I cant be the only one that hates the idea of a "Season Pass"

What was the first game to do this? Just seems so dirty. Especially at some of the price points we see- we're basically paying well before anyone can say if it'll be good or not.

never did and still doesn't bother me. it's optional so if you dont want it then you don't have to buy it.

When was Hellgate ever relevant ???

Doubly relevant!

1) It was the first game to offer a "season pass" for all current and future DLC.
2) It died screaming on fire and you never got your money back, did you.

depends on the game, if skyrim came with a season pass which guaranteed all the expansions for something like $30 i'd probably buy it

for the most part i hate all dlc, though

yeah, when it makes sense, like an expansion pack or an extra pinball table, but when it's just bullshit clothing items or weapon unlocks it's just such an obvious ripoff

Looking back I really wish they had offered something like that for Halo Reach. That's the kinda game where I know I want all the maps, but having the barrier of hunting the packs down in Microsoft's joke of a storefront between me and the content prevents me from buying it.

I think it does come down to who it comes from- some developers have a history of supporting their products really well- most dont. That said, the price point needs to at least make sense. the 100 dollar bundle for Age of Empires Online is kinda messed for a game that currently is about 30 dollars of content imo.

With that, I think you solved the question in your OP.

I actually love the "idea", but it's all about execution. Some businesses are just looking for that early adopter dollar (I'm sure EA's gonna angle for that market with TOR) and others are looking to provide their customers with a service that's actually worth the money they're asking.

Yeah, people go on about Origin being decent for some game or another, but to me its just another not-steam distribution service ill rarely ever use

I bought the LA Noire one. Only cost 800 points instead of 1600, which is a nice saving.

Like Raban I think it's a great idea that would work for some games (Fallout, Halo) but not others (LOLEASPORTS) and it's all down to the execution.

The problem with this one is that the price is out without any indication of the content, you don't get all the content ("the first four"), and the up front discount isn't that enticing. Plus it's likely to be multiplayer content which cuts your audience down as well.

The funny thing is this is really just drip feeding an expansion pack under a different name and you're paying up front. 10 years ago we had to wait 8-12+ months for an extra $30 of content.

It does sound similar to episodic games.  I bought all five episodes of back to the future before knowing if they would be good.

going off on a tangent, why isn't there a GOTY Edition of ME2? I want all the DLC to play before ME3, but each piece is still $10 on their stupid service.  It's not on Steam or Origin or GFWL.  It's their stupid Bioware points thing.  I don't want to use it dammit.

It would be a shame if Blizzard didn't offer this for their next MMO.

I feel like I totally fucked myself by getting ME2 on the PC through Steam, and getting the DLC through BioWare's nastiness. I feel like the next time I pull up the URL for that cheap-ass webpage with all my account information, it'll be a 404.

Why would Blizzard want to make LESS money? They know everyone will buy every expansion for their next MMO.

OTOH, I /almost/ bit on the LA Noire season pass, only to find out once I started playing the game that it's the first Rockstar game in which I have no interest.

The LA Noire pass was worth it because 2 of the cases are the best ones in the game. The last one was fucking abysmal though.
