What exactly is worth playing in that list?

The well is dry. Vita is RIP.

I read there was an exploit possibly coming soon that would let us load PSP games, that might give it the jolt it desperately needs.

does DLC usually go on sale with the base game, like how steam does it?

If DLC is 75% off, maybe I'll pick it up.  Seems like it's the last of the classic Ridge Racers.  I can't believe there's no PS4/XBO game  :'(

Sonic Transformed with its DLC included is $19 on Amazon.  Get that.

What exactly is worth playing in that list?

Removing fluff, these:

Soul Sacrifice
Gravity Rush
Street Fighter X Tekken
Guilty Gear Accent XX Core + R
Silent Hill Book of Memories
Touch My Katamari
Metal Gear Solid HD Collection
New Little Kings Story
Dead or Alive 5 Plus
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
Super Monkey Ball

Soul Sacrifice isn't my bag and neither is Touch My Katamari but there's a market and interest in those for the system. GG doesn't have online so it's mostly a pass unless you are playing arcade/practicing for the console versions, so that's another pass but "worth playing."  The others are ports of fighters/console titles that you may already own but that's the story of the systems life so let's ignore that.

They're not bad titles and I'm sure you'll scoff and demi is gonna demi but to dismiss all of them is just  ::)

If Marvel 3 was cross-play, which really is the biggest crime Capcom did with the port, it would easily justify my Vita purchase. Too bad it isn't to where the online is dead unless this sale brings a lot more people in.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus is actually OK if you turn off the extra gore effect and change the camera sensitivity to high.  Makes it pretty playable.

Guilty Gear has no online play.  Fuck that.

What exactly is worth playing in that list?

The well is dry. Vita is RIP.

I read there was an exploit possibly coming soon that would let us load PSP games, that might give it the jolt it desperately needs.

These are good games, but it's mostly ports or stuff you probably don't care about:

Soul Sacrifice
Gravity Rush
Street Fighter X Tekken
Muramasa Rebirth
Metal Gear Solid HD Collection
Dead or Alive 5 Plus
Ragnarok Odyssey
Dynasty Warriors Next
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3

Most Vita owners are playing Dragon's Crown and the Killzone beta right now.

Woo! Finally a good FPS that appeals to the western market. This will surely turn around the poor sales.

Wow, it's $10 on Steam? GoG has it for $5.99 the price it should be.

Unless we're getting a secret PS3/PS4 port with cross-buy that's still way too expensive. :/

RUMOR: Japanese newspaper Tokyo Keizai reported a rumor that Sony is set to reveal a new PS Vita model in September before the Tokyo Game Show. The new model PCH-2000 will have a 6.3" OLED display manufactured by Samsung (screen size of the current model is 5"), and the resolution will remain at 960 x 554 pixels. The amount of RAM will increase from 512MB to 1GB, to allow more programs to run in the background, the amount of RAM used by games will be unchanged (meaning games are still compatible between old and new models). In addition, the design of the new model will be more in-line with the PS4 design; and the system will launch with new game titles.

I'd get another Vita with a larger screen and TV out

/Vitard

Yeah, this thing is dead.

Yeah even the most stalwart of Vitards have given up from my observation.  Sony seems to be trying to push the cross play thing with PS4 but I suspect it will be a feature that will be dropped pretty early in the PS4's lifespan after it does jack shit to improve Vita's prospects.

It's a shame but Ys Celceta, FFX, and FFX-2 are coming out for it still.  Not a bad end since I have about 30 Vita games already.

I'd be interested if it had full DS4 controls, TV out, PS4 remote play is solid, and regular flash memory (...and a UMD slot!!).  Probably not.

Flip screen like nvidia shield would be nice, too.

They could drop the backtouch entirely and I doubt most people wouldn't miss it. They'd have to patch LittleBigPlanet and a few other titles that make use of it but the majority of others are just check-that-box on it.

