i gave a spin to the new wii play motion,i think i might be the only borean that actualy play these kind of games, the motion control dream is over :fbm

well it's a collection of 12 waggle minigames,i played each one for like 5 minutes at best

Cone Zone - your mii has a giant ice cream cone and ice cream scoops falls from the sky and you have to balance them..... tip the wiimote left to make the mii go left and viceversa... boring! next!

Veggie Guardin - it's whack a mole, you aim by moving the wiimote and hit by swinging down, feels a lot satysfing but sometimes you end up swinging when you didn't want to do so and end up hitting something you shouldn't have hit, swinging with your arm instead of the wrist reduce the problem

Skip Skimmer - you pick a stone, you throw it by waggling and then you watch it bounce... the more it bounces the higher your score,it's basicaly wii sport resort frisbee if you dumbed it down even more, apparently there is another mode where you hit target or something but i don't think it would help much

Pose Mii Plus - your selected mii take a bunch of poses and then you have to twist him around so he fits in the right hole before time runs out and he crashes, sometimes the wiimote need to be vertical, sometimes horizontal, sometimes you need to point at the screen, sometimes you need to point away from the screen,it's okay

Trigger Twist - it's a shooting gallery but get this,in what might have be the dumbest idea ever, the target appears all over you and you need to waggle to move your visual, more often than not you end up shooting at thing while the wiimote is pointing outside of the screen, there is one shooting gallery with ufo,one with ninja and one with i don't remember,oh and sometimes the duck from duck hunt appear

Jump Park - your mii bounces around a 2D scenario and you can change is bouncing orientation by moving the wiimote, there are a bunch of gems around and you collect them... could be worse

Teeter Targets - oh actualy i like this one a lot and it might actualy be the only decent minigame in the collection, you hold the wiimote sideway and then you move the wiimote in a wheel fashion to control a pinball-like platform, your objective is to have a ball on the top of the pinball platform to hit several targets, there are several stage and a mode where you have an infinite number of platform and try to balance the ball so that you can get it as high as possible

Spooky Search - and this one is probably the most original, ghost have escaped from your TV so you need to search them with the wiimote, you point the wiimote away from your screen and the wiimote starts to beep, when it beeps the loudest it means you found a ghost at which point you have to catch it by pressing B at which point you need to bring it back to the TV by pointing at the TV again, meanwhile a bunch of mii suggest where to look "it's above you! to your left!" it's pretty funny when one of the mii tells you that it's "BEHIND YOU!" :lol

Wind Runner - your mii is equipped with an umbrella and he runs inside a wind gallery, press A to keep the umbrella open and point to left or right to steer, swings up to jump, laaaaaaaaame

Treasure Twirl - your mii is now a scuba diver and he has to rescue a sunken treasure, you make your mii go down by twirling the wiimote in one sense and go up by twirling the wiimote in the opposite sense,it's quite standard but the controls make you feel like one of those tool using monkey you see in nature documentary

Flutter Fly - a bunch of balloons float in the sky and you control it by waggling a leaf near them, the direction you are keeping the wiimote while waggling decide the direction the balloon takes... otherwise it kinda plays like bubble ghost (seriously is there a borean that know of such an obscure game?)

Star Shuttle - your mii is controlling a space shuttle which you redirect by moving your wiimote, different button in your wiimote act as different thruster,i guess later on there is stuff to dodge? i didn't see much of this

Even though GC/Wii emulation can make some games look pretty good, it's mostly useless for actual gameplay since their controllers are so weird and the controls can't be properly emulated on PC compatible gamepads.

I haven't turned on my WII in more than 2 years.  The last time I played a WII game was Super Mario Bros at Best Buy.  Pretty good but not good enough for me to buy a copy.

Bubble Ghost is obscure?

Huh. I'm some sort of video game hipster and I didn't even know.

