I think a lot of the problem is systemic- I don't think having catch-all threads for all music, movie, tv, random talk etc threads helps spur discussion. I know for a fact that I never bother going in those threads because they're stupidly large and if I want to talk about a specific album or whatever I don't find them helpful. And even if they are good, it concentrates all of that discussion into one thread so it seems like the board is slower. Whatever, just my opinion.

I do and don't agree. I feel like the difference will be a lot of threads with few or no posts. the Random threads are like logged chat rooms.

at least on the gaming and movie side, I'm ok with Babu Bhatt'ing this place up and spreading topics to multiple threads.

It has been brought up before, but I don't understand why some are afraid of "few or no posts." It's a small forum and that's how it's supposed to be, unless you're worried about perception. Any given topic is more likely to generate more replies in a dedicated thread, plus any uninteresting thread that gets few to no replies is more likely to get ignored in the logging thread. Of course, one would argue that no one HAS to stick to the blogging thread, or any other catch-all thread, but people are less motivated to do so when they're around.

It's just an opinion, and it's certainly not what's holding me back from being more active, but some of my favorite moments in this place would probably be tucked away had these threads existed years ago.
