Just embarassing- this is the kind of stuff the actual players did to TRY and get something looking like costumes they remember- you're telling me the developer of the game cant do better? Lazy lazy lazy.

They're from Capcom.

Quote
Hey there, GameSpotter true believers! My name is Chris Baker, and I'm one of the lucky few who does games stuff for Marvel. Yes, I even work on Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. For the next several weeks, I'm teaming up with our friends at Capcom to bring you an insider's perspective on how all of the alternate looks for characters were chosen in the game.

As I mentioned on Marvel.com last Friday (and if you saw that, you've read what comes next; if you didn't, enjoy the setup), one of the things I was most proud of with the release of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 in February was making the alternate color schemes for Marvel characters as "Marvel" as possible. While past Marvel fighting games by Capcom went the typical fighting-game route for alternates, simply creating different color schemes with no readily apparent rhyme or reason (other than looking cool), we managed to provide comic-related reasoning for pretty much every alternate in MVC3. And we're doing it bigger and better with Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom. As we count down the days until UMVC3 launches in November, Marvel.com, Capcom Unity, and GameSpot are teaming up on Tuesdays and Fridays to show you the entire lineup of "fall fashions" for each of the 50 total playable characters. That's six total looks per fighter--not just four like last time--which are all available as soon as you boot up the game. Outside of actually downloading the playable characters of Shuma-Gorath and Jill Valentine, no downloadable content is required (though there might just be some of that on the way as well).

I don't think it's that big of a deal since they're not making you buy it as DLC, except of course you have to buy UMvC3 to get these hot new palette swaps.

There will be new costumes, you'll just have to buy them as DLC. 8)

I still like pallet swaps for fighting games. Sometimes I just want to use Balrog with a purple suit. But now that everything is 3D, I guess I wouldn't mind seeing Capcom try character customization like you see in VF/SC/Tekken.

This is laughable. Even the fan edits for Vanilla SF4 character models, as hideous as most of them were, modified the god damned models. smh capcom.

I still remember how proud they felt for removing Cap's helmet wings for one of his alts in Vanilla; "we had to alter the character model. Getting the approval wasn't easy peasy, but we did it. Feels good man."

The colors are available in pretty much all modes, but can’t be seen by people who haven’t purchased the DLC.  (Also, we weren’t able to save the color palettes in replay files, so please be aware of that.)

Holy shit $3 for new colors  :lol

:lol oh god this generation
Oh Capcom!  :-\

more like "oh people who KEEP BUYING THIS SHIT!!!"

i refuse to believe more than a few thousand people will actually buy this

Let's say one costume pack is like 4 bucks.

Marvel vs Capcom 3 has sold well over 1 million copies at this point. So let's assume that 5000 people buy ONE 4 dollar costume pack.

That's 20,000 dollars.

For a costume.

It is practically free money. And that's why they keep doing it.

We wanted to give Viper, like, a more villainous look and chose a purple color. Purple is pretty villainous, no? second only to black (No racism intended). And as seen in the Princess and the Frog, purple can also be the color of black royalty (again, sorry), and I think it’s fair to say that a sufficiently bored and spoiled duchess could wander off and become an elite secret agent (she's not technically black, but she's into BBC if that counts). Speaking of Disney movies:

i love the myriad excuses they're coming up with to justify the white costumes

why not just come out and say "we want to give everyone a white costume, deal with it"

They've got to at least PRETEND there was some thought behind these.
