Iconoclast, there's Senran Kagura Shonovi Versus, which looks to be a super-perverse Dynasty Warriors...AKA "Tits are life, ass are hometown!"   :lol  Also a Gundam game that is going to have cross-play versus with the PS3 version.  Several Monster Hunbter-style games are coming, too, like God Eater 2.  And was Phantasy Star Online 2 already mentioned?

Sony said that the Vita price is going to drop next year, anyway- because it's always better to let the system continue to flop during the holiday sales rush and drop the price after everyone has spent all their shopping money!

I actually bought the $179 Vita, then after about 30 minutes thought better of it and cancelled. What made me stop was the price of the memory cards and the realization that I can't fit shit onto the 4GB card it comes with.

Also the realization that nothing else is coming out for this thing

it's a decent enough deal for the $179, minus the $40 for AC and $20 for the card you're essentially paying $120 for the system, and there are enough games out already to justify it at that price

spend $179, drop another $18 on 3 months of PS+ for the free vita games, and for $50 less than the system normally goes for alone you get a couple months or so of good gaming

if they dropped it to that 179 price permanently, they might have a very slim chance to turn things around, but they are sony and stupid shit seems to be what they do for a living

You motherfuckers better be right about it being worth it in value.  I mostly want it to play PS1 (the games look like total shit on my 60" 1080p Plasma to the point where they are unplayable) and Pee Ass Pee classics on it.

The bundle itself already gives you Ass Creed, Uncharted, Mutant Blobs Attack, Gravity Rush, PS All Stars, Wipeout, Jet Set Radio.  I think all of the PS+ games except Uncharted fit on the 4gb card at once.

after that, it all depends on what you want.  I can tell you that if you have an interest in PS1 or PSP games, you'll have more than enough to play on the thing.  if you don't, welp....you've got some good games, but not exactly a bright future at the moment.

Edit:  I see your edit, yeah, you'll enjoy it.  they look great on dat oled.  Buuuut now this means you need a bigger mem card.

There's quite a few things I want for it so it wasn't really a waste of money, it's just knowing that I'm buying a handheld that is essentially dead.  I'm going to buy a 32 GB card that should get me set up.  I can buy other cards later if need be.

I hope that if Sony discontinues PSN for Vita that they won't deactivate the PS1/PSP stuff on there.

i think it'll always be able to connect, as long as PSN is up.  As far as I know, the ps3, psp, vita are all connected to the same central set of servers.

the way i see it, i already have enough to get my money's worth of gameplay out of the thing.  i'm not worried about having a 10 year life cycle for something I paid about $150 out of pocket for....though a few years would be nice  :'(

I just can't see Sony killing this thing off anytime soon.  We just got a nice amount of new games...let's see what (if anything) gets announced next year.  Then I'll quit playing the role of Vita defense force here.   :P

The screen and coating on this white one seems better.

The screen doesn't have any OLED black blotches aka "oled mura" (which every black model I've seen has.)   And the coating seems to resist hand grease much better.

Only if you haven't added them to your download list, which you should be doing for every game that's available.  You can resubscribe whenever and just download them from there.

Shame that you can't add games to your download list when you're not a member.  Collect a bunch of games and play them during a free month or something like that.

Oh, we're discounting bullshit games?  then chop the 3DS list down to Crashmo and Etrian Odyssey.

and 8 games versus 5 games, totally worth arguing over in hopes that the system you picked edges out the other to justify your purchase :lol  instead of acknowledging that both are weak.

edit: apparently you missed the downports and card games on the 3DS list too.  very GAF.

To be fair, I was rushing that comment. I could've teared the 3DS apart. But the point is: They have:

-Casual game
-Card game
-Two "hardcore" games. One is a sequel/series that started on handhelds so not really any downport/port-ing of the series.

While the Vita has:

-One card game that ties into a spin-off of a console entry IP.
-Two (possible) downports/ports of a console title

Really though, what I'm getting at is that the 3DS has all it's bases covered in general: There's console ports (Zelda), there's new IPs, there's casual shit no one but casuals give a damn about (Brain Age) while the Vita has... hardcore games but mostly they're ports. Which is fine, but that's not really going to make the mass market jump the hardware.

And for the record: I don't have a 3DS. Outside of two games on the system there's nothing appealing to it for me in comparison to the Vita.

There are seven Persona games (not counting ports) in that franchise's existence over 16 years. There are six games that star Mario, and have already been released on 3DS within 2 years.

DCharlie never said Vita didn't have ports or old games. He said 3DS has succeeded off the back of rehashed games. Given the top 3DS sellers are the likes of Mario Kart 7, New Super Mario Bros. 2, Monster Hunter Tri G, and more it's kind of hard to disagree with that.

i take back my comment about the screen being better.

when i play it in the dark, there's some serious dithering or something on the screen.  it's like static, tiny vertical lines all across the screen.  It's more noticeable in some games then others...games like NGS+ with lots of bloom and shit look atrocious and make the lines really obvious.   This wasn't on my last vita.  Also, the browser gave me a hard lock last night...thinking of exchanging today.

reading up, seems like the screens are a fucking lottery.

nothing like that, afaik.  They added game breaking equipment for Ryu and costumes also have attributes...but the game isn't really rebalanced to match up with these additions.  No leaderboards, prob cause of the new items.  It doesn't force you to use them or anything, though.