I've mentally set the Vita's price to $250 for a year and thought this was a $50 price-cut.

Sony should have just used much cheaper hardware if that's all the support Vita can get

Well that makes sense.  You wouldn't have had this problem had you browsed on ALL THAT IS VITA.

Yes, even the naysayer Oscar has succumbed to the GLORY OF VITA.

Rejoice, my brothers, THE SECOND COMING IS HERE.

Consoles don't ever really come back from the dead, they just usually become niche. But the PlayStation Vita, Sony's redheaded portable stepchild, is currently having its Lazarus moment more than a year after release; a solid second chance at relevance. It's a resurrection owed entirely to the indie community, a fact Sony's more than happy to acknowledge -- just look at the company's recent marketing and Gamescom presser for proof. But before we talk Vita 2.0 and the promising future ahead, let's rewind a bit to examine the missteps that almost pushed Sony's powerhouse portable off a cliff.

Dual analog sticks, rear and front touch panels, a 5-inch OLED screen -- the Vita was designed to impress and address the gripes gamers had long held for the PSP. Even the promise of PSN downloads for every game seemed to eradicate the dreaded physicality of the UMD, a proprietary Sony accessory. But then came the system's launch and history did a terrible bit of repeating: a $250 price point, prohibitively expensive custom memory cards, and a scant initial lineup. The Vita was stillborn and the stubborn Sony of old knew it.

For a while there, post-launch, it appeared as if the Vita was being mindlessly pushed down the same rabbit hole that swallowed the PSP, making it yet another smaller screen repository for console-like gaming experiences. The results of which gave us gems like Gravity Rush and Uncharted: Golden Abyss; games that played well, but also struggled to organically incorporate the Vita's unique touchscreen inputs. In reality, both were true PS3 titles with shoehorned Vita controls. But what else was Sony to do? It needed AAA titles to sell units, or so the company thought.

Holiday 2012 came and went and Sony's attractively priced Vita bundles (e.g., Assassin's Creed III: Liberation, Call of Duty Black Ops Declassified, etc.) helped keep system sales afloat, but it was still a far cry from a market share cure-all. And then the drought came. Vita games quite literally dripped onto PSN, forcing most early adopters to shelve the system altogether in favor of PS3 releases or the promise of the next-gen. Vita had become a write-off -- a misunderstood, but beloved hardware anecdote in the annals of gaming history. Fortunately, Sony had a vision in place to buoy the system and it began to lay the groundwork for the sea change to come. The company made several key moves to keep the system flush with attention: it eradicated the PS Mobile licensing fee for devs, dangled the tantalizing promise of Vita Remote Play as a key PS4 feature, introduced a dedicated indie portal on PSN and announced key indie faves as eventual ports.

Then came the Swedes. Guacamelee might seem like a fitting reference point for the Vita's about-face, what with its familiar 2D platforming mechanics and accessible gameplay bundled into a $15 PSN cross-buy. But it wasn't until Hotline Miami that Vita had hit its true tipping point. Here was a topdown, hyperviolent indie shooter, lovingly slaved over by a team of two from Sweden, that served up just the right type of addictive, snackable gameplay Vita gamers had been lacking. And it wasn't even an exclusive -- Sony had the game ported over from PC. No matter though, Hotline Miami had all the hallmarks of the PlayStation brand of yesteryear: challenging gameplay, a healthy dose of irreverence, a thumping techno soundtrack and a killer dose of edge enough to endear the hip squadron. Lightning had finally struck Vita and the press and public at large began to take notice. Sony had stumbled onto a lifesaving strategy and this was our first taste.

