What in the fuck are they talking about? This year I played Ghost Trick, 50 hours of Super Street Fighter IV and Marvel VS Capcom 3 a piece, Tactics Ogre, Shadows of the Damned, Catherine, TWO Dynasty Warriors games, and some other shit. All of which are the antithesis to this shit they're talking about: no moe, adult oriented themes, and global appeal.

Maybe, just maybe, the writer of this article is a dude with shit and close-minded taste on games compared to my superior eclectic tastes. Because while I played all dat I'm playing shit like Alice (sucks), Enslaved, and getting ready for Saints Row the Third and Skyrim.

Article totally skipped the demographic and economic issues Japan has been getting hit with lately... I think a much lower birthrate (i.e. new people to bring into the world of gaming, to replace the adults who are moving on), plus a stagnant economy, means that Japanese companies are forced to:

-make loli moe games for the small, but extremely loyal otaku market
-tailor their games for a hugely competitive western market who only buys the same games over and over
-develop lower-budget games for the handhelds (of course, this is where the best Japanese games are lately)

One of the few things I could see that would help the Japanese market reclaim a bit of mindshare in America would be to embrace porting much more - take those mid-budget PSP games and port them at a reduced price to the PC (DD) and XBLA/PSN. I guess that's the whole "PSP Remasters" thing.

Honestly though, I would be much more worried about the American market. It's divided into the big budget 360/PS3 games and throwaway cellphone games, neither of which seem to be sustainable in the long run.

No I'm treating it like the platformer it is. You get almost every ability you're going to be using within the first hour. The rest of the game is just a remix of the same puzzles and obstacles. Gets boring. Terrible pacing. It's just average.
