Don't worry, all the technolooters will dump them shortly, and HP should have all those retail returns back in stock as well.

I don't see how Amazon could have made this Kindle app more awkward to use. Maybe if it randomly shocked you while you're reading.

thanks to our own Dr Feelbad, I was able to grab one from bestbuy.com.  unfortunately all I could get was the free shipping, so I have no idea as to when it will actually show up.

this is the perfect pricepoint because all i wanted was the ability to read stolen archival copies of comic books and pdfs in a format better than a computer screen.

Best Buy is going to have them in store today. They've decided not to send them all back to HP after all.

Installed Preware and did all the performance boosting patches, this thing really flies now.  The only one I am not sure I am keeping is a touch sensitivity patch, it requires a bit more precision than I am used to.  It's easy to install/remove all this stuff, btw, you do it right from the Preware app.

HP has sold hundreds of times more Touchpads in the past couple of days than they than did in the other month and half since it's release. :lol

Haven't got an email or anything from HP, which kind of bugs me, but looking at order status it looks like it was approved and everything. It it probably going to be a long Monday for the folks at HP.

Still not getting my hopes up 100% til I hear back from HP. Kinda surprised how much I ended up wanting one...I doubt a good tablet will be at this magic price point for a while, but there is a ton of demand for something like this at a sub-$200 price. Will be fun to analyze once all the dust settles.

My girlfriend and I waited in front of Best Buy for 3 hours and we were able to get two 32 GB TouchPads. I'm having problems downloading the software update for it and and loading web pages though. I'm guessing the systems are just being hammered or something? I dunno. It's a pretty cool little device though!

about as good as it was on the first ipad - that is to say, slow

but it handles larger files better than the first ipad, and it has dropbox/box.net/google integration for transfers

Scored one from Amazon. I spent a few hours trying to get one from hp's site last night so this morning it became a personal issue. I can finally feel better. This is good for me though. I don't get online much at home and when I feel like it even the laptop seems like too much work.  So this is great for a cheap tablet. Woot

haha, i installed "uberkernel" which has some built-in tweaks and lets you overclock to 1.5ghz (using another app called Govnah)

it's a stable kernel, has little to no effect on battery life (before HP shit the bed they had planned to release a white 4G Touchpad with a 1.5ghz proc, probably just overclocking the stock TP proc) and you can remove it easily, but i don't know why you would want to, this fucking thing screams now

I spent Friday morning running around town trying to grab a couple of these for me and the sis. It was pretty frustrating, stopping by stores that had just opened, only to be told they were sold out, after seeing those particular locations having them in stock online. Dirty hoarding employees!  :maf

I'll just have to save my pennies and buy a current/non-discontinued tablet, but it's going to be hard to swallow dropping $500+ on one when I'll always know these were out there so cheap.

HP should have more stock soon.  I would bet that later this week it will be pretty easy to get one.  I think the sudden announcement and on a weekend is what made this the clusterfuck it is.

I dunno, man. If they get any more in, it'll be me and my rural internet Vs. the deal-crazy masses F5'ing...that's why I went to some physical locations instead of trying to snag them online.

Hope you're right though. It would be great if they managed to have enough to go around, but I'm not too optimistic.

Please don't look at much my home is worth  :'(

Also, seems like I might not be getting mine afterall.  OnSale apparently sold way too many.  They only had 4000 in stock and ran out in about 30 minutes so I'm not sure if I'm going to covered.  God I hope so.  Either that or hurry up and let me know so I can start searching again aholes.

Might be time to jump in. :D

They're doing an older, lamer version of android no? Current honeycomb is hard as it's full source hasn't been released but I'd read the next version (Ice Cream Sandwich) will be fully open source out of the gate.

Meanwhile, I'm actually loving webOS, just hesitant to buy any apps that won't be used when I eventually upgrade, whenever that may be.

Probably only app I'm considering is the comic reader one at 2 dollars, but it won't let me get past entering in my CC info at the moment.

Did read a pdf of one of GRRM Ice and Fire novellas yesterday and after rinally wrestling the pdf reader to the ground it wasn't a bad experience.

They said they'll switch to ICS if it's released before they finished. Which it probably will be since after some research it appears those guys are just a bunch of teens with no experience cooking ROMs.  :-\

Honeycomb source not being released still bugs the hell out of me. Most "evil" decision Google's made in a while.

After you update to 3.02, do this to get it running at top speed, it's easy:

http://forums.precentral.net/hp-touchpad/293028-new-touchpad-heres-your-get-started-guide.html

ComicShelf HD is the only .cbr/.cbz reader, not perfect but an update is coming

Typewriter Beta - rich text editor

QuickOffice is read-only right now but an editing update is coming

pReader Native (available from Preware) for ebooks

the only paid app on that list is ComicShelf HD, and it's only $2

Start it up. Spinning circle for half an hour on hp terms and conditions. Reboot

Start it up. Hp terms load up in 5 seconds. Log into palm profile. Spinning circle for twenty minutes. Reboot

Repeat once more. Device crashes

Start it up. Hp terms load in 5 seconds. Palm profile login takes 5 seconds. Select pre 2 as prior device. Spinning circle for twenty minutes. Reboot

Start it up. Get up to the pre 2 import. Instead of halting at a quarter the bar goes up tp 5/6ths at a steady pace before coming to another complete halt. Reboot? Can i use tis fucking thing or not?!?!

Oh and it is a coin flp whether i will need to relogin to my wifi network between attempts. Or whether the power button will turn it on without alao holding the home button for 15 seconds. Ive had this for 12 hours and i still cant fucking use it.

I've got 3 different orders in motion for one of these things for my sis, they're all from places that don't have stock, but seem to think they'll be getting some in shortly. From the sounds of it though, Canada won't be getting any of the 2nd rumoured batch except for an allotment to help HP.ca get through more of their pre-orders.

that's absolutely shitty.  i only had issues with the download.  of all the times to get a defective unit...

could you try to make a new account then just associate your existing pre account with the device after you've booted it up? i don't have mine with me, so I can't tell you if you can add another pre account to the one already on the device.

edit: after missing out on some which were released at midnight, my gf called every Bestbuy in Manhattan.  No more are coming to the island apparently.

The Employee News basically said that the shipment stores are getting this week will be the last one. So if your store already got it in this week (like mine did), then oh well, shit outta luck. Stores should be getting in shipments of more of the 50% off accessories for it but that'll be it.

SORRY GUYS!

On the other hand, I laughed my ass off all morning at the lines of people coming up waiting for them. We kept telling them we didn't have any and they'd disperse like ants, only to have another line start up 10 minutes later.