On topic, my Wii still rests inside a box in the basement because I don't know which one it is in. Too lazy to look for it. Same with my Ps3. I want to muster the energy to go box dungeon exploring, but every time something seems to come up. It really is time for nextgen to arrive.

i swear one of those days i'm rolling another character in monster hunter 3 and taking ever willing borean with me

anyway i was able to play the first 5 stage of the new rhythm tengoku,it seems to me that it's more picky with it's timing but it's less picky with the rating which i guess means that it's easier to get gold medal but harder to get perfect hearts, other than that it's identic to the previous releases right to the menu's

the games i played

1-1
spoiler (click to show/hide)
a monkey throw golf balls and you hit them at rhythm, sometimes a baboon throw a fast one to mix things up,nothing much to add
[close]

1-2
spoiler (click to show/hide)
robot stands in an assembly line and you have to screw their little head at time with music, seems to me that it comes a little too close to the re-fuel minigame of rhythm tengoku ds,plus you have to press A+B and then release, why not just A considering the game has only 1 input?
[close]

1-3
spoiler (click to show/hide)
two fat guys jump at rhythm on a trampoline while going all "OH" "UH" it feels pretty badass, the game mix it up by having you do big jumps and small jumps
[close]

1-4
spoiler (click to show/hide)
a guy is sitting on a bench with a girl while various balls come down rolling and he needs to kick them away, different balls have different rhythm to be kicked,it moves somewhat slow compared to the other games, one thing that puzzled me is that i missed only 2 balls and the game didn't give me the medal, yet i screwed up like at least 6 robot in the robot minigame and it gave me the medal
[close]

1-5
spoiler (click to show/hide)
1st remix, graphics get changed to a resort island theme
[close]

2-1
spoiler (click to show/hide)
a guy faraway throw you pellet and you have to catch them with a fork, actualy this one is hard! i screwed up a lot but the game still made me pass with an "okay"
[close]

oh and the game has still toys and infinite minigames too

Toy 1
spoiler (click to show/hide)
push A to charge a car and then release it to watch it go,if you charge too much the music goes too fast, too little and it goes too slow, apparently there is a right spot so it plays right but i'll be damned if i can find it
[close]

Infinite 1
spoiler (click to show/hide)
the actual game is just a matter of stopping a count but the premise is quite funny,a cuckoo is inside a cuckoo clock and he needs to be awake by a certain hour so he sets his alarm clock ticking, count the "tick-tock" and press A when you get to the time asked by the cuckoo,if you get it right he rubs his eyes, watch the clock and then gets out of the cuckoo clock

So I hadn't turned on my wii in like 7-8 months (Last Story, December) and my portable HDD took 3 attempts to read and was making LOUD CLICKING NOISES.  Fffffffuuuuu I think this WD drive going to die and I only bought it like 2 years ago for like $100.  Will have to backup all my Wii games again afterwards, ughghhg.  Should probably move them all to my computer for now to make things quicker.  Still sucks :(

Wait, Wii has no games.  Why do I care

nite demi :)

so i played some more...

2-2
spoiler (click to show/hide)
a cute little monkey that looks more or less like this :3 plays the tambourine, you repeat what it does, once again the monkey has a pretty strict timing
[close]

2-3
spoiler (click to show/hide)
four pigs dance at unison by making them rotate themself on a bunch of swivel chair,it's a pretty short stage and no assholish timing making this the easiest stage of remix 2
[close]

2-4
spoiler (click to show/hide)
a monkey (i'm starting to think the artist has a monkey fetish or something) stands on a clock hand and then it does the *tick* of the clock by high-fiving other monkey's close to the clock! i like this stage a lot but it's awful for your finger as it's hard to keep the timing required
[close]

2-5
spoiler (click to show/hide)
i'm not sure where they wanted to go with this remix... punk i guess?
[close]

3-1
spoiler (click to show/hide)
the stage takes place in a factory, and there are 2 blobs on the left and 2 blobs on the right, the blobs on the left makes a bunch of ball bounce at rhythm and you have to make them bounce at the same rhythm, again some of the timing required is pretty hard, there is also a small game & watch cameo
[close]

3-2
spoiler (click to show/hide)
this one is easy to explain, basicaly this + this, the speed at which you have to bounce varies but otherwise it's pretty standard
[close]

