Coolios. The one I'm thinking of is Spelunker HD, I'm not sure who did it or how good it is, but I sure despise them for trying to mislead people.

Spelunker is way older though (from the NES days) and Spelunker HD is the remake of that game.

Spelunky took inspiration from Spelunker and La Mulana

Oh I'm aware of that, but I thought it was a little bit shady to slap it all over the PS store around the time the much hyped and similar looking (from a glance) Spelunky was released.

Hmmm, looking at the announcement and release dates I think you're right. But yeah, since one was more hyped than the other, and both were exclusives at one point, some marketing shadiness was afoot.

BUT if it's a heavily arcade or even fantasy/unrealistic soccer game this might be good.

Spelunky is a nice pick up. I enjoyed the free PC version a few years ago but haven't played the updated version

Also, is La Mulana older than Spelunky? I didn't realize La Mulana has been out there that long

Its funny to see sony bragging about indies on their blog. Don't get carried away, its great they're getting more support but they're still dwarfed by phones/tablets/steam plus they have yet to prove the sales are there. I can't recall ever hearing a rags to riches story on PSN and That Game Company was just talking about going broke a few weeks ago

That said I always knew the Vita's death would be fun like the PSP's death. I just imagined it would have more :uguu

Not just Vita, indies will save consoles too.I mean, after spending the whole day at work playing smartphone indie games people will just continue to play them at home on a big screen, right?

Yeah me. I have absolutely nothing with the shitty ass games people like this gen like uncharted, ass creed or what the fuck ever other AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA game there is. I'm starting to more and more realize how the Vita failing on the department of being a mini-PS3 is a gift from God as it slowly makes way of it becoming a real handheld with handheld games instead of primarly becoming a machine that plays Call of Duty and Shooter #9999999.

me personally? i don't think these pc/xbox indie games are a good fit for ios.

I much prefer games build up to take advantage of the touch screen controls. other stuff like xcom/strategy games/card games seems like a great fit, if i hadn't already played through.

I'm happy with my vita and these smaller games coming to it (as it's more than I expected), but not much here to keep the platform alive in the coming years. Unless the digital sales of these games are really that great, and these indie devs look vita first port 2nd. lol

I would suspect if it was going to happen it would be a snap announcement before Mh4 - i'm pretty sure MH4 is going back to Oct at least at this rate, probably to let them port up an MH4U.

So, about that 2013 Vita death...

With this huge news, what's your prediction for the next couple NPDs?  Personally, I think we might see Vita reach the northern side of 40k again, even if just barely.

Japan's reaction to this huge list of games never releasing on the Japanese PSN is sure to be big as well.

I didn't know convention announcements affected NPDs so much.   And I don't really care, it's a sign of continued support, where internet tards interpreted laziness and game droughts as "imminent death."

I love how SNK has those super overpriced individual games and a bunch of bad PS1 ports on the PSN store, then full PSP collections of those same games with a much cheaper price.   I guess you might not know it since everything is all split up!

On the downside, Metal Slug Anthology, SamSho Anthology, KOF Orochi collection, and the Neogeo collection will prob never go on sale

okay - so.... what they are saying is that the Vita only got a bump because of the spring break.

So extracting that , over the space of 2-3 weeks, a large portion of 160k sales were kids getting money to go out and buy Vita's ?

I'm trying to figure out why this would be the case though - and why they all wouldn't go out and buy, say, Nintendo products. Or is this a subliminal white flag regarding Wii U? Or is the pull of Soul Sac that strong for kids?

I dunno - Vita will start going back down but i don't see what the big mystery is. 19800 new is a good price point and there's at least a smattering of games of note now. Hell, if you are buying one now the line up in the short term is going to be pretty good. That's not the vita's problem and i don't particularly buy into the spring break theory - that would suggest a pretty unusual kids swing towards Vita. More likely straggling gamer types ?

Tried account switching to use some DLC for some of the Japanese games I have and check out the Soul Sacrifice demo.  You can now skip the stupid intro video (just power the system off/on), so it cuts down on a lot of time, but it was a pain in the ass switching back to my U.S. account- I knew the system would change the icon order, but some game icons were deleted entirely.  (The save data for them was not)  Also had to re-enter all my billing information.

It was just annoying enough that I doubt I'm going to be doing this very often.

dc tilting at GAF windmills again?

there's a general n-feeling over there that the Vita bump is -just- down to all these kids being on holiday and getting a vita.

The issue with that logic is that the 3DS -dropped- in the same week.

Or... are nthings suggesting that the tide is turning!? :O :O :O

Smells of scared - i wonder how many are finger crossed / praying to Jesus for shitty Vita HW numbers ?

maybe numbers work differently in the uk, but i'm reasonably sure 76,000 is a higher number than 68,000.

