longer videos of Killzone whatever and Tearaway

Killzone's appeal appears to be the portable factor.  Still, some parts of it look interesting.  It's doing something similar to killzone 1 where you could choose different classes for missions (standard, stealth, heavy), which was about the only good part of the rubbish first one.  Concept of playing as a mercenary is neat since you're fighting with and against both sides.  And, uh, realistically I won't play this unless it comes to Plus.  Ignoring general indifference, two rough parts are the frame rate and touch QTE nonsense.

Tearway looks great.  Maybe a little gimmicky but on the whole it looks like a 3D platformer with a really clever style.  Something that disappointed me about LittleBigPlanet 2 is that it abandoned that original handcrafted aesthetic.  That ultimately made for more diverse levels, but it lost what I found charming about the original.  Tearaway, so far, looks consistent in the way I like.  Unless Ys gets localized, this might be my Vita Game of the Year (as in the only Vita game I buy this year).

Tearaway looks less impressive here than it did in the reveal trailer from a technical standpoint, but otoh it looks a lot less gimmicky. The first trailer with its fast cuts made it look more of a minigames collection than an adventure/platformer, since it focused more on how it takes advantage of the Vita's inputs. I'm still not completely on board though, I need to see more.

Tearaway would be a cool PSN/XBLA game for $15ish but since it's a Vita title it'll go for $40 instead. Looks neat but I dunno if I'd throw what they'll ask for initally at it. Of course that doesn't matter since it'll be free for + folks like six months after it releases.

even the worst killzone game is leagues beyond what the vita has at the moment for fps

So this will automatically be the best portable FPS out there.   ;)

Where is Gameloft?  Why are they not porting Modern Combat and/or Nova to Vita and 3DS?  Seems like easy money.

they ported a couple of old games and released them in cartridge form

for $40

i was surprised they didn't load up PSN at the beginning with portovers for the $6-7 they normally charge on iOS, they probably could have done fairly well at launch - too late now, though

true, but i thought they'd at least have a $6.99 N.O.V.A. or Modern War on the Vita PSN at launch, instead of $40 retail Dungeon Hunter and Asphalt

also no one buys the iOS stuff until it's on sale for .99 (at least i don't)

heh, i'm not sure how the Vita getting localizations (pretty much all of which we knew would be coming) of last year's stuff is suddenly it having a future again.

but hey, that's a third game i'd own for a hypothetical vita purchase.

I don't live in Japan so it's not last year's stuff to me.  Between Ys, NGSII, Soul Sacrifice, and DOA5 + my ridiculous backlog, I have another year's worth or more of games to play while I wait to see if the thing dies or not.

Something that really helps me with this boss fight is that the enemies that spawn during it are finite, there are just quite a few. What I like to do is focus on killing them and dodging the boss' attacks, then taking him out 1-on-1 when they're all gone.

They also start mostly at the other side of the bridge and slowly stray over to the side you enter on.  You can plant yourself as soon as the cutscene is over and just shoot arrows each time the horse runs away after charging.  You'll have to dodge some of the blue fireballs, but you can orient the camera to look out for them or just sit tight with block held while the boss charges in and runs away.  I do the latter. You have to roll as soon as a fireball hits your block or you'll get guard crushed, then the boss runs into you and you have to spend time reorienting yourself, which can go wrong if the AI wants to fuck with you.  The guys will start to come after you, but when they teleport close in, they do that one melee attack they have which is easy to get an izuna off of.  If you get lucky, you can izuna drop a guy on the boss and do some decent damage.

They were probably hoping/expecting the Minis version of NOVA or Modern Combat to be supported by Vita.

Now, if only Falcom would port Nayuta to 3DS or Vita or PC (or realistically just 3DS) to give Xseed a reason to localize it.

Is Normal in Sigma the Easy mode on the Xbox version? It's easier than I remember it.  The first stage used to kick my ass, but I casually strolled through it last night.

No, Normal is Normal. If you get your ass kicked three times there, Ninja Dog is unlocked/asked if you want to switch to. That is easy mode. Hero mode in Sigma Plus is super casual "I suck at action games that even Ninja Dog is too hard for me" easy.

I don't know, but it's dumb and they should correct it.

They should correct some of the "Playstation Classics" and PSP titles on the PSN store that can't be bought on the Vita's store and transferred over. You either have to buy them on PS3, download them on PS3, and transfer from PS3 or think they aren't on the store at all.

With the one year anniversary of the PlayStation Vita fast approaching in North America, sources (who have requested that we keep anonymous) have hinted at the possibility of an upgraded model coming sooner than most may have expected.

Although the credibility of this report comes into question by myself and my colleagues, these are the details nonetheless:

A new 4G model of the PlayStation Vita will be replacing the 3G model sometime this year. According to the source, this will be the so-called “price drop” that has been rumored for the Vita as the new model will retain the $299 price point for an upgraded system.
The Wi-Fi version will still be available on the market for $249
To go along with the 4G model, a significant firmware update will go live bringing in a lot of requested features including new ways to organize apps in folders.
The new model may be unveiled along with the rumored PS4 this month at PlayStation’s February 20th event or at E3, but will not hit the market until later in the year.
A price cut on memory cards will be made. No details on prices.
According to the source, no other hardware changes will be made to the Vita and all other specs and features will remain the same. As for the 4G model, the regions where it will be available, in addition to info on any data plan pricing was not available.

As stated before, this is a rumor and credibility comes into question, so take it with a whole pile of salt, if you would like; But it should be interesting if it really pans out. We will reach out to Sony to see if they have any comment on this.

On February 7, 2013, the US Patent & Trademark Office published a patent application from Sony that is technically about the PlayStation Vita and their new and upcoming connectors. Sony states that the connectors are for "connecting the electronic apparatus to peripheral apparatuses" at the bottom and side surfaces of the device housing. Sony's patent filing specifically states that the next generation PS Vita will gain USB, HDMI and a power supply connector described as a parallelepiped connector.

(Image removed from quote.)

Sony's patent application was originally filed in the US in Q3 2012 but months earlier in Japan. The photo above was taken from Sony website on February 7, 2013. It's juxtaposed to Sony's patent figures 1 and 2 which expose the new ports. In comparison, we see the new ports clearly.

Could just be bullshit...the patent is apparently old and might be the dev kit version?

But LOL yeah, Vita doesn't need a new model.  It needs a price drop and cheaper memory cards...and more game announcements.

I would buy for HDMI out though.  I loved being able to hook up my PSP to a TV.

The HDMI out is what makes it seem a little doubtful.  And 4G is really stupid, but it also seems like a realistic boneheaded Sony move.

If it does HDMI out, maybe they'd find a way to make it require a PS4 to do that.

Why?  Dev units already have HDMI out and this is exactly like the PSP's first revision that had composite and component out.
