...because the last Zelda game I completed was Wind Waker way back when, and I'm in the mood for some more now.

Anyway, got the GC version running on Dolphin at 3x the resolution and it don't look half bad. I mean, for a last gen game at least. Gives most Wii titles a run for their money.

Just got up to the bit where you turn into a wolf for the first time. Though everything leading up to it must of been the longest amount of time spent tutorialising I've ever seen in a game.

Gonna play some more. Controls fine with the 360 controller.

The nightmarish 5 hour tutorial is what's kept me from ever restarting this game. Got up to the last full dungeon and couldn't quite figure out where to hookshot so I hung it up. Had somewhere near 60 hours playtime and hardly did any sidequests. :o

No since there are plenty of games that people over here love and slobber over that I can't stand. Demon's Souls being a random one off the top of my head. There are also games I like that everybody hates over here or on GAF that I quite like ala GTA 4. The difference is I don't go on and on about it. I state my opinion and then move on.

Outside of vocal, message board mouth-breathers, it didn't really get much hate.

That's probably true. I remember lots of gaf hating on it back in the day which probably skewed my perception of how it was received.

The biggest fucking revisionist history argument in gaming is that people hate the latest Zelda game until a new Zelda comes out as if all Zelda fans have one opinion or that people aren't open enough to change their opinions. I loved Wind Waker and TP upon release and still do.

I stopped at the first lightbugthing hunt.  No regrets.  Super boring.  Super stiff.  Super ugly with bad music to boot.  As far as lycophanian zeldas go,  It was still better than Okami.

I think I'm nearly done with the forest temple. I beat up a fat baboon and got his boomerang. Rescued a bunch of monkeys. Still a couple more to go, tho.

I feel like the game's finally just started and I'm finally done with most of the tutorial crap. It feels good, I've missed Zelda dungeons.

This is doing more to pump me up for Skyward Sword than any of the E3 demos or previews.

It loojed horrible on hdtv, unplayable for me

play it on de emulator, it looks pretty

The light bug quests were pretty lame but they got better as the game went on, and ended before the second half of the game started.

The controls were fine and even the graphics were pretty good, the only obvious exception being field geometry and textures. But the rest of the game was very pretty.

ugh, i've played every mainline zelda game up to wind waker and for some reason, twilight princess never appealed to me. some of the brief impressions from some of the hardest to please borers are tempting me. zelda is the only good thing nintendo has going for it outside of the core mario games.

personally i was dissapointed because it felt like they said "everyone sure loves ocarina! lets take that game, make a few tweaks, and release it again!"  with each new zelda since OoT i was hoping that really drop all the old trappings (specifically the items, puzzles, and enemies they kept reusing) and make something that felt fresh.  after the unambitious TP i realized that nintendo never intends to do this so i bailed on the series.

playing oot on the 3ds, its the small things that reveal how they didn't fully grasp 3D yet.  You have completely barren and empty field, but if you bomb a random spot by a tree a hole will open up and you'll get a heart piece.  uh, ok.

twilight princess is the fourth 3D zelda and their craft kept improving. not to undermine the impressiveness of oot for 1998; directly compared today (or 2006, whatever), twilight princess is better.  skyward sword already seems to be fixing the more minor problems of twilight princess.  and hopefully they use the ds games as a model for what not to do.

also, twilight princess is double the length of any other 3D zelda game

let's be real here. the same shit is in TP and TP's world is just as barren if not more. The only thing TP does better than OoT are dungeons and even that's arguable because I really only feel 3 (arbiter's grounds, snowpeak, temple of the sky) out of TP's dungeons are equal to or better to OoT's dungeons. Sidequests, exploration, rewards, difficulty, everything else is better in OoT.

And even better in Majora's Mask.

I actually started replaying Twilight Princess a few days ago. I played the GC version when it first came out, now I'm trying the Wii version. I fucking hate the HUD on the right side though. It's far too big. GC version was my favorite game in the series, though... with Majoras Mask being close behind it.

Do you know what exploration even means?

An overworld is not the only means of exploration. Exploration is...just that: exploration without a hand hovering over you telling you what to do and being rewarded for it. Go to Lon Lon Ranch and you get a horse. You're not pointed in that direction, but you go anyways. The Biggoran Sword is an optional sword given only for doing a sidequest. There are multiple secret passageways that lead to Fairy caves where you gain new magic and abilities. You can practically do any of the dungeons as Adult Link out of order. Wanna do the Spirit Temple first? Go ahead! This is without mentioning that you have two time periods to explore. By setting things in motion in the past, you can do things in the future, like use peapods to find new secrets locations.

This is like saying Final Fantasy VI has no exploration, after all, the overworld is a barren wasteland, but that's irrelevant.

TP in comparison is far more barren as there's considerably less interesting thing to do in it. The only major secret I can think of in TP is that multi-floor dungeon and that dungeon sucks.

there is an intended order, but you can do some dungeons of order (not all of them, without glitches).  there will be places to shoot with an arrow before you have the bow and things like that.  there's also no reason to do them out of order, and the game tells you what to do through cryptic half-messages.

I like the Wii version because it is widescreen and pointer aiming (plus aiming and moving) worked great.  Gamecube had better camera control and sword mapped on a button, and there are other slight differences like the way item selection worked, but the Wii version was better where it mattered.

I still don't get why the Gamecube version wasn't widescreen

Skyward Sword is going to be way better with sword combat if it is like Wii Sports Resort.  It's not a digital action mapped to a waggle, except for the special attack where you shake both the nunchuck and wii remote to do a flip attack.

My problem with the sword controls were that sustaining a combo required literal hand waggling for about 3 seconds.  In effect the feedback slashes provided didn't match up.  Felt wrong.

In oot, you need the bow from forest temple. Then you can do either fire or water, but i think you need them both to be done before moving on. Then you can do either spirit or shadow.

I liked the game even though the pacing was a bit wack.  Really low at the start, good in the middle, too fast at the end (the dungeons seemed to just come back to back with nothing between).
