famousmortimer (that gaf leaker) said on his podcast sony was looking into releasing it exclusively to an online retailer or two

maybe i could see that happening?  i don't know, though.  scea has always treated the vita like an unwanted product that was forced on them by the japanese parent, i just can't see them wanting to go through all the crap that releasing that locally means, even in a limited release, when the japanese parent is likely going to be burying the thing themselves within a month or so.

I doubt it comes too, but I would consider replacing my roku with one is the media apps reached PS3 parity. Anyway I think the Ouya shows no one is really that interested in the "micro console" idea

Don't see why it wouldn't come out- it's already ready to go for multiple languages/regions and can be used for more than just Vita games.  Could get decent sales as an Apple TV competitor and PS4/Gakkai stream box.  Plus we have at least one western game (Killzone Mercenary) confirmed to be getting an update in 2014 to support it.

It's also pretty fucking stupid how so many Vita titles have no Vita TV support.  Killed most of my interest in it.

And that's why it bombed in Japan (most likely, I'm sure Oscar will be in to correct me): No support for the fucking thing it's titled under. Okay, "no support" is "low support."

If they wanted to make an Apple TV thing, I'm sure they could've done it without kneecapping their portable system.

I read that the Vita TV was being targeted more at countries like China, which apparently has laws preventing the sales of game consoles, but the Vita TV would count as a setup/streaming box and would be acceptable.  But it hasn't been released there yet, has it?

That's definitely part of it, since unreliable support is kind of worse than no support at all for the average customer.  But I think Japan had circumstances kind of unique to that region, in addition.  Specifically, Sony thought it would be a good idea, for some reason, to dive into a largely handheld market with a home-based machine whose functions are already served by a pre-existing handheld.  There's no sensible market for the thing in Japan.

Right. And I feel there's no sensible market for the thing outside of Japan, either. It won't play the titles that people tout unless they patch out extreme overuse of the back/front-touch systems. So... what is the point in buying it?

They could've saved some cash and just put the PSP hardware in a set-top box if they were going to emulate PSP, PSX, and TV shows you know?

So, I mentioned in the other thread but I really enjoyed Soul Sacrifice. I only need 2 more trophies for Platinum (play 100 online matches -- already hit 50 just working on the regular fights with the help of people online, reach LVL 99 in one side -- currently 61) -- just a grind, really.

If Delta comes stateside, I will pick it up. I cannot get into Monster Hunter at all but this one clicked.

It can also be used for PS4 remote play on other TVs in your house and will make use of the upcoming PS1/PS2/PS3 game streaming service.

Sure, but why not just go with the Vita hardware?  It's only $99 for the base model.

Although the problem is that you need a PS3 (later PS4) controller and a memory card, too.

It wouldn't make much sense to use PSP hardware for a set top box now. By next year that hardware is 10, and it's lacking a lot of the network functionality Vita has.

I also wonder if the delayed release of the PS4 in Japan had any effect on Vita TV sales- all the ads shown heavily-emphasized the remote play feature.  So in the end, it was like "Hey!  This little box hooks up to your TV and plays Vita games!  Well...a few of them.  And you can just bring a Playstation 4 controller with you and play your PS4 in another room...in four months!"

Seems that Wii U was banking on this idea too, but then worldwide.

Well, there was this:

Quote
According to the magazine, Vita sales rose by 68 per cent in the week of PS4's launch, and by 65 per cent the week after. It isn't known how many units that translates to, however.

But that's pretty vague and says nothing for how it's doing now.

It doesn't help that much of the PS4's launch lineup in Japan is ports of things that have launched on PS3 months ago. Same day Yakuza: Ishinn, and MGS: GZ should prevent it from completely cratering, but I think a lot of people on GAF (amongst other places) are overestimating what DW8XL, BF4, COD:G, and FFXIV will do for the platform.

The lackluster, port-filled PS4 launch in other countries didn't stop it from selling well.  Can't see it not doing well in Japan either, even with the shift in gaming habits.  Even the Wii U seems to have finally found some footing.

If you have someone on your list already you can simply beat their lap times in races by a second more and get the achievement easy.

Which should be possible if that's the only thing you're missing. Because Jesus Christ I hit a wall in RC in like the 25-30% range.

is there any actual data for this ?

