True story: 9/11/01

9/11 happened. We watched the events in history class. Rumors persisted the rest of the day but I didn't give a shit cuz they cancelled MARCHING BAND PRACTICE FUCK YES. So I went to mupepe's place, played some dreamcast (sonic adventure 2 and legacy of kain: soul reaver) walked home, got on the internet and complained that 9/11 would delay metal gear solid 2.

the commentators during yesterday's tennis matches reminded me.  I'm not thrilled to be so aloof because it's slightly messed up that I remembered the 9th as Dreamcast's 12th anniversary and not this.  At least no one cares about Final Fantasy 8's anniversary.

if not then, someone would start a "where were you when it happened?" thing.  Then a "When were you when Osama died?"

I'm pretty sure ff8 sold more worldwide than the dreamcast

her: "whaaaa...i'm not having sex at 6:30 with the kid up..."

me: "no, today is a very special day!"

her: "uhhhh, labor day was last weekend..."

me: "thank GOD *someone* forgot!"

I thought this was about the start of the NFL season.

Prole doesn't like sports.

i'm not against sports: i watch mma and boxing from time to time. but national televised team sports? idiotic slow-moving pageantry for toads. the nfl isn't watchable by ANYONE with a functioning cerebral cortex. seriously, try and watch an nfl game independent of whatever stupid regional tribalism you tout like it matters (you underemployed fucks) -- it's barely and sporadically engaging like the dysentery shits, at BEST. and the dumb fucking chatter from the commentators? if you can endure that shit, i never EVER want to hear you mock george lopez again, because it really *is* the most inside tribal idiot humor and observation imaginable. fuck off, nfltards!

Which is exactly why I thought it was about the start of the NFL season.  The conversation is just as apt.  I guess it would require Prole to actually have knowledge of what made today really special, however.

Sup T, how's UK looking?  Duke looked strong on that China roadtrip, always fun to get an early start to the season.

You can't mock the NFL and mention that you watch MMA in the same sentence. :lol

Careful now, Gundam.....

I'd love to get into mma but don't know when the fuck it comes on

UFC is coming to Fox and FX starting in November.

And who the fuck needs to know when MMA "comes on"?  It's the internet age, himumumu.  You look up the popular fighters, you download and watch their previous fights to get acquainted and interested in them.  Upcoming fights come on PPV every month, and so you get a bunch of friends together and split the cost of the PPV, or go to a bar to watch it.

OH MY GOD, THAT'S SO FUCKING COMPLICATED

lazy. I'm going into this with the wrestling type of thinking. You watch every week and then they have a ppv once a month. so it'd be easier for me to get acquainted just by watching every week. but then every time i try to watch ufc, they have some stupid reality show thing on and I just can't give two fucks.

plus all my friends watch wrestling because they're feggits. not interested in ufc. but I'll research if it's FOR YOU, boogz.

I remember taking a break from homeschooling, walking upstairs and noticing no lawn care noise coming from outside. I figured maybe the onslaught of lawn care folks at various people's houses were taking a break, then I turned on the TV and saw the tower burning on every single channel. I didn't finish any more school work that day

I was 17, I had spare in the morning, and was working in my uncle's tobacco field for the harvest.  I finished the work in the morning and went home to get ready for school.  When I got home my mom called and said that terrorists had crashed planes into the Twin Towers.  I turned on the TV in time to see the first tower collapse.

I then rushed to school.  The school had just recently installed TVs in every classroom, so the whole school day was spent watching CNN.

Agreed 100% with what you say about football.  I liked it as a kid because all my friends did.  Once I was old enough to think independently, I realize how fucking stupid it all is.  It's a dumb sport played by mostly dumbasses but commentators and fans analyze the shit out of everything and make it seem a lot more complicated than it really is.  Also, please STFU about how football is like going into battle.

What's worse is that during football season, NCAA is in your face just as much as the NFL.  I don't get how so many people invest so much emotion into schools that they didn't even attend!   As much as I dislike the actual game, I'm 10x more annoyed by the whole culture of football.  People can't even give it a break during the off season because the're fucking sheeps that can't resist the forcefeeding from ESPN all year.

I wonder what Prole thinks about basketball.  My love for the sport has nothing to do with tribialism.  I don't have a favorite team but I hate the Lakers, my hometown team since forever.   It's the stunning athleticism and skills that entrance me.  I can watch a game as long as it's good basketball.

Even if sports weren't televised, they wouldn't show Simon and Simon reruns, unfortunately. It would just make room for more brain-dead reality TV shows and NCIS/CSI/Law & Order spinoffs.

I remember, I think I was talking to my sister on the phone when the first news hit. It was entirely unclear what had happened, so I assumed someone had mistakenly plowed a Cessna into the tower, and everyone was up in arms about nothing.  :-\ While we were talking, the second plane hit, and I began to realize that something major was going on.

Wrath2X, you said it didn't affect the rest of the world, or wasn't really a changing point for the rest of the world. I'd argue that the viewpoint is very short-sighted. With 9/11, a host of personal freedoms were curtailed in the USA and a vast amount of additional resources were dumped into the military-industrial complex. The decade of military adventuring which has ensued has had a direct affect on many places in the world, and I'm certain that this change in policy for the country with the world's largest military budget has had an indirect affect on the entire world.
