is excellent, voices, sounds and ambiental noises are well designed, but with compression they lack punch and the whole package feels less epic. Of course, this will mostly be appreciated if you play with headphones.
Definitely a must buy.

yeah, it's disappointing to hear that Ys is sub-native.

People are also saying Liberation is in the 20s performance wise.  That's sort of expected, I guess.  I played Assassin's Creed 2 on 360 and it didn't run well.  More than the resolution and frame rate, the animations don't look nearly as good as the console games.  But it's still impressive for what it is.  Sort of the GTA Liberty City Stories for the Vita.

I guess I'd rather developers prioritize certain things over others.  It'll always be a problem for consoles/handhelds.  On PC I tend to turn down/off stuff if needed.

I have the chance to trade Raban's 3DS XL for a Vita. Should I take the plunge?

I'll be real there's like, 2, maybe 3 games I'd want to play on this thing and the future looks absolutely dreadful for it.

I dunno.  Imagine there are no games coming at this point.  Is it worth it?

Uncharted is a good play if you like the series
Wipeout likewise
999-2 is better on Vita
YsIVr is alright if you liked Ys Seven and will probably be localized
Time Travelers is great but I don't think they're gonna bring it over
AC Liberation is looking like a good play if you like the franchise
LBP Vita is supposed to be the best one yet (I love LBP but haven't bought this one)

i borrowed shaka's vita and i still feel like i have buyers remorse. theres almost dick-all to play on it, and i guarantee you any game that a publisher invested any kind of money in (i.e. gravity rush, asscrud, and ys) will get ported next year.

If you want a Vita to play exclusive games, it isn't worth it.  Can't think of many future exclusives either.  Ys, Killzone and Tearaway are the few that come to mind, and I just had to use Killzone as a notable release.

It's worth it if you want to play multiplatform and PSP games on it.  But you don't need a Vita to play Most Wanted or Sound Shapes or w/e.

I only own three retail games (Shinobido 2, Gravity Daze, and Zero Escape).  Which, to be fair, is only one less than my 3DS, but if I'm playing my Vita, chances are I'm playing a PSP game.  And a lot of the usual franchise games like LBP and Wipeout and Mario Kart and whatever are probably good, but those don't do it for me.

also, Little King's Story Vita is a $40 digital only release in America.

Well Sho I checked at my game selling job for the fug of it and we currently have a whopping four different Vita titles in stock all of which are from launch :gloomy
As for worthwhile upcoming titles EDF 2017's port is out next year in the US so if you missed that on 360 you'd best not sleep on it a second time :gun

I agree...and I like having portable versions of my favorite console games, so it works for me.  Most of my favorite 3DS games are also ports or portable versions, too.

I have barely touched any PSP or PSX games on the Vita.  This is what I currently own/have installed on mine:

-Uncharted Golden Abyss
-Hot Shots Golf World International
-Wipeout 2048
-Dynasty Warriors Next
-Ridge Racer
-Shinobido 2
-Lumines Electronic Symphony
-Mortal Kombat
-Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3
-BlazBlue CS Extend
-Gravity Rush
-Metal Gear Solid HD
-Resistance Burning Skies
-Hatsune Miku Project Diva-f
-Little Big Planet Vita
-Street Fighter X Tekken
-Retro City Rampage

Will buy:

-ACIII Liberation
-Persona 4 The Golden
-Ragnarok Odyssey

Interested in:

-Virtua Tennis
-Need For Speed Most Wanted
-CoD Black Ops
-Sony Smash Bros.
-Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing (may get this on 3DS instead)

Out of those release games, I'd only call one mediocre (or even approaching crap...Resistance) and one a rip-off (Ridge Racer, due to Namco making you buy the rest of the game via DLC).

Also have a few PSP and PSX games on there.  It's a nice line-up and I can't complain about it; the Vita had a strong launch line up but it feels like releases have trickled out right up until now.

Yeah, yeah, VITA LOLOLOL and all that.  But I don't feel burned by it and play it all the time.

I do wish there were some good FPS games on Vita and/or 3DS.  Resistance is really all that's out there and nobody would be playing it if there were other games available.  Modern Combat 3 seemed pretty impressive on iOS, but iPhone touch controls on a game like that are garbage.

Black Ops Declassified is going to be poop. Don't bother. Vita's best (last?) FPS will be Killzone: Mercenary.

Virtua Tennis 4 is awesome though. Runs at 60fps and is native res. Looks beautiful too.

I'm not expecting much from Black Ops, but I am expecting it to be at least better than Resistance.   I hate that neither of the real handheld gaming consoles have a really good FPS to play.

Ass Creed's reviews are not as good as I was expecting. The better scores are coming from places that are comparing it within other handheld games, where the weaker ones are comparing it to console games and the game not living up to that standard. Impressions from non-reviewers seem a lot more positive. I dunno. I have some store credit that I might take the plunge. Some of the faults that reviewers are mentioning wouldn't be ones I'd notice since I'm not really familiar enough with the console entries to compare.

I think it's plenty fair to compare it directly to AC1,2,B,R since it's pretty much trying to be the same type of game, just on a handheld.  I'll definitely be comparing it to them.  I mean it's not like those are even high bars.  R was a pretty mediocre 6 or 7/10 AC game.  If Liberation can't be at least as good as Revelations it'll be worth trashing.

The game's location seems to be scaled down a bit for the Vita, but it still seems fair to compare it to the console versions to me too.  Unlike the PSP AC, there's nothing really missing in Liberation that I'm seeing except for riding horses (and perhaps this is in the game too?).  It's definitely more a side-story, however; the Animus stuff is there, but the game presents itself as if you are an anonymous user using the Animus software to check out the main character's story.  It's pretty quick to get started, unlike ACIII, which I think is a good thing considering the platform.

Kind of, but there's smaller enemies to take out in missions, too.  The big problem I've read is that you level up from completing missions...so while you don't have to grind as much, from the sound of it, it means there's no real reason to kill all the enemies in a mission.