Still, Sony had more work to do if Vita was to gain traction, especially with gamers eagerly awaiting (and saving for) the bow of the next-gen; something the company had been publicly dragging its feet over -- namely, a major price drop. It may have taken Sony nearly two years to do, but the company finally caved, using Gamescom 2013 as the platform to announce an immediately effective $199 system price, as well as a slight reduction to the still outrageous MSRP for its memory cards. It wasn't quite the proverbial two birds with one stone many had hoped for -- that memory card price could stand to decrease more -- but it sure signals loftier times ahead for the Vita. Couple that with an indie release schedule that includes the likes of Fez, Minecraft, a sequel to Hotline Miami, Spelunky, Luftrausers and the Squee / Edward Gorey-esque Murasaki Baby, and the promise of PS4 Remote Play now seems a remote concern, though no doubt an invaluable added bonus.

It's fair to say that, right now, it finally feels good to be a Vita owner.

You don't have a PS3 or 360 though, right?  Try Sonic Transformed, Dragon's Crown, Hot Shots, and Gravity Rush!  Guacamelee and Hotline Miami too if you haven't played them on PC.  I prefer the latter on consoles.  The PC version crashed like crazy for me.   :-\

I don't keep track of the PS+ offerings in Japan, but if you sign up for it here in Europe you get plenty of interesting Vita games for "free". I really enjoyed e.g. Mortal Kombat and I would never have considered buying it at retail.

Is this the first time that a game has been canceled for 3DS and moved to the Vita?

http://www.destructoid.com/yatagarasu-gets-a-new-name-coming-to-the-ps-vita-260627.phtml

Quote
Nicalis' high-speed 2D fighter, Yatagarasu, is heading to the PlayStation Vita under a new name. Legend of Raven, as it's called now, was originally announced for the 3DS, but has moved development over to the Vita "due to the incredibly overwhelming response from the fighting gaming community," Nicalis CEO Tyrone Rodriguez stated in a press release.

Developed by ex-King of Fighters developers, Legend of Raven will have new features on the Vita such as parallaxing backgrounds, ad-hoc versus play, a new original soundtrack, and more to be announced.

We can expect this one sometime late 2013. Until then check out the gallery. The characters were all hand-animated by King of Fighters artist Kotani Tomoyuki!

Nice, but they don't mention online play and this still appears to be the original game instead of the new version coming soon.   :-\

Last 1/3 is a bit of a let down as combat becomes boring and it gets really wacky jappy story wise

I'd still recommend it for that price. Or free

Yeah, I'm with demi on that.  It's a high quality piece of boring tech, with all kinds of features that were obviously put in to check something off a list, not because it was necessarily a good idea.

Not that that is anything unusual these days.  Hardware manufacturers all make boring shit now.

I agree it seemed checked off (the OS is basically a IOS/Android style interface but with empahsis of movement in the other direction aka instead of mostly horizontal its vertical) but it was stuff that made it in a dedicated handheld machine plus say what you will about that OS it performs way better than that POS PS3 OS (still has issues but). Also agree but the build quality

Its funny if you rotate the system to a portrait view it looks like it could be a weirdass fucking phone.  :lol :lol

Well, my impulse purchase of the Vita came in on Friday, and I finally got around to buying a memory card today (just got the 8 GB for now while I wait for a deal on the 32; also, I didn't feel like spending even MORE money). Got 3 months of PSN+ just to get a feel for whether or not I'll love it as much as some, and picked up Hot Shots off of the PSN store. Persona 4 gets in mid week.

I still don't know why I did this.

PS+ is the only reason to own a Vita. Heavily depends on how much you plan on using Vita, as well.

That's what I figured. I'm just really trying to minimize initial extra expenditures for now because I already know that this was an unnecessary purchase. Though I am quite enjoying both Hot Shots and the PS+ pinball titles.

PS Plus is great for free content, especially if you like PSP games.  Uncharted, Gravity Rush, Virtue's Last Reward have been (or are currently) free.  Then you can get more PSP stuff like Tekken 6, Metal Slug XX, and Darkstalkers Chronicles.  A few weeks ago they had that Atlus blowout where you could get several PSP RPGs for $2-3 each.