3-3
spoiler (click to show/hide)
the air badminton minigame! this was one of the first minigame shown, like the monkey clock minigame,i like it a lot but it's devastating on finger since you need to press A at a steady rhythm, relying on visual clue it's also pretty hard since the cat likes to move and your visual gets blocked by clouds
[close]

3-4
spoiler (click to show/hide)
a robot punches a sandbag but he's all weak so you need to pump him some muscles in time with his punches, sometimes the game ask a quick "one-two" but it's so quick that you have to press for the one well before he finish saying "two" which is really annoying
[close]

3-5
spoiler (click to show/hide)
remix 3 has a cook theme and even the first song of the game even though it's not that great
[close]

4-1
spoiler (click to show/hide)
a wrestler is getting interviewed and he has to replies to question and poses in time with the music, the music is quite catchy but i wish i could understand what the interviewer ask considering it sound like a bad imitation of the zerg rush "KEKEKEKEKEKEKE" (also almost as annoying)
[close]

4-2
spoiler (click to show/hide)
you control a pair of hands and you have to either catch candy by pressing A+B or swat bugs by pressing only A,quite straightforward
[close]

4-3
spoiler (click to show/hide)
a bunch of creature that looks like the spawn of seamonkeys and the cookie monster swims happily while leaving colorfull figures, you need to swim in rhythm with them, sometimes they'll do small dashes to mix it up but other than that this one is pretty straightforward too
[close]

4-4
spoiler (click to show/hide)
it's the samurai minigame, the graphic might have changed but it pretty much work like it did in the original tengoku, the only difference is that sometimes you get attacked by a whole swarm at which point you have to press A+B instead of only A
[close]

4-5
spoiler (click to show/hide)
japanese theme,not much else
[close]

Toy 2
spoiler (click to show/hide)
you send message through a cellphone and then a bunch of japanese text happens....? maybe someone with better moon language skills than mine can explain this one?
[close]

Infinite 2
spoiler (click to show/hide)
it's munchy monk! only this time instead of being feeded he's the one feeding! still you only get handed 2 kinds of food, one is A,the other is A+B so no special timing required here,a nice cameo is that you can see the frogs from rhythm tengoku ds in the background
[close]

so what do i think so far... from the video i had a worse idea of the game but i'm actualy having lot of fun with the game, still the challenge seems a little off... some levels seems impossible to perfect and some you get them perfect on your first try... i don't think they will also have a space for a 4th rhythm tengoku game considering you see them sometimes reusing idea's and stuff...

Wow, so uh, their reaction to the DS game having ridiculously strict timing with poor indicators was to make the Wii version have EVEN STRICTER TIMING with even POORER INDICATORS

This 2-4 monkey clock is bullshit.  In fact, everything in set 2 besides the spinning pigs has terrible indicators.

I had to use the coffee dude to pass 2-4 and the 2 remix because it had so much clock monkey.  The problem with the clock monkey is the song has like NO BEAT and you have to make it with your monkey slaps but then you miss one and you lose any beat at all and it's such a pain to get going again.

Set 3 was mainly better, though remix 3 is kicking my ass because the transitions are kind of sudden and the boxer dude gives you very little warning with the quick ONE TWO.  Boxer dude is really the only hard one of the set.

This game reminds me that one of my main issues with the DS game was the balance was ALL OVER THE PLACE instead of being like a NORMAL FREAKING GAME where each set gets slightly harder.  It's like they didn't play test the DS game or the Wii game at all.  Really, really annoying.

