Ok Ballotelli is a loon, but the Galaxy fans and US commentators are just butthurt since he is "disrespecting" them. Boohoo.

This makes me think of this amazing penalty.

This player is now under investigation for "being disrespectful".

Also oldy but goldie

I don't get what the deal is about. Deal with it losers.

Well Uruguay showed that they are top dog in S.A. during the World Cup and now here. Also you seem to forget how in the opening stages during the WC everybody was referring to it in terms as the great South American success.

How often you see a top game with this kind of score? Some good stuff too.

Nice to see Ronaldinho still having fire left.

No respek knuckles for Messi until he can accomplish something on the international stage.

Until then, he's no better than overhyped EPL players like Lampard, Henry, C. Ronaldo, who always came up short when playing for country.

Yeah, that's pretty lolwut.

Meanwhile, Cesc Fabregas tells Arsenal fans not to worry, because they've got Wilshere and Ramsey.  Which is code for "Nasri's out the door too, you know."  Which is all probably a moot point given the annual question marks on the defensive end.

It's a fact that Messi has performed at a substantially lower level whenever he plays for Argentina.  Fact 2, international competitons have always carried more weight than club ball.

All Messi has shown so far is that he's great with superstar teammates.  I love watching the little guy but there's no denying that he's fallen short on the world stage like the EPL "superstars" that I love to rag on.  Given his age and immense potential, I won't call him overrated just yet but he's gotta do much better for Argentina.  Argentina is talented enough for him to carry them further and it's not like he's the first player to have been consistently double and triple teamed on the international level.

Henry ... who always came up short when playing for country

... you mean World Cup and Euro cup winner Theirry Henry? Also a member of the Barca team that won -every- trophey they could win in the 2009/2010 season?

France's top international goal scorer of all time? A man of the match performer in a Euro cup final?

THAT Henry?

UR Smoking some good blunts there.

He wasn't the main reason why France won the World Cup.  Dude didn't even play in the Finals!

You make it sound like he was the man on France but everyone knows it was Zidane.  How many did that he score in 2010 without Zidane controlling the attack?

3 goals in 06 was not bad but it is a huge drop from his performance at club level during that time.

You make it sound like I'm bringing up a preposterous idea but many people have observed for years that Henry is the not quite the same dominating player on the World stage unlike when he's in the EPL.

your Fact 2 statement is a load of bollocks! Whose FACT is this?!

World soccer has been on the decline for years and there's a huge difference between club football and international football in terms of tactics, play style etc etc.

Are you really denying that the World Cup has always been the most prestigious tournament?  WTF do people talk about when discussing Pele and Maradona?  Who even remembers how many league titles they won? Even Zidane in the modern era, earned his lofty status largely through what he did at the World Cup.

If international ball no longer matters, then why is England so upset about its "Golden Generation"?  Geurrard, Lampard, Beckham, etc. should still be considered legends, right, since they accomplished so much in club football?

For sure, the quality of football is higher at the top professional levels but that does not mean club football is more prestigious than international football.

Quote

this makes zero sense - so no one is a super star unless they "do it" on a world stage? What about reverse cases like Milan Baros? He's an immense international player but he was a total and utter scrub at club level. What about world class highly decorated players like Giggs who are by birth in a poor international team (though Giggs did qualify to be in the England team he was pursuaded at a young age to play for Wales (also qualified to play for)).

That's not what I mean.  A player needs to be great at club and at international to be considered a Superstar.  I don't know why you're getting so upset over this.  Basically the same criticisms were made of Frank Lampard and Messi defenders, including yourself, had no problems with it.  If international performance doesn't matter that much, why aren't we putting Lampard on the same level as Messi as one of the greatest of all time?

Quote
I don't know what else you can ask. It seems like you need him to single handedly win the world cup for him to gain the reputation he already rightly holds :)

Score some goals?  I don't know how the top scorer in the world scoring 0 goals in 5 games (2010) and 0 again in Copa America can be classified as anything other than underacheiving.  Even fatass Ronaldo was able to score 3 in his last World Cup.

I'm just trying to be fair.  If Lampard was subject to the same criticisms, why not Messi?

I think you're making too much of what I'm really saying.  All I'm saying is that it's too early to put Messi up there alongside Pele and Maradona.  Messi's got to earn it and so far he hasn't.

Shouldn't standards be even higher for Messi then?  Lampard was destroyed for his World Cup performances.  Messi suffered some slight criticisms but his rep has been mostly left unscathed.
