Let us talk about : 3D TV / Monitor

yes, i know this is highly bent.

During the big earthquake my PC monitor decided to take a trip from it's comfy desk to the floor and in the process managed to destroy it's self. RIP 24 inch $800 monitor :/

Anyways, i had started looking for a replacement and with a PC upgrade pending at the year end it seems i could buy in at the 3D end and at least upgrade my desktop to a compliant monitor (it's a Q6600 ... should be okay for WoW etc if i bump the GPU to something i can use in a later machine, right?) and i could *gasp* stick my PS3 into it for some 3D spills. So i was starting to look at the Acer 27 inch 3D 1.4 Hdmi set up - which , as it turns out, isn't available in Japan.

THEN it strikes me to look at a TV as an alternative - seems that a 40 inch 3D tv can be picked up at a fairly reasonable price - hell, so can 50 inches etc but i need something that's going to be reasonable (32-40 is probably about right).

Does anyone have any hot tips? What to avoid ? What to go for? Seems the Panasonics have the best reputation and the Bravias seem to have issues with Nvidia and X360 (??!).

I await any instructionating the 'bore collective can give :D

This is just my experience but I've always found TVs to be utterly horrible PC monitors.

Although keep in mind that I am the worst kind of image quality nazi.

You can't possibly be thinking about doing work on a TV from 4 feet away or whatever. Please, stop the madness. The only sane option is both (like moi). 3D monitor AND TV.

I knew I was doing something backward.

I gave up the 360's connection to a 42" Bravia in the living room, and bought a ¥23,000 20" Toshiba HDTV for the bedroom, which is where I'm gaming 80% of the time now.

OTOH whenever I play on the Bravia, it's finally giving me an excuse to turn on my PS3, which is getting a lot more mileage now.  :lol

Get thee to a man cave!

All part of the slow Dad sidelining process. After we're done spurting, all that really remains is to keep cashing our paychecks, with periodic requests to open jam jars and such.

I have a man... alcove, I guess. I didn't want a separate room, but finally caved and made a walk-in closet into a small office for myself. This freakin' 24" iMac takes up most of the space. I'll take a photo after I've cleaned it. But it's tiny, not like your Bruce-Wayne-style Batcave.