This is talk of the week 3/4-3/11 - Famitsu has the 3DS figures dropping in the week that the Vita saw it's rise - so in the period where people got extra cash to run out and buy a new system 3DS saw a drop, Vita saw a gain.

I'm also aware that the spring break is spread per school (our boy is off this week for instance)

 ???

One account per memory card now, so I had to do a factory restore and use the card with my J-account to access the DLC.

I think I'm just gonna switch back to the J-account this weekend, run through the DLC for Senran Kagura ( :-[, uguu, etc.) and switch back.  Nobody plays that game online anyway.

Wanted to use DLC for One Piece Kaizoku Musou 2 (which is SO GOOD on Vita- what the fuck is up with no English release?), but they just had some outfits and a throwaway challenge mission so I'll probably just stick to playing that on my U.S. account too.

Assuming you can use a 3G connection to setup PSN accounts, that's about the only reason I can think of where having a 3G Vita would have been useful.   :lol  I play my Vita a lot at work during downtime and don't have a wireless network to use for it, so account switching is a bigger deal for me since I'm locked into using whichever account it's set to if I'm not at home.

I think what is up with the no English release is that the license costs money, the first one didn't sell terribly well, and new Vita games have trouble cracking 10k sales in NA in most cases.

Do they require an additional license even with it already coming to PS3?  Was expecting it to have been a digital release like the PS3 version...

I've written Remote Play twice in the past, and every time my skepticism was validated.

However I'm starting to feel a small tingly bit of excitement for how it might work with with the PS4, especially after hearing how it's being set up. And while I highly doubt it's going to boost the sales and/or relevancy of the Vita on the market, I'm wondering if it would at least encourage me to turn on my dusty Vita more frequently out of genuine interest, rather than the sad need to justify my purchase that overcomes me every now and then.

New Ragnarok Odyssey game announced for Vita and PS3.  They don't mention anything about cross-play...leaving that out would be pretty stupid.

Quote
GungHo Online Entertainment is readying Ragnarok Odyssey Ace, a complete reworking of last year’s Ragnarok Odyssey on PS Vita, for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita.

The game will include a new episode set after the ending of the original game, and all of the downloadable quests from the original will be included, according to Famitsu.

Ragnarok Odyssey Ace is due out on July 11 for 4,935 yen in Japan.

Quote
The latest issue of Famitsu revealed Ragnarok Odyssey Ace, an update to last year’s Ragnarok Odyssey, for PS Vita and PlayStation 3. Among a new episode set after the game’s ending, and all the download quests from the original game, the game will also feature a host of new elements. Find these additions detailed below.

Music

    Composed by Kuma Tanioka

Monster

Niizuegg (ニーズヘッグ): A black dragon. In addition to biting and scratch attacks, it can also breath strongly.

Skills

    ACE Skill.
There are ACE skills per class now. Skills include attacks, movement, and recovery.
In addition to button combinations for invoking a skill, there are also touch commands.
Skills per class are different, and it appears there are a range of ways to customize them.

Classes

Six classes are being carried over from the original game, but the illustrations have been redone.

Dungeon

“Tower of Yggdrasil”: A randomly generated dungeon with a layered structure. You’ll need a specific item to get in. The further you go, the more powerful weapons and cards you can acquire. You can take breaks every five levels. Multiplayer is also possible.

Equipment

“Harmonasu Weapon”: Using the right order, you can level up your weapon ability. Depending on how you level up, the shape of the weapon will also change.
There are new items, like clothes and accessories, based on the new monsters. It appears you’ll be able to change their color.
    New cards have been added.

Other

A “Mercenary Helper” system has been added.
A “Mercenary Encyclopedia” with weapon and monster data, and a combat record showing play data, has been added.
“Daily Quests”: GungHo planning to offer a different quest every day.

You're the best....around! Nothing's gonna ever keep you down.

I always felt like these cases were designed to shame you into buying games for full-price. If you buy games from Gamestop with with the title written on a blank box in magic marker, then won't mind, but if you care about this kind of stuff, then you'll pay extra. Unfortunately, it's usually to an eBay seller.

PS Vita v2.20 update to add folders

The next PlayStation Vita system software update, version 2.20, is set to arrive in the next couple of days and will add the ability to create folders, this week’s Dengeki PlayStation reveals.

Here are the details:

Folders
  You can configure folders.
- Up to 10 icons in a folder.
- You can name the folders what you want.
- The icons displayed on the home screen get shrunk a little, so they also end up a bit grainy.
- Unclear whether the icon limit will increase or not.

Browser Improvements
- Stream web videos.
- Not sure what format.

Nasne Link Improvement
- Transfer / back up save data, etc. with Nasne via Wi-Fi.

Nasne Update 1.70
- Nasne gets an update; better link functionality.
