Pretty much.

XIII Trilogy is Japan's answer to the Mass Effect Trilogy.

I think current SE output is Kagari's Hell on Earth

Its just funny out of all the universes SE feel they needed to expand upon its one of the most vapid ones (relatively). Those assets ain't gonna fuck themselves.

Out of all the modern FF, I wouldn't mind them "exploring" XIII's. It has an interesting one by modern FF's standards. I don't want to go back to X's anymore, the two games sufficed. And while XII was an excellent game, the universe itself wasn't very memorable or worth exploring, imo. When it comes to XIII, the team wasted a lot of time during pre-production to establish the lore and universe. That was around the time they thought everything was gonna go smoothly once they go into production, but obviously that didn't happen and plans for the actual game changed.

Hmmm. I guess I'm not the best person to throw down on an opinion on the story aspect of the game since my eyes would glaze over. I got to Gran Pulse and returned the game to Blockbuster.

Final Fantasy XV won't be on Vita/3DS
by Fred Dutton
8/06/2011 @ 01:16

Square Enix has no plans to follow Dragon Quest IX's lead and move the main Final Fantasy series onto handhelds.

Final Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase told Eurogamer that fans demand top-of-the-line visuals from the core series, leaving them no choice but to restrict the franchise to high definition machines.

"If you're talking about the main Final Fantasy titles, one of the strong focuses of the series is cutting edge graphics. That's what people enjoy and that's what people associate Final Fantasy with," he insisted.

"In that sense I would like to assure our users of this top quality artistic visual achievement. To do that we have to stick with high definition consoles."

Kitase added that Square will continue to concentrate handheld development on franchise spin-offs, such as the Tactics or Crisis Core series.

"Though the main Final Fantasy franchise has always been with top definition consoles, Crisis Core, for example, has been very successful on PSP. So those smaller projects we'll consider for PSP2 or 3DS."

The last entry in the franchise's primary timeline, the much-derided Final Fantasy XIV Online, launched last year, while Final Fantasy XIII-2 arrives for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 next year.

The main Dragon Quest series found huge success when it moved from PlayStation 2 to DS last year, with the acclaimed Sentinels of the Starry Skies shifting over six million copies worldwide since launch.

Who ARE these fans? S-E has learned nothing. :lol

I have no issue with them making the games look neat but fuck, do you honestly need a hollywood budget to show off your latest anime? I prefer Atlus' approach: extremely stylish graphics and presentation that don't break the budget and consistent release schedules. In past 5 years from Atlus I have received:

Persona 3
Persona 4
Raidou 1
Raidou 2
Catherine
Trauma Center: Second Opinion
Trauma Team

And that's on CONSOLES. That's while ignoring Devil Survivor, those Trauma Center 1 and 2, Etrian Odyssey 1-3, Radient Historia, and Strange Journey.

But here's the thing, none of these games are UGLY. Being lower budget does not equate to UGLY. It also means you get to PLAY THE GAME.

In the past five years since FF13's reveal, S-E has developed these games for console:

Final Fantasy XIII
The Last Remnant
Final Fantasy XIV

That is PATHETIC. Why does this company latch on "cutting edge" shit at the expense of actually releasing games?

yeah square-enix should do like atlus and release FF10 and FF12 port on vita :teehee

that said if they are really doing a FF13-3 i hope a meteorite strikes the square-enix office's before they can carry out because that would simply be too sad :fbm

i'm just saying that himuro comparison is silly, there are more square-enix wii games than atlus game on console in general (unless they made something else that wasn't trauma center and i'm not thinking about it right now?)

i was thinking more along the lines of chocobo mysterious dungeon and final fantasy crystal bearers (which i want to remind was supposed to be the next FINAL FANTASY SAVIOR WITH TOWNS!!1! before it turned out it was horrible) actualy....

wikipedia says chocobo mysterious dungeon was developed by h.a.n.d? i have no idea who these guys are

point is atlus made a great total of 1 HD game and 2 wii games where they could happily recycle a lot of stuff from the previous one,at this point even nippon ichi and gust makes a better argument of "game released on consoles"

making a ps2 game is a lot easier than a HD game so i don't see why persona 4 should count and something like crisis core should not simply because they prefered to stick to the older ps2 instead of the new shiny psp (especialy when they decided to port those game to psp later on)

and besides both persona 3 and the first raidou are as old as final fantasy XII so i'm not sure why those count and final fantasy XII does not

a lot of these games recycle A LOT of assets which is the entire point of having a FFXIII-2 and seriously fuck that

Being a lot easier is the entire point Himuro is making.  Square Enix are overextending themselves.  They are taking on projects that they are incapable of completing in a reasonable amount of time, within a reasonable budget.  And yeah, dunno why Himu didn't include 12.  Feel free to add that one.

having smaller project is why portable exist, and big game with tons of polygons are what you do on HD console's
the truth is that if we didn't know of versus existence we would not be bitching that it's still not done

bullshit. you can have a good looking without emphasis on CUTTING EDGE (tm) graphics without putting it on portables.

You can but GOOD GRAPHICS = GOOD PROFIT

Otherwise, we gaijins will never look at some niche JRPG

Actually, no one look at JRPGs anymore.

Then explain Catherine (I know it's not a jrpg but it's a j-game which are falling in popularity) and Demon's Souls. Sure they're not as popular as Final Fantasy, but that's because they don't have the FF name brand.

I can't be the only one who thinks FF would STILL be popular if they didn't make their priority ANIME IN HD 3D but then again that's probably (likely) pure naivete on my part.

True. Time to make Dirge of Cerberus 2 as a full-on MP FPS. It's not 1987 anymore, Square, you gotta get with the times.

Catherine barely sold shit last I read in the US.

It even had TITS and ASS on the cover. TITS AND ASS.

Square Enix efforts might be lame but at least they are pouring dem next gen JRPGs.

I think Namco is a better example than Atlus, they are doing well, at least on their home land and they are not catering to westerns much.
