Balding-Bore: Anyone try going shampoo free?
« on: July 14, 2011, 02:56:06 PM »
http://simplemom.net/how-to-clean-your-hair-without-shampoo/
http://www.blackhairinformation.com/shampooing/how-to-clean-black-hair-without-a-shampoo/

In a recent movement, people have been going shampoo free citing that the chemicals inside shampoo can damage hair if used too much.

I was raised in a house that suggested washing of one's hair via shampoo daily even though black people should only really wash their hairs once every two weeks. I became addicted to it and now my hair is damage, I can't grow an afro and my hair is thinning.

So I decided to stop using shampoo and...my hair hasn't been this thick in months. It's actually GROWING for a change.

Anyone else try this?

I started balding at 22, and have just enough hair left now to be mistaken for a shorter Brian Posehn.  Either start using rogaine or give up, those are your options.

Yeah you're cute though

I noticed on Saturday that I'm developing a receding hairline now.  If I pull my hair back it looks like the shape of Vegeta's hairline :(

Bald :rock

Shaving it constantly does become a chore, though. Nowadays, I get lazy and let a day or two go by before I shave it down again.

Start taking finaisteride.  It will at least keep what you currently have for a long time and possibly restore some of what you've lost.  Also, you would more likely find it easier to take 1 pill/day than apply rogaine constantly or do any of the other regimes.

My hairline isn't receeding but it doesn't grow even. This isn't a problem usually when my hair is cut a decent length, but as it gets longer you can see the line looking fucked up in a couple places. Pisses me off

Oh, my grandma on my mom's side has a head full of hair so I don't have anything to worry about. Suck it Himu

I'm losing hair and every male relative on my mother's side has a thick head of hair, including my dead grandfather (her father).

I don't think it is quite as simple as looking at your mother's father and determining how your hair will turn out.

I'm 30 and still have most of my hair but it has receded a little bit at the temples as you can see. At this point, I don't give a fuck though.

Well of course they'd say that. Precious dolla holla hollas to be had with you having hair you need to cut properly. If you shave it, you'd never need a hairdresser or stylist again.

I blame the Scandinavians for receding temples.

I'll probably go bald one day.  Unfortunately, I was told by a hairdresser my head shape would not look good bald.

That would be the case, but the advice was given by my partner of the time.  I'm sure she would have happily shaved it off if possible to save some work on all those freebie haircuts.

meh, you'll be fine. I think everybody just gets to an age where nobody gives a fuck about receding hairlines. Pretty much every guy gets it to some degree. I notice it on my friends now that they're 30 or nearing it, but it doesn't look necessarily bad or anything. I do know a guy that has a bald patch in the back, so his looks pretty bad. But I don't really like him, so maybe if he was cool, it wouldn't look so stupid, and I'm just nitpickin him because he's a tool.

I actually did try not using shampoo and washing only with water for a month back in college. My hair reached to the middle of my back at the time. This friend of mine with short hair talked me into it, since he never washed his and his looked great (shiny, springy, clean-looking...). After a while, your hair apparently stops producing excess oil, so you are just washing the dirt and dust out of it.

It didn't work that well for me 'cause I just had such a mound of hair but it did reach this point of basically not getting any oilier. If I'd stuck with it a bit longer it would probably have got to the point where i never had to wash it. But it got too disgusting and I gave up. Now I just keep it short all the time and never think about it.

I'm 29 and my hairline hasn't started receding ... I don't think? Actually I'm not sure what it's supposed to look like so I can't tell  :lol

Anyway I figure by the time I do start going bald, if it happens, there'll probably be some magic biotech/regenerative-medicine way to reverse it if I care enough to bother.
