And now I own two 2000 models.  Traded up my 1000 model for a 2000 at Gamestop, since they have a power-up pro coupon that adds $50 credit to the Vita trade in value (making it $160), plus I had a $25 off coupon towards any purchase.  I didn't want to pay that $16 difference so I traded a few older games in and they ended up owing me $26 in credit.  Sometimes Gamestop ain't bad.

I know it's some stupid licensing restriction, but I find it really dumb that there's PSP restrictions on PSTV.

Is the 2000 model actually an improvement over the 1000 model (aside from the screen)? I sold my Vita a while back and I'm thinking about grabbing a 2000 model here in the future

Yup, everything else about the 2000 is better.  The screens are a matter of opinion.

I can understand there being control issues with Vita stuff, so that makes sense. There's nothing on a PSP that a Dual Shock can't directly do.

The American version of Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus is finally out this week.  I was looking forward to LIFE AND HOMETOWN all over my TV screen, but apparently they didn't add support for the PSTV -even though the Japanese version got it before the Vita TV even came out- and XSeed says that a patch will be coming sometime later on.   :-\

I find it really dumb that there's restrictions at all.  :P

But you have an option to click the analog sticks and "simulate" the front and rear touch panels and the DS4 pad is supposed to work like the touch screen.  Why put these options in if you can't use them on the games that would need them?   :lol

I can understand games that make heavy use of the touch screen/touch panel being unplayable (I.E. Gravity Rush, Tearaway), but there's no reason why they can't have everything playable, with some sort of disclaimer notice that these types of games will not work properly (or better yet, fucking PATCH THEM WITH NEW CONTROL SCHEMES LIKE YOU DID TO KILLZONE AND SLY  :punch :punch :punch)

Good deal on Muramasa Rebirth on PSN:

https://store.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/#!/en-us/games/muramasa-rebirth-complete-collection/cid=UP1024-PCSE00240_00-B000000000000854?emcid=ps-se-915&utm_medium=Paid_Search_{ps}&utm_campaign=SEN&utm_source=Google&utm_term=ps-se-915&utm_content=Brand

$19.59 w/ Plus or $27.99 w/o Plus
It includes all four Genroku Legends DLC.

If I didn't already get the game through Plus, I'd buy it.

PS Now beta and Minecraft also launched today. PS Now says my Vita wifi connection is good enough but I don't believe that.

vita tv is smaller than I expected, as is the power brick.  the thing itself is smaller than a pack of cards.

is there a simple guide to connecting to a dual shock 4 to it?

my review of the vita playstation tv:  it's dumb in gameboy micro way.  it's neat but why does it exist.

the interface on tv reminds me of the wii.  psp games on a big screen look like ps1 games.  vita games on tv look surprisingly not that bad.  wifi speed is really slow compared to my vitas.

Mostly for media-streaming. The PSP/PS1 playback was supposed to be a "trojan horse" type of deal where you can go "it plays games as well!"

Tempted to pick up the Sly Collection for $10, although I already have it on PS3...

This Senran Kagura game is pretty fun and it looks pretty damn good too.

Native res and 60 FPS.  It smokes the Koei musou games from a performance standpoint.

The physical version has this written in the art book:

Quote
Special Message from the Producer, Kenichiro Takaki:

The Senran Kagura series will continue to run non-stop.
That is the calling of a NINJA.
They run faster and jump higher than anyone.
They can easily jump over people’s expectations.

These games still have the potential to grow big and large.
Just like the girls’ chests.

Tits are life, ass is hometown.

:dead

PS Now beta and Minecraft also launched today. PS Now says my Vita wifi connection is good enough but I don't believe that.

I wish they'd let people test a game for a few minutes, to get an idea of how it might run.  Would really like to mess with this on PS4/Vita but some of the rental prices are ridiculous.

again with whining about vita tv.  in ninja gaiden you have to click the sticks and press the triggers to get the first person camera, and there are sequences that require tapping the rear touch pad.  that's all during the action.  yet wipeout, shinobido 2, etc. use touch screen for menus and aren't supported.  vita tv is such a sloppy, illconceived thing.

Yeah reading some of the producer's notes for the characters....yeah he sure loves boobs. Can't blame him and I can't get offended with how over the top the fan service is. I've just done the character arcs so far, but it is really fun. I kind of like how short those missions are. A few groups of enmies and then the far more fun boss battles. I've never been able to get into Dynasty Warriors despite enjoying it's clones like Sengoku Basara, N3(yes sorry), and other ones. I tried DW8, but I just hate running around the drab levels and the named battles are usually not very exciting. Don't really have those problems with SK. So far as a brawler I'd say it's actually good. I guess the subject matter could really turn off people, but I like tna so whatever.

