X-Men. (EDIT: Beaten! Simpsons too!)
Burger Time.
Run 'n Gun. (The basketball one.)
Kinda liked the Mega Man "fighters" too.

Some absolutely horrific clone fighter from some nobody company around the MK2 era our arcade got that got prominent position initially and slowly moved to the very back (next to the PlayChoice 10 and everything else from the 1980s-early 1990s) over the course of a few months. It was hilariously bad. But once it started falling into the death zone we couldn't help finding out how far back it moved and playing a couple rounds.

I always liked when the arcades would get one of those crazy "mods" for Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, etc. And they'd tape up all these print outs about the amazing features of the RAINBOW EDITION or VERSION 9.23! They seemed so exotic and secret back in the day. Why does OUR Street Fighter have RED FIREBALLS?!? The magazines say nothing! (Then when they started putting that stuff into the games and you didn't know what shit was real. :lol Thanks for ruining that internet!)

Probably played the majority of these:
http://hardcoregaming101.net/finalfightclones/finalfightclones.htm
http://hardcoregaming101.net/konamibeatemups/konamibeatemups.htm

Always liked Knights of the Round for some reason, even on SNES.

Just as an aside, how many Americans still have relevant arcades around them that aren't in major cities?

Outside of something like Chuck E. Cheese (do they still have machines in them?  :lol) I can't think of any in my general area outside of this one hybrid/import game shop that has five or six machines in it that I doubt pay for themselves. Maybe I don't know where they are anymore but everything I knew of either chains like Aladdin's Castle or local stuff like Pinball Pete's all seemed to die off years ago. (I know the East Lansing one technically still exists but I thought they were living on stuff like Smash Bros. meet-ups and Wii gatherings.)

I grew up during the arcade boom days, and out near the (at-the-time) edge of the city there was this roller rink that started adding arcade machines. They had like 5, then 15, then at one point they had like 60+ arcade machines and they had expanded to where their arcade part was basically the same size as the roller rink and everything. Now it's been gutted for a snack bar and laser tag. I think they still have some machines in the little cubby the original five games were in. Doubt they're stuff like Karate Champ though.

Not really news of course, just thinking about these games made me think of the places we used to game and hang out in and was wondering if arcades were surviving anywhere in Rick Perry's America.

I have a friend who loved the fuck out of Aliens v. Predator.

He never beat it until we played it through MAME on the Xbox years later though. :lol

dang someone already posted bank panic?

anyway

it looks so good, the music is so awesome, you get to pick up mook and throw them, you pilot giant robots and use those giant robots to STOMP them, and then that robot explode! and you get to pick the piece's of the giant robot as weapon!

one of chun-li special moves consist into summoning a streetlight which makes a bunch of cyclist appear and trample the enemy, that's all you need to know

there is an emulator made for running certain 3D games (most notably it runs rival school and tech romance) but seriously this is the only reason why you should get it

played a lot of this

When Arcade games died and online games became so popular, I realized that I was no longer the target demographic.

How so?  There's plenty of arcade and arcade-style games playable or available online.  Arcades went virtual is all.

Also forgot about Side Arms.

I waited and waited for Capcom to bring out an NES version, only to see it go to the TurboGrafx  :maf.

I had to settle for the inferior Section Z instead. :maf :maf

Based on nostalgia mostly. I used to spend 3 hours a few nights a week at the mall arcade waiting for my stepmom to finish her mall paralegal classes:

Captain America and the Avengers

TMNT Arcade

Robocop

Terminator 2 Judgement Day Pinball

This one I used to spend my lunch money on in secret at the 7-11; yelled at later for using lunch money for nickle candy and arcade games instead of lunch.

Is there an easy way to set up VPinMame? I remember going through hell to get it running, but that was years ago on another PC.

I always loved Undercover Cops, liked to have such different characters and a good ammount of moves and specials. And I still love the graphics:

Another favourite, Super Sidekick was just incredible looking back to me (not the best soccer game, but It looked so great)

And probably one of my most beloved arcade: Shadow Dancer.

First post here, hi everyone. I found this forum and I was surprised to see so many names from the old gaf so I signed for nostalgia's sake, and in hope of finding a smaller forum than neogaf (everything there is so hectic sometimes, I guess I'm getting old.)

I remember playing this game at the movie theatre with my dad. I remember him laughing hysterically at basically everything that was going on on the screen and I couldn't figure it out.

Dat music

WOOOOOOOO YEAH!

Violent Storm is the biggest Final Fight clone I've ever played, but it's pretty cool.

Knuckle Bash is kinda fun too. I'm surprised it came from Toaplan, though I'm not really familiar with any of their non-shooting games:

Ninja Baseball Bat Man is another one of my favorites. It's one of the few belt scrollers out there that can come close to level of Capcom's IMO:

My top five:

Moon Cresta: This game was in a donut shop near my home. Unlike the arcade, which was sketchy as hell, the donut shop was a nice place to be. I loved the tension of the ship docking minigame, and gaining crazy firepower afterward. It is also cool that if a stacked ship is hit, only one piece was lost. This is the first game I ever became halfway decent at.

Renegade and Golden Axe: These two hit the same notes for me, a kind of rhythm fighting game. When you've got baddies on either side of you, keeping your cool and getting the timing right will lead to keeping them at bay or even wacking them against each other. I managed it about 80% of the time. I played Renegade on a machine at a 7-11 in college. It was broken, and the timer would speed up during the final fight. I never finished it. A friend of mine was convinced it could be done, but the clock sped up proportionally to how many enemies were taken out, so even getting down to the last one meant the clock was revving way past normal rate.

Golden Axe I played at a ¥50 arcade in a supermarket in the podunk town in which I first arrived in Japan. I loved playing the dwarf. I still want to kill those little potion-stealing elves.

Battlezone: I'd never seen such convincing 3D; it felt like I was in a tank and moving across a battlefield. I almost bought a vectrex just so I could play this.

NINJA GAIDEN: OMFGAIDEN - 'nuff said.

I spent many a night at Pizza Hut begging my mom for more quarters.  In retrospect, it is a pretty bad game, but when you're a kid and it is one of the few arcade games you have seen then it becomes special.