Honestly, game is ok but it just makes me want to turn on my GBA and play the superior version that doesn't require godlike skills and has better mini-games and music.

okay... i think of myself as a decent rhythm tengoku player but for goddamn sake,i can't finish the final mix,it's impossible,it goes so goddamn fast and there are so many transition that you are bound to make 3-4 mistake, and then those 3-4 mistake nets you the scribbles,it wouldn't be so stupidly frustating if the stage wasn't 4 minute long and if the hardest part wasn't right in the end!

anyway i guess i should spoil the rest

5-1
spoiler (click to show/hide)
a fisherman has to hook various fish, red fish requires one timing, yellow fish requires another timing and blue fish requires another timing, the red fish are easy to hook but the blue one requires an incredibly annoying timing... did i mention this game is in the final mix?
[close]

5-2
spoiler (click to show/hide)
remember the drill sergeant from the original? he's back and he has trained a bunch of baby seals :3 it pretty much work to the old marching minigame but sometimes you have to press A+B to roll on your back
[close]

5-3
spoiler (click to show/hide)
a pitcher throw a baseball ball and you have to strike it,there are no visual clues for when the ball hits so you have to rely on rhythm,at least it's not as bad as the fishing one!
[close]

5-4
spoiler (click to show/hide)
a bunch of wingless birds march in line and you have to tap A in rhythm to keep the line, sometimes they mix it up with a jump, simple but fun
[close]

5-5
spoiler (click to show/hide)
prehistoric remix,no song
[close]

6-1
spoiler (click to show/hide)
you have a launchpad with several different kind of shuttles, the first one has a normal 1-3 count but then you have green shuttles with an instant 1-7 count and another one with a single count that goes slooooooow, could be worse
[close]

6-2
spoiler (click to show/hide)
this one is weird to describe... there are a bunch of fork shaped that keeps a balloon afloat by clashing with each other in rhythm, they either go A-A---A-A---A-A or A-A-A-A-A-A-A when they go with the second rhythm it really hurts your finger
[close]

6-3
spoiler (click to show/hide)
two little mans bounce balls that come from the sides,on the right side you get 2 balls but the left side only has 1 ball, the man constantly switches so you have something like A-A---A-A---A-----A-----A-A-A---A-A,it's not hard but it feels like it last forever
[close]

6-4
spoiler (click to show/hide)
argh! i hate this one! a girl on top of the car says something and then the two rapper with her repeat what she says, the problem is that i have no idea what kind of beat i have to follow as the thing is almost silent barring what the girl says which makes following her incredibly annoying, did i mention this is in the final mix?
[close]

6-5
spoiler (click to show/hide)
a theme park themed mix
[close]

7-1
spoiler (click to show/hide)
and this one is actualy worse than 6-4,a bunch of dancers tap their feet on the ground and it's pretty much like the marching minigame, but sometimes a female voice tell them to stop and change rhythm but the problem is that it's really hard to follow their next rhythm when they change, the funny thing is that i intentionaly screwed up the last bit since i thought i already made too many mistakes and the game still made me pass... did i mention this game is in the final mix? actualy i think this game is the reason why i can't pass the final mix since if there is a bit that i always screw up it's the one where the mix jump to this game
[close]

7-2
spoiler (click to show/hide)
oh this one is awesome,a bunch of shrimp march alltogether to a quite upbeat music where a little kid counts number, sometimes the kid switch to letter so the shrimp have to jump back instead
[close]

7-3
spoiler (click to show/hide)
a bunch of glasses wielding girls hold a bunch of books which they flip in rhythm with their song, depending on the strophe they will flip their book with a different rhythm, when they say "don't mind" you have to press A+B to open the book which usualy shows some character from the older rhythm tengoku
[close]

7-4
spoiler (click to show/hide)
it's karate house, when they throw you a lightbulb the next one is a string that you have to hit by pressing A+B,i guess the song is pretty boss!
[close]

7-5
spoiler (click to show/hide)
i'm not really sure what they were going for here in this remix...
[close]

7-4 marks the last game which means that you have in total 28 minigames, the remaining 3 mix contain repeat of older minigames like the 2 previous rhythm tengoku

remix 8 has
spoiler (click to show/hide)
4-4 another samurai stage
3-1 the 2 blobs stage only now the stage has a japan setting
3-2 and it's pretty much the same
1-4 but with a farm theme instead of the school one
[close]

remix 9 has
spoiler (click to show/hide)
6-4 but now the rappers have silly hairdo
7-3 and it's pretty much the same
1-1 but now there is a female golfer instead of a male one and the baboon has a silly hairdo
1-2 but you have to do it in the dark
[close]