It does have trophies.

otherwise, it's just portable Ninja Gaiden Sigma.  Aside from 30fps and some extra load times, it's the same game.

It's a shit port and doesn't feel the same at 30 FPS.  The game is also filled with glitches...IIRC it was MCD who played through the game and said it was crap in the Ninja Gaiden 3-turned-DOA5 thread here.

Feels pretty much the same to me.  The controls are very close to being as responsive as the console versions.

There are differences here and there, but they just didn't annoy me that much on my playthrough on hard mode.  With some exceptions here or there, I played it just like I did on consoles, at about the same skill level.

No, you're not going to get a competitively legitimate version of Ninja Gaiden.  but you'll have an acceptable portable version of the game, which counts for something to me.  Depends on how much perfection you demand and if you're willing to adjust to some small things.

I don't feel like it's a "shit port."  I could whine about 30fps and shitty bow controls and the reverse wind jump going to dead bodies instead of enemies, but I just adjusted to those things.

casting ninpo with a bunch of enemies on screen will make it drop, but just during the ninpo animation.   There was one fight where it felt reduced-- when the purple guys jump out of the sewer after you ghost ride the train.  That part has weird loading issues in every version of the game, not sure what's up with that.

other than that, it's solid.  and has "feel of 60" for real

bottom line:  someone looking for a solid, perfect version of Ninja Gaiden or extra content should look elsewhere (I mean, Sigma on PS3 is already below standards if you want perfection.)  If you can be content just playing the game without too many problems, but with some definitely objective issues, then it's fine.

i personally look forward to breaking the shit out of the game on master ninja with the "enhancement" items.

I took the hand me down PS vita and so it is now mine MUHAHAHAHA. Already got a backlog for it too. How is CoD, Resistance, and Unit 13? I want a shooter of some sort.

Unit 13 is better than Resistance, but lacks any sort of head to head competitive online multiplayer. Resistance is a cookie cutter FPS. Haven't played CoD because fuck $50 for 50 minutes of single player content.

Unit 13 is the best for single player.

CoD is the the best for multiplayer.

That reminds me, I need to pick up Unit 13 at some point.  Did they patch it's Vita-related save-killing problems?

Only Vita game I sold off.  Hated the port.

But I will give Sigma 2 a chance.

oh yeah, like that has a chance in hell of being any better :lol

even if it's a 100% perfect 60fps port of NGS2...still worse than NGS+ :smug

I would hope that it's a better port after over a year later, yeah.   :o

Uncharted is really pretty in motion. Shooting feels a bit weird though or maybe my skills are just rusty.

Nah, shooting is weird, mainly because it sucks so bad with just analog control...the gyro stuff is pretty much mandatory.

It has leaderboards, and co-op but that's it. I think Zipper knew they were getting the axe and Sony forced them to get something out for the Vita early. A shame that they didn't make the CoD game, because they probably would've made a respectable game.

Some Sine Mora info

Quote
Vita. Now this was a b****. And it's all my fault, i insisted on keeping the 60fps _and_ native resolution. Shaders had to be significantly simplified, as i just couldn't find a way to maintain detail and those above at the same time. The vita version has some simplified geometry as well (although not everything, only a few models here and there), and still, geometry processing bottlenecks forced me to use the CPU cores to do some additional culling. Bounding volumes are generated for each 32 tris in each model, used by an async culling job (on 2 cores) to generate new indexbuffers each frame. The game still has some slowdowns (worst case being 45fps) in certain sections, but i think it's not too bad, and the crisp native resolution was definitely worth it. edit: oh and if you happen to have red/cyan anaglyph glasses, there's a little extra for you in the options, keeping in tradition with the other versions

Some random facts about the Vita version: native res for most elements, except a few of the transparent polys which are rendered at 256x128. (Including the rockworm-blowup particles, that actually do damage you, sorry about that ) The game runs at 60fps, with two notable slowdowns (around 45 fps for a few seconds), and the cutscenes are all 30fps - cutscenes tended to tax the system more so instead of removing more graphical elements, i've decided to lock them at 30. The stereoscopic mode runs at 30fps, and was designed for red/cyan glasses. Unfortunately, we weren't allowed to include it in the US version, so it's a kind of EU exclusive feature

Weird that SCEA told them to remove the red/cyan 3D glasses stuff. Then again, that's a pretty pointless inclusion anyways.

I will likely get the Steam version of Sine Mora, but it's impressive that he (they?) managed to get 60 FPS at native resolution.