It's going to be interesting to see how the PS4 does here.  It's pretty much for the core gamers only, but most of the Japanese core gamers I know are really pissed about Sony launching here last.

What exactly happened in Japan to cause massive shift towards mobile(playing outside) gaming?I mean,PS2 software sold great and PS2 certainly required TV and some quiet space.

I almost like Japan was considering home console gaming as necessary evil...that got ditched at first opportunity

Well, you certainly have lots of people with time to kill on trains every day, but from my time over there (lived in a city where everyone drives to work/school or takes the bus to a select few places) I think there's also just a preference for mobile in general-- a lot of people don't have PCs and do all their web/Email/BBS stuff on their phones, for example.   PCs are more expensive over there but it's not by a large amount like it used to be.  Plus the shift to mobile gaming on phones and tablets is more a worldwide thing at this point, anyway.

I'm really disappointed. After IF taking over from NISA I had seriously hoped this would change. It's always nice to have more Vita games, but censorship is not acceptable. Ecchi is the whole POINT of this type of games, if you start cutting into it then you deprive the product of what the customer seeks. People sure aren't gonna be happy when buying part of a game for full price. As far as I know, Senran Kagura isn't being censored in any way, so legal concerns seem rather fishy. Like others, I'd really want to know what is being removed and why : opacity on this will damage your growing seller-consumer relationship.

from what i understand from where i got the pic,the art starts out sane and then become more and more "kinky" as you level up the card,so really they don't need to hire anybody to censor the art, they just have to replace the "kinkiest" (is that a word?) state with the previous less "kinkier" one

This was a very difficult decision since we work very hard to satisfy our fans and want to bring the same content being offered in Japan. However, Western society is not as lenient as that of Japan when sexual images are involved—especially images of humanoids that appear to be younger than a socially acceptable age. The borderline of what is “acceptable” will always be extremely gray and vary from person to person, but as a responsible company working in the U.S., we had to make the difficult decision that we did. What's that Rocko Phonesex rule image? Basically photoshop that into:

REMEMBER:
1. Be fast
2. Combo everyone quickly (Frog mask helps)
3. Melee (or pref. drill) everyone

Edit: That one isn't good. This one is actually better. Neither are cut for deaths which shows actual gameplay/retries instead of the flashy ones:

I'll leave the worse one in anyway, mostly because it shows a different style.

Kinda, yeah. Combo window is wonky as hell which is why using the Frog mask helps. You really want to chain everyone on the floor/stage as quick as you can (if not that at least MOST) while using a variety of weapons (bat, pipe, A. rifle, fists, drill, cue...) and executions can prolong the combo WHILE also giving an execution bonus.

The PC version had a "glitch"/exploit where using the drill mask and drill executing nearly EVERYONE in a stage would give you easy S-ranks. Too bad they took that out because it was easy street.

Well I noticed if you use Don Juan, and you knock an enemy to the wall, executing them results in 2200 points. So I have been rolling with that for now, since most of the masks aren't very descriptive in their usage and arent that useful at all period.

Well I noticed if you use Don Juan, and you knock an enemy to the wall, executing them results in 2200 points. So I have been rolling with that for now, since most of the masks aren't very descriptive in their usage and arent that useful at all period.

The drill gives the highest execution bonus and is only available in that mask. But you have to worry about the combo windows since combos REALLY are useful in getting a higher score for the S/A+ ranks. The ranking system seems to be a score-based range. Beat a certain level at 60K and you get an A or a B+. 65K? A or A+ 70K? Definitely an A+.

At least that's what I've found from my A+ runs. I still need to finish like 2-3 more and have the achievement glitch then patch the PS3 and Vita version to merge my files together.

Getting back into Hotline Miami. I don't understand how the scoring works at all. It's frustrating.

PS sale, includes FF9 but not 7 or 8.... weird

People are going to buy FF7 at full price on PSN until the end of days so I guess Square didn't want to lose out on a few dollars.

I read about that glitch but since I am a man who has a decently sized penis, I will do it all legit.

 :-* :heartbeat Demi.

I think I'm up to like Chapter 10 or so and they start getting REALLY tough on the score for A+ there I feel.

I got the A+ trophy already. I thought it would be harder. You dont have to A+ the epilogue levels, just the initial 15 (more like 12 since some dont even give a grade).

I guess that was the hardest trophy, so the plat should come pretty quick.