remix 10
spoiler (click to show/hide)
3-4 but now flashes from camera block your visual
4-3 but now the creatures sometimes make a double dash
4-2 it's pretty much the same
7-4 yes it's a repeat of karate house AGAIN
[close]

if bebpo is having problem now with the monkey clock minigame i see a dark future ahead of him...
though after playing the remaining game i do think he's right... the first two were cool but this one most of the time just kinda comes off as kinda frustating to play

anyway some other stuff i unlocked

Toy 3
spoiler (click to show/hide)
either 4,8 or 16 spring shaped creature bounce on a cymbal, pressing A+B close the cymbal and let the first 3,7,15 creature bounce on it,if you don't press it the last creature bounce on it,playing for a while with 4 creatures net you the blue bird song, playing on 8 the music of the onion minigame from the original
[close]

Toy 4
spoiler (click to show/hide)
actualy this is a 2P minigame so i'm not sure why they put it in the toy section, two players control two robot boxer, the first player attack by inputting a sequence and then the second player tries to dodge by repeating the same sequence
[close]

Infinite 3
spoiler (click to show/hide)
this game has 8-bit visuals which are kind of a waste if you ask me,a cherub is armed with a bow and zooms at high speed at the bottom of the screen,he needs to hit a bomb on the top with an arrow,it starts slow enough but it gets quick enough to cause an headache... blergh!
[close]

i also dabbled a bit with the 2 player mode... only 8 minigame are playable and they are identic to their single player counterpart, the only difference is that the 2 player play at the same time... why they couldn't add multiplayer to every game instead of 8? it really seems like a throwaway addition

anyway for the curious the multiplayer minigame are 2-1,2-2,4-1,4-3,5-2,6-1,7-1,7-4
getting gold on the multiplayer games unlock multiplayer toys... these are

Multiplayer 1
spoiler (click to show/hide)
a maniquin is going to get hit on the head but he can block the strike with his hands, one player control his left hand and the other his right hand so both player need to press at the same time to block
[close]

Multiplayer 2
spoiler (click to show/hide)
the two players have to make some Mochi by hitting the rice cake,if a single player hits the cake twice in a single row,he breaks it... other than that there isn't any rhythm involved just a lot of button mashing, what the heck?
[close]

Multiplayer 3
spoiler (click to show/hide)
two martial artist bounce a ball around, the first player control the martial artist on the left and the second the martial artist on the right, when the ball bounce on center both player have to press A+B to set the ball ablaze
[close]

Multiplayer 4
spoiler (click to show/hide)
both players are inside a pirate ship and have to press A at the same time to row the boat, sometimes the boat need to steer so one of the player has to sit out and let the other player steer
[close]

Multiplayer 5
spoiler (click to show/hide)
this one is easy,it's 6-3 only both man are controlled by players instead of a single one... for some weird reason while playing you can see some japanese scribble on the background i wonder what they mean

The problem is that if there's one poorly designed mini-game or even 1 poorly designed section of a mini-game it will come back and screw you over in the remix at the end of the stage.

Set 2 - Monkey Clock
Set 3 - Quick ONETWO section on boxer

Set 4 was nice because there wasn't a single bullshit section in the entire set so the remix was enjoyable.  Although even that remix loses points because they take the microscopic swimming, which was fine on its own with a rhythmic beat going on in the BGM, and put it in sections where THE MUSIC DIES OUT AND YOU HAVE NOTHING TO GO BY.  Like I don't get what they're thinking on some of these, it's just bad design.

Rhythm Tengoku is fun when it's, you know, fun to play.  When it's fun mixed with a ton of frustration all the time...that's not fun, and it misses the point.

With Warioware, they started off good (Warioware), got better (Twisted - zomg), and then started making mistakes (DS), and then never bothered fixing any of them (Wii)
RT seems to be going down the same path.  It's time for this team to make a new series.

maybe if Xenoblade is truly, honest to god, 10-rated JRPG goodness, I will buy a cheap wii to hack and pirate it.  could probably get the system for the price of an import these days.

and by "JRPG goodness" I don't mean by lowered current gen standards.  Then again, I'm not sure I could like another JRPG.  Lost Odyssey was basically reskinned, evolved FFX and I didn't like it, yet I can replay FFX over and over.

