I still need to play this, but I'd buy a Persona 4 Portable and play that instead. I haven't even finished P3FES yet $:-\$ (vanilla P3 was great). I hate having a backlog of long, 50+ hour games.

This week's Famitsu has some major Persona announcements, ranging from the obvious to the totally unexpected.

First, the game everyone was expecting due to the recent teaser splash site, a remake of Persona 4. Atlus is bringing the PlayStation 2 title to PlayStation Vita as Persona 4 The Golden. This new version adds a number of new features:
•A new character named Mary
•1.5 times the voice of the PS2 version
•Wireless support for calling on others to help you when you're about to die in a dungeon.
•Other elements that fans of the original have heavily requested
•New opening anime with new song from Shouji Meguro
•New animation movies

A release is set for Spring 2012.

A bit more surprising is Persona 4 The Ultimate In Mayonaka Arena. Atlus is teaming up with Arc System Works for a 2D fighter that will be released first for arcades in Spring 2012, then for PS3 and Xbox 360 in Summer 2012.

Developed by the team behind Arc's BlazBlue fighting series, the Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena has a new story that takes place two yeas after the events of Persona 4. Characters from Persona 4 and Persona 3 will feature in the game.

Famitsu also has a few preliminary details on the next numbered entry in the Persona series, Persona 5. Basic preparations for the game's development have been completed, with the usual staff members in place. That includes Katsura Hashino as director, Shigenori Soejima as character designer, and Shouji Meguro as main composer.

ArcSys' Hokuto no Ken was grrrreat fun. lotsa crazy shit popping up everywhere and ATATATATATATATA!

Also, if this game uses some sort of jojo system for the personas like Oichi is suggesting it might, it will be worth a purchase regardless of how broken and/or dumb it is. And considering how online friendly blazblu is, this might be a fighting game that's playable with people outside of northern europe.

The design of the new girl is really odd. She doesn't fit in with everyone else imo. But anyway, it looks like they didn't butcher the entire world like they did with P3P, so I'll probably buy this whenever I get a vita.

Looks like they're using the same 2D style as BlazBlue... so nice looking sprites with limited animation. Should be good enough.

It'd be funny if this turns out to be a respectable fighter, like Melty Blood or something. Persona for Tougeki 2012! (I have no idea when this is coming out)

hopefully they go hard on that type of shading filter they used in some of their ps2 games. I think nocturne and DDS had that. not so sure about the persona games. I remember nocturne looking mighty nice at least.

A new engine is distinguished mentally-challenged. They spent all that time doing the tech demo of Catherine to get the hang of that engine and make it work for Megaten style so they could pump out P5 fairly quick afterwards.

Starting from scratch in a new engine is the WHITE ENGINE/KOJIMA ENGINE problem where now the game is going to take 3-4 years and hardly be relevant by the time it comes out.

The character models in Catherine look awesome.

He said their engine is done... they've probably been working on it for a couple years now. I think the usual designers just did Catherine as a side project while the main tech guys worked on completing their own engine. Just a guess though, I dunno lol.

It just seems like a huge waste of time to do Catherine and learn the shitty Bethesda engine and change it to not look like Oblivion and look SMT if they're not going to use it again.

it's a persona 4 fighting game,i think aegis is more there since she's a fan favorite (hasn't she got like 2 spinoff?) that said aren't they worried that now everybody will know the shocking truth of who's the villain?

you know removing rise (since she doesn't fight) there are 7 characters + aegis that makes 8,there would be two character remaining,counting one as villain guy that makes 9 which is 1 less that character select screen show

unless they decide to use the new vita port character?
