Lol, black?

I do not think it is a hick car at all. I have one already but its body is pretty beat and its been rusting in the backyard for 3years.

This one has very worn original paint but the interior is mint, only 77k, 7k on the 350ci crate engine and 2k on the new racing cheeseburger. $4300 for it from some punk kid.

No accidents, no rust, 3 owners, been treated very well. The kid works at a detail shop so the whole thing is great. It does need new paint though.

Also, in ny, does a 1988 vehicle require a full inspection or does it get a basic classic one? He said they dont test emissions but i think they do if it is newer than 1986. It has no cats

I thought pretty much any state has no emission testing for anything over 25 years old, which would put yours up for testing.  My solution?  Do you know if the exhaust is welded or attached with flanges?  if it's just attached with flanges, I'd just buy a cheap catback system from a junkyard and throw it on (for an 88 monte carlo it's probably 100 or 200 bucks at most) and then put catless system back on after.  That's what I did with my cars.

DMV site says that cars older than 1996 need only a visible check to confirm presence of stuff like cats. It seems to imply that after 25 years even that mild check is no longer necessary and they just check brakes, tires, headlights etc.

I'm going to try to use it as a sticking point for negotiation but I know two different guys who will "see" cats for me. Not that worried about it.

Dipshit didn't do some of the stuff he was supposed to do before the sale so I am still waiting on the whole thing.

what kind of stuff did he say he was going to do?

is that 350 crate an LF9?  Isn't the LF9 a diesel?

This weekend I'm gonna yank out my L81 and start the rebuild on it :omg

Half of the exhaust is missing. Needs straight pipe in the middle. I got him to take $600 off the price and ill do it myself.

John barrett 350 crate engine with 7k miles
New transmission rated to 800 horsepower with 2k miles.
Body with original paint, 77k miles
Interior is mint and original
1 full set of drag racing rims, one full set of normal street rims

Included all paperwork, from original 1988 bill of sale to oil changes to modifications large and small.

$3700

Body needs paint but has no damage. I should have snapped an interior and engine bay shot, thats more impressive, but it started raining.

I already called the shop he was gonna have do the exhaust, they are gonna do it for me for $175, same price they gave him. So that should be done next week. Then I will have to buy 1 tire so I can take the slicks off, get the car inspected and no more fuss.

Not in a huge hurry for the paint, really.

One hell of a purchase, man. Once you get that painted and the exhaust taken care of, the panties will start flying in your direction as you drive by.

or you can just drive by mupepe in any car.

So I took the car to the shop that the seller recommended to get the exhaust finished off. It cost $265 with tax, took a few days, no big deal. They call me today and tell me it is ready. I can't get there until late. They say that is ok, the gas station part of their business is open until 11pm and the attendant can take payment and give me my keys.

I go at 10:30. I pay up and get my keys. Exhaust sounds great. There is a weird little metal pin, like a staple but narrower and longer teeth, sitting in the channel for the gear selector. The top of the gear selector springs free. This was not the case before.

So I go to put it in reverse. It won't budge. I don't know if this is because the cheeseburger is seized up or because the gear handle is broken (you have to press a button in to move it) and that mechanism is not connecting. I had to grab it with both hands and pull to get it to go into gear, but it flew past reverse and into Drive. I think I might have heard a metallic ping under the car but the engine was running so it is hard to say. I gave another hard push to get it back into park, called my wife to come back and pick me up, and came home.

So I guess I have to go there as soon as they open tomorrow, before work. What should I do? I've never had a shop screw my car up before. How could they think I'd just come pick that up and think nothing of it? It makes me fearful that they will try to screw me on this one. What should I do?

I am going on vacation on Sunday. I do not want to take possession of the car unless my problem is fixed at no cost. If the guy tries to give me a hard time, and I go on my trip, I'd imagine he'd just have it towed at my expense.

They are most likely to try to fuck you and fuck you hard. Just be firm. They make their money from women and men with no spine/car knowledge. Just don't back down. Don't threaten either. If they turn into pricks walk out and consider legal counsel to see where you stand. A phone call might just put enough fear in them.  Or maybe they'll be cool and fix it.

Painting it white?? Did you get recommendations for a paint shop? Because a cheap paint job wont last 2 years.

Yes recommendation, and it's only an estimate. I'm open to your recommendations on the long island area. Its not a Maaco $800 paint shop. They are doing my father in laws land rover for $2400. Bumpers and doors off etc

Took me a few months to find tires that fit the aftermarket rims, and then get the fake inspection. So no lol

I want to have it looking good for spring and summer so I'm diving in now. I want to get the old original rims from my other monte restored so they can be put on this car.
