Blizzard: Efficiency of content creation.
EA Canada (FIFA Team): Wants a guaranteed hard drive to improve load times. Feels the new battleground is AI and physics over graphics, and he feels they will have dramatic improvements.
Sony Liverpool: Connectivity. The future is about how developers will link games to your friends and enable you to share your experiences. He feels this will be one of the biggest changes from a gameplay perspective.
Blizzard Again: Easier tools for user generated content/developers not as experienced with tools.
Gearbox: More RAM. Lots and lots of RAM.

Not to defend them but content creation is the main reason for overblown budgets.Everybody now expects high quality assets,high quality voice acting,motion capture and that shit is not cheap.

I was actually thinking about this yesterday on the toilet. About the early days of 3D when a plane flying over a race track was something amazing, and now it's not even an asset you would notice.

I think Blizz of course is right for saying this, but it doesn't sound exciting for me as a consumer somehow.

Thinking about it, it should actually free up time for more innovation since all the other shit is taken care of.

Question is, will Blizzard use that time or just churn out more WoW, Diablo3, SC2, Titan stuff faster?

I wish next gen developers would focus on making good video games instead of D-grade movies with shallow, run of the mill gameplay.

A console with minimal waggle, gesticulation, or other useless gimmickry.

I'll accept that I may have to accept some but as long as it isn't awkwardly shoehorned into games I want to play, that is all that I ask.

I have low expectations because this generation had a shitload of issues. Rising costs of hardware and software development mean fewer risks, meaning probably more bullshit.

Shorter dev cycles and an emphasis on making things easy for devs, i.e. Sony, MS, Nintendo sticking with the PPC core architectures and upgrading components. A continued emphasis from Sony on PS3(4)/Vita integration. Consoles to start out slim and quiet, and then get even slimmer and quieter not the fucking jet engines this gen started out with. Emphasis on the quiet, seriously hate how loud consoles are. 360 is good with game installs now, though if MS go BD next gen they'll need decent drives that aren't loud as fuck or imma be pissed. More modern, competitive multifunction operating systems if 360 has Metro UI stuff and a great media player with better codec support a browser that maintains parity with the functionality of IE on PC and media server features count me in, same goes for PS4. Control systems to be determined at launch and bundled with every system, no new systems half way through. Keep it simple and locked down. App store for stuff that isn't just games so I can actually use my console as a media center and use apps like Boxee etc on my console without hacking it.

Basically improve on what they've been doing already. This gen was/is fuckin great

Yeah I missed out on that with 360, didn't get mine till late 2009, though my launch PS3 did fry itself but Sony fixed it free of charge and kept my BC and it's been good ever since.