Makes absolutely no sense.  I see that Sony at least updated their compatibility list and removed Shinobido 2 from it.

Speaking of NG, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus is still listed...it didn't work when I tried it last week.  Will try again and see if there's a patch or something now.

The only real negative about Shinovi Versus is that it can be a bit too easy, especially when you start leveling up.  You can play all the school missions on hard by pressing right on the level select screen, at least.  But yeah, the smaller level sizes and mission structures make it perfect for portable gaming.

I noticed when I was playing through the tutorial that they were careful to provide button presses as an alternative to any touchscreen shenanigans. "RUB YOUR CHARACTERS BOOBS TO ACTIVATE FRENZY MODE!!! (Or just press the Triangle Button, whatever!)"

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2014-10-17/yu-gi-oh-arc-v-tag-force-special-announced-for-psp/.80037
Quote
The December issue of Shueisha's V Jump magazine is announcing on Tuesday that a new Yu-Gi-Oh! game titled Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V Tag Force Special will be released this winter in Japan for the PSP. The announcement adds that the game will also be playable on the PS Vita system, and a downloadable version has been green-lit for sale.

The game will star the past five Yu-Gi-Oh! protagonists: Yūgi Mutō, Jūdai Yūki (Jaden Yuki), Yūsei Fudō, Yūma Tsukumo, and Yūya Sakaki. It will also feature the Pendulum Summoning system, as well as a collection of over seven thousand cards. This will be the first Tag Force game to feature Yūma and Yūya.

The last game in the series, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Tag Force 6, was released in Japan for the Sony PSP system in 2011.

PSP-only in 2014/15ish?
what is wrong with you konami

I haven't played the TCG IRL in years but I like the game enough to drop $40 every so often. Konami hacked up the 3DS game's localization, the PS3/360 one is basically F2P but with a $10 paywall and the PC/mobile ones are also F2P. The mobile one is tablet-only too.  :(

The prior PSP one did 122k in Japan. I'd say that's pretty solid for an annual TCG game, but I don't know Konami's expectations or budget on these things.

That one didn't get localized, which I guess says something about how they sell in the west ...

my PSP's memory card up and died so I bought a Vita 2000. I wasn't sure I'd get one but a friend of mine who lives on center with me let me try hers and I fell in love immediately. it's a fantastic piece of hardware just to hold and look at, and I'd known for a while that there were more than a handful of games I was interested in trying. So far I've played Borderlands 2, Final Fantasy X/X-2 Remaster, Luftrausers, and Dragon's Crown.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 is good stuff. I thought I wouldn't like the changes to the score and visuals but honestly they make the game feel like less of a retread and more like something new with nostalgic flavor. I definitely prefer dealing with mixed reactions to new things than playing a carbon copy of an old game ala the MGS HD collection for Vita. Before getting this I read reviews and a lot of them criticized robotic animations and other hold-overs that dated the game but I actually enjoy them, as it makes X feel like classic FF with a more modern cinematic presentation. I don't absolutely love the battle systems the way I did with VIII, but it's still a high-quality game.

Luftrausers is just potato-chip-gaming-goodness. This was the first game I bought for the Vita while I waited for Borderlands 2 to finish downloading and it consumed hours and hours of my time while I inched closer and closer to the next challenge, ship part, or miscellaneous unlock. Everything from the sound effects, visual style, and charming bits of writing count towards a very fun way to spend ten dollars and many more hours. Vlambeer won me over with Ridiculous Fishing on iOS and continue to knock my socks off with every subsequent release.

Dragon's Crown is a surprisingly addictive game. Though I once swore myself off of buying 2D sidescrolling games I decided to give this one a go because I felt like I could really sink some time into it and I was right. The game doesn't do anything new with its grindy feedback loop but it's fun enough to just mash air juggles and marvel at the gorgeous 2D art. The pre-release run up to this game made me think there would be constant, eye-roll-worthy titillation but it's thankfully limited to the odd pair of Jessica Rabbit-esque boob sway every now and then. Most of the assets I've seen so far evoke feelings of disgust/horror rather than awkward arousal/lust.

Borderlands 2 is a game I didn't care for very much on PC but I seem to love on the Vita. The thick black outlines and colorful, pastel-like costumes on the character models really pop even in the lower-fidelity visuals and it only took a short while to adjust to shooting on the Vita's rather imprecise analog sticks. The loot'n'shoot gameplay is somehow more appealing to me on-the-go and the game is easy enough to hop in and out of thanks to its very generous autosaves.

