Anyone who thinks it's as bad as Batman & Robin, Ghost Rider, Catwoman, Daredevil, Wolverine, X-Men 3, or Scott Pilgrim doesn't know what they're talking about.

GL fans will faint from 90% of what they put on screen. General public will wonder where the dick and fart jokes are.

$52 million on opening weekend, which puts it below Thor and X-Men: First Class [$65 million and $55 million, respectively].

Avengers is after Cap.

He basically means that something that will cost as much as the Avengers will make it the last superhero film in a while.

Thank god.

I figure Avengers' budget would be higher because that'd mean multiple high profile "I'm the star!" actors and not just one.

Let's not get optimistic about comic book movies dying.  When Catwoman, The Punisher, and Elektra bombed, studios reacted by saying "Yes, Ghostrider sounds like a great idea!"

I'm already dreading The Flash (Summer 2013) starring Boring Allen in another Geoff Johns-fueled continuity-porn plot

I honestly am not sure how I'd dress up most of DC Comics' B-listers for general moviegoers. Iron Man and even Thor have some semi-plausible hooks, but all The Flash is is a guy who vibrates really fast (so he captures the lucrative female market amirite)

The avengers is gonna make bank. And it's gonna be good.

It's not about people being tired of comic book movies, but rather that they are getting a bit tired of shitty looking movies. If Green Lantern looked awesome, it would at least reach Thor.

But when you look like shit, and you're based on a B level comic book character....

I don't know why DC keeps beating around the bush when the best movie idea ever is staring them right in the face.

Superheroes is a bona fide genre now, and won't die off any time soon. How many flopped rom-coms have there been? Spy thrillers? Disaster movies? They all still keep getting made...why not superhero movies? The IP is not limited to Marvel and DC, needless to say. And btw, apart from the Avengers, we have a new Batman and a new Superman still to come - either of those hit big and it's off to the races again.

Great argument for filming a bunch of them at once - if Avengers hits big, they'll probably film 2 and 3 back to back to lock in their costs.

Thor does not have a semi-plausible hook!

I think a problem is trying to place different characters into an existing formula.  All these movies just blur together.  It's most noticeable in Thor when the love interest, Natalie Portman , played by Natalie Portman, goes from zero to bang me almost instantly.  Granted, the actor playing Thor is handsome and tall and buff and

Green Lantern should just be space cop.  Take Colors and just paint it green.

-Guy gets powers
-Guy deals with powers
-Guy falls in love with a woman
-Guy defeats villain

That's basically every superhero movie.

well yeah, but it's also practically every action or comedy ever made also:

-Guy gets into odd situation
-Guy deals with it
-Guy falls in love with a woman
-Guy defeats villain

Wow, I actually agree with Booger on something, although I do think Superman is a viable film property.

Superman 2 is still good.

3 is not, sorry Wrath.

Of course it's still a viable film property - it's one of the most recognizable brands on the planet. You could wear a Superman t-shirt in Alaska and the eskimos would know what it meant. How they keep fucking it up is beyond me.

I can't imagine why. It's the weakest of the three superhero movies released so far and neither of those were really lighting up the charts all that much either. And Green Lantern cost MORE than Thor and X-Men.

It says it right there in the article - no more Harry Potter for WB to feast off every year. They need some franchises. It may turn out to be throwing bad money after good but at least people know there is a thing called Green Lantern now. They won't have to spend quite the same amount on marketing just to stop people saying 'Green Hornet?' now.

Mark Waid's Wally West would be awesome on the big screen but I still think that a good movie can be done with any flash.
