Playing through mass effect again

Whoever was the lead designer of the secondary planet quests needs to be shot.  Worst secondary quests ever.  Game is still pretty cool though I guess.  Never played the second one

Yeah, all the secondary missions are horse crap, just skip all of them. The only one I did on my last playthrough was Bringing Down the Sky, and that was only because I felt compelled to play it since I took the time to download it. Mass Effect 2 is a lot better in this regard; the secondary missions are a bit more varied than "drive to some pre-fab building, shoot some guys, the end".

Mass Effect 1 is still pretty great, but, yeah, the secondary planets are worthless.

Dunno if I could go back to the first one after playing ME2 easily but I remember it being a fuckin' cool game. The second one can be had for $20 or less at this point, pick it up once yr done with the replay.

Mass Effect 1 with a much better combat system (something like Valkyria Chronicles or VATS even) and 2's sidequests would be amazing... the music is so good though, best thing about the game.

I found the missions themselves OK, but systematically driving over the whole surface of those worlds to find everything got pretty old by the end.

Play ME2 instead, so much better in this regard (as well as several others).

Noveria was great, the whole climb to the reactor was a section of the game that, for whatever reason, just really stuck with me.

I can't wait to hear what Clint Mansell does with Mass Effect 3.

I'd rather they stuck with Jack Wall and Sam Hulick.

They did amazing work on the first two games, no question, but I'm also consistently blown away by what Clint Mansell puts out.

I literally know absolutely nothing about ME2 other than its a sequel and you can continue your save game from the first.  Does it have more legit planets to explore, like the Citadel or ANY of KotOR's planets?  Better side quests?  And does the combat change up at all?

The only RPG elements I care about is the "leveling up" of you and your crew with the skill points.  I couldn't care less about the XP that you gain or the terrible shitty items you can link to your weapons and armor.

Yeah, all the bazillion weapons, armour, weapon attachments and armour attachments are gone in ME2.  I found the ME1 micro-managing for each team member pretty tedious.

In ME2 I actually mix up my team members as a result.  In ME1 I didn't because I'd have to stuff around with equipment on someone I haven't even used for the last 20 hours.

I find the scanning minigame in ME2 pretty good (once I found out scanning every planet is a waste of time and you just do it when you need some resources).

If you ask me, it's the other way around... ME1 is much more than the sum of its parts. But while 2 is much more polished, it lacks the 'heart' of the first game and plays it much more safe.

I found ME2 had a lot more humour in it, especially if you play a Renegade.  Hamlet featuring an all-Elcor cast.

Well yeah, if you compare 1 to 2 thats the case. 1 also had much better music.