All in all I'm really pleased with my purchase and am looking at Senran Kagura, Dead or Alive 5+ and Tearaway as the next grip of games to grab. I also can't wait to be there day 1 for Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. IN MY POCKET :noah As far as the situation with my PSP's memory card, luckily it's two microSD cards in a MSProDuo adapter, and I think the adapter alone is what prevents the data from being read. Hopefully I can get it to work, otherwise I'll have said goodbye to hundreds of hours of saves across Gran Turismo, FF8, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, etc. etc. :'(

tl;dr I got a vita and I love it

It's like $40 in Japan for both packs.  Was always low-priced.  Not really that great of a game, either- it's a stupid little rhythm game with mediocre songs and somehow even more fan service than Shinovi Versus.  The highlight of the game is Grandpa Hanzo's bizarre reactions to the food he eats.

It's just not the same though without XSEED Tom telling us how the fan service wasn't really fan service because it's actually a parody of fan service. XSEED Kelly looooooves Senran Kagura, but forces me to draw my own conclusions about the context of the more questionable aspects of Senran Kagura.  :'(

I wasn't the biggest fan of Soul Sacrifice, but I think Freedom Wars looks pretty dope (and it looks like the story will be manageable if you play solo, which is sweet for me)

Dis gonna get localized?

Maybe? I wouldn't be surprised if it gets a console port that spurs Bandai to localize it. Even if it stays Vita-only, SAO seems to have done well for itself. They'll just give it a janky localization then.

Electronic Symphony has one of the best licensed soundtracks ever. Worth picking up just for that, if you're into electronic music. The gameplay is more of the same, though it looks damn nice on the Vita's screen.

Wasn't ES originally intended to be a Daft Punk themed Lumines?

Freedom Wars is really good.  Was expecting a generic Monster Hunter clone, but it doesn't really feel that way.  The controls are more akin to a regular action game and you get a 'thorn' on your arm that can be used as a grappling hook a la Bionic Commando and Lost Planet.  You can use it to zip around walls/ceilings, latch onto enemies, or pull them towards you/tip them over.  Definitely has more of an action game feel to it and the production values are pretty high for the Vita.  Good graphics, solid frame rate, and fully-voiced dialogue.  Haven't gotten to the online yet, but the game offers PvP in addition to PvE, making it stand out from other similar titles on the portables.  Color me impressed.

So how does Freedom Wars feel as a single player game? Does it feel like an actual full single player story or is it like MH where "yeah this is a co-op game"? I mean does it like have an actual plot, characters, and missions that feel like something that would be fun on your own?

Based on what I've played of the game, it does have an actual single player story and characters that you interact with, but the focus is clearly on the multiplayer.  The story is also pretty nonsensical, which I guess is par for the course.  You're basically on lockdown by big brother in a dystopian future setting and have to undertake missions, to earn credits, which you then use to reduce your 1 million year life sentence and get back little bits of freedom.

Initially you're confined to a cell and can't even lay down to go to sleep without getting fined.  After you hit the second tier-level status, you'll get upgraded and can leave the cell, buy rights like actual real sleep, etc.  It's nonsense stuff but some of the restrictions are annoying.  Like you can't run for more than five seconds (outside of missions) without getting fined until you pay 200 credits to bypass this.  Ditto with talking to the opposite sex, although you get fined and then the story keeps going.  Weird restrictions to have to unlock, but when you get to this part of the game, you'll have enough credits to buy access to all this anyway.

One thing I like about this game, compared to other MH-style games, is how much smoother the game play feels and faster the pacing is.  I also like that you can take two weapons in battle.  No need to lock yourself to a specific weapon type...you can bring both a gun and a sword into battle, plus sub-weapons like grenades.  The missions I've had so far have been taking out giant monster-like mechas that are holding humans inside them.  You have to destroy the mecha and carry the humans to an escape pod.  I'm not one for having to carry shit back and forth, but fortunately you have a robot companion that you can issue commands to, including carrying the people back for you.

Complaints are some of the translation stuff (it's missing!) and that the camera could be better.

Definitely interested in Freedom Wars if it plays as similar as Soul Sacrifice.

I've been quite impressed with it too (well, what I've played of it so far)

Either my 32GB card or my Vita's memory card reader died last night. The Vita won't turn on with the MC inserted and hot swapping during sleep mode does nothing. With the MC inserted, trying to reformat it on the Vita errors out. Using Safe Mode it tells me no Memory Card is inserted after a few minutes.

I'm probably going to suck it up and buy a 64GB one ...