Isn't Xenoblade basically FFXII-2? Meaning GOD TIER jRPG?

Xenoblade looks nothing like FF12 from what I've seen.

It's like FFXII except better in almost every way.

XII has better textures though.

out of 50 stages i have 38 medals, that means i'm good enough to get the equivalent of an A in 75% of the game but i'm not good enough to finish the final stage

what the fuck game? what the fuck?

anyway the last infinite game you unlock is pretty cool, actualy it should have been one of the minigame you play instead of being buried as a secret optional

Infinite 4
spoiler (click to show/hide)
a crow and a vulture pair together, the vulture raps and the crow beatbox after each of his strophe, sometimes the vulture start to scream at which point the crow needs to slap him back
[close]

at 35 medals there is a very cool reward,i'm putting all this stuff in spoiler because i don't know how spoiler retentive is bebpo but i think bebpo should read this one

spoiler (click to show/hide)
the 35 medal prize are minigames from the original rhythm tengoku! :lol talk about the game making you want to play the original! the first one is the lion clap one and the second one (unlocked at 38 medals) is the ghost one, there are 2 other games at 41 medals and 44 medals but i'd be lying if i didn't say that i'm running out of stage where getting a medal isn't a pain in the ass

Uh, because Takahashi played FFXII and wanted to make an rpg like that and so he did?

Big open fields, monster hunts, lots of questing, mix of MMO and turn-based battle system like FFXII, story handled in bits and pieces like FFXII along the exploration of the world.

The only difference is FFXII is medieval fantasy and Xenoblade is sci-fi fantasy.  Otherwise they're the same type of jrpg and Xenoblade's world to explore is about 1.5x the size of all of FFXII.  More land, more unique locations, more npcs, more monsters, more loot.  Oh and Xenoblade has visible armor sets and tons of loot and requires more strategy in party-making since every character is 100% unique in battle skills.  Xenoblade also benefits from its creator not having a mental breakdown and leaving halfway through the project, so the game is consistent from start to finish with no real drops in storytelling, locations, or gameplay.

Does Xenoblade feature:

- A story
- A main character
- A "job system" (or lack thereof)
- Actual unique characters to compliment the already main character

i FINALY finished the final mix and you know what's the kicker? there is nothing for finishing the final mix,no extended credit,no extra that gets unlocked, not even a message or anything, nothing! >:(

oh and somehow i ended up getting all the 44 medals so i can now spoil all of the medal reward

spoiler (click to show/hide)
the other 2 minigame from classic rhythm tengoku are the calligraphy minigame and the monkey tap one... quite weird choice there... i'm kinda sad that they didn't pick bunny hop :-\

well at 44 medals and with no apparent reward for getting more i don't see many reason to play this anymore... it would be cool if i could get perfect heart as i wanted but since there is all that bullshit with the perfect chance and perfect chance won't appear at 100% rate until i get all 50 medals the game can go fuck itself

what bebpo says in regarding to some minigame it's true but i still find the game tons of fun and there are a lot of kickass minigames, and besides with enough practice you can jump over any bullshit (i know for a fact that after a while a lot of the harder stage feel easier) it's a little sad that it's so short but oh well.....

so xenoblade hits in 4 weeks? maybe with enough luck it will leak earlier :teehee

Cruncheon owns two wiis, bought two 3ds, probably has a drawer somewhere in the home with (gba/sp/sp+/micro )s and (ds/dsl/dsi/dsixl s) intermingled.  He's such a poser and is in fact -NOT- too cool for school.

edit:  Wii talk will persist if only to hit our distinguished mentally-challenged zelda conversation quota for the months ahead.

yes?

it's been a long time since they had a new peripheral to sell, and the Wii U add-on won't be out until next year.

youre joking right? Of course there isnt a wireless nunchuk. This is Nintendo.

edit: there actually IS a wireless nunchuk, but it's third party. Naturally.
